Having both DirecTV & Cox Cable I'd say I'm equally disssatisfied with both. Satelite still has transmision problems during thunderstorm season but has more HD channels plus the YES netowrk which I can't get in my area w/o DirecTV. They are both equally over priced with cable giving less bang for the buck.
Enfield CT. Noticed I now have ABC in HD. That's the only add'l HD station I see.
At least the American Gladiators is in HD. Kinda sorta a reality show.
I switched from Dish to DirecTV prior to having an HD TV. The main reason was that the Dish Network does not carry the YES Network & I'm a big Yankees fan. Now that I subscribe to the HD package I think it was an even better decision judging by the picture quality & the ease of use of their DVR. Plus I live in CT & to receive the full HD channel lineup from the Dish Network you need to have two dishes installed.
I don't think my dish is ugly :)
They are also having problems with the YES HD feed. For the past few days I get nothing but NBA promos on the YES HD channel though the SD YES comes in fine. The response I received from DIRECTV was: "We would like to let you know that we are working double time to fix this for you to receive the HD broadcast as soon as possible. However, at this time a date has not been set for the return of the YES HD feed."
There was someone somewhere who posted that they hooked up a Seagate Pro 750 via esata to the HR20. Can't remember who or where. In any case I tried it & it worked out great. I first tried it on the Motorola DVR that COX supplies but it wouldn't recognize the drive. I suspect the port is disabled.
Does anyone know if this will work with the Motorola DCT6412 III DVR?
Jeff: I'm interested in connecting an external hard drive as you did.
Is this difficult to do? Do you just connect it to the USB port? Is
it accessable via the HR20 menus? If not how does it work.
I like the interface & picture quality. I replaced the previous Directv HD Tivo with the HR20 & found it produces a brighter overall picture. It also appears to do a better job rendering the non HD channels than the Tivo. The only problem I've had is that it occassionaly freezes on the YES HD channel. It has some useful features such as letting you know how much space is availablr to record, is extreamly quiet, & is easy to use. I also have the Motorola DCT6412 via COX & feel the HR20 produces better overall picture quality. Though that may be the way COX transmits the signal as opposed to Directv.
Let the hive mind of Engadget get that for you.
"With all the new multitouch capable monitors coming out, which one is the best? With the release of Windows 7 I really want a touchscreen monitor for my desktop. I'm looking to get a Full HD monitor that supports multitouch and can still look great during gaming and movies. Which one has the best specs for the price?"
