I am familiar with the series (being raised by a fan of TOS) but I was never really a fan of any of the shows. I have probably watched about 2/3 of all of the shows due to having room mates that where rabid fans though. I am fairly excited for this game due to the space combat and the amount of people I expect will sign up simply due to it being a Star Trek game. To be honest though, if the upcoming Star Wars MMO had space combat I would probably get it instead.
While getting into the STO closed beta was no where near the main reason that I got a lifetime sub to CO, it certainly helped make the decision easier :)
Heaven forbid they use a common term that has been used in comics since the 50's. No, wait, they should call it some other generic term that other MMO's use! That'll work better!
I don't have a problem paying MS there $4 and change a month for my Gold membership and a monthly fee for an MMO as well. What I am dissapointed about is that my lifetime subscription won't work for the 360 version of Champions (if it ever releases) since they will be different servers. I was really looking forward to playing with PC friends while I was on my 360.

I wouldn't hold your breath waiting for a 360 version of this game. Considering that Cryptic is hiring for PS3 developers at the moment, I suspect that STO will be on the PS3 and that Champions will eventually make its way there as well.
I like the 'velvet rope' model. If done well I get exactly what I want out of a game without paying for the cruft that I don't care about. Some days I feel like the only person that doesn't bristle at the idea of micro transactions.
Considering that it is being published by Atari and created by Cryptic, the lifetime subscription doesn't scare me a lot. Atari / Infogrames has had some really hard times over the past few years but they seem to be making a slow comeback.

Of course, Hellgate was going to be amazing...
Wow. What a horrible game. It would take a total revamp of the engine to get me even vaguely interested in that piece of crap again. It was like playing Quake 2 on a Commodore Vic 20.
From what Cryptic has said though, if it has an in game effect (like a new costume piece) you can still find them in game. They are simply offering people the option to pay for it and get it immediately if folks don't want to grind for that rare drop. To me, this should make folks happy not all pissy.
Whenever I try to download the beta client even while logged into my free FP account, I am prompted to register a new account. I really hate FP.
I don't consider the idea of fighting your guild mates to level skills to be exploitable. If you want to learn Judo, you don't go running out and start attacking people at the bus stop. You get together with like minded individuals and practice on each other. Sounds perfectly reasonable to me.
Let the hive mind of Engadget get that for you.
"I'm looking for a pair of quality headphones that aren't seemingly made of glass. I'm an avid BMXer which causes me to frequently bash on any type of technology that joins me for my daily riding. I've been through the higher quality headsets in the Skullcandy line as these are supposed to be built for "abuse," which is laughable. I cant wear earbuds or canal buds, as my large ears seem to have a repelling property upon anything that sits in them. Wired or Bluetooth doesn't really matter, but I need something that can hold up to taking a few hits every now and again. I'm trying to keep 'em under $150. Thanks!"
