The trailers are 1080p not 1080i.
Please. Reading HD Beat and expecting to find accurate technical information is like watching Reading Rainbow and expecting to find a book review of Moby Dick. Anybody who claims to be a HDTV or display expert certainly should not be reading this site to get his information.
If you're not paying for TV what do you need a DVR for? 5 channels? Seems like a waste of time and money to me. Anyway, obviously you should have an ATSC tuner already so you won't be affected by the analog cutoff.

I agree its stupid that Microsoft still has this requirement, but that doesn't change the fact that this article has a huge mistake. "the NTSC tuner will be shutoff on Feb. 17, 2009" Sorry, but that is 100% false. No one has the ability to 'shutoff' my tuner. I'm sure I will still have uses for it after 2009.
NTSC tuners will not be 'shutoff' in 2009. You can still use them for cable and satellite, just as people are doing right now. Or perhaps you didn't realize the analog cutoff only affects over-the-air broadcasts?
I knew that and I didn't mention anyone's name except HDBeat. You both are employees of the same company so you both reflect on that company's reputation.

Most readers don't pay attention to who is making each post. You're all under the same brand name so thats all people should be concerned about. Otherwise you should each have separate blogs if you want your opinions considered separately.
I wouldn't mind so much if HDBeat makes mistakes. Everyone makes mistakes. But what upsets me is that you guys are then so critical of other people who make mistakes.
HDBeat showing their ignorance once more. Battlestar Galactica has been airing in HD for a long time. So has Stargate Atlantis although only in Canada.

I seem to remember in one podcast you were criticizing Robert Heron for knowing the technical aspects of HD but not having real-world knowledge like the fact that there is already a HD-Tivo. Maybe people (hdbeat) in glass houses shouldn't be throwing stones?
The sponsored link on this site is: "Slot Machines HD quality; Glorifying the definition of winning, with clearer images and easier play."

Talk about hyprocisy.
Also since TWiT is a podcast that is just done for fun I don't expect them to be accurate in everything they discuss.

HD Beat on the other hand is a professional site where people get paid to make blogs and podcasts. This is your job so you have a higher responsibility to be accurate. The same holds true for DL.tv.
Yes that is the article I was referring to also. I haven't actually read it. :) It seems its only available in the print magazine. The majority of 720p TVs do in fact throw away half the resolution of 1080i signals. But from what other people have said about the article most of the 1080p sets passed the test. But again I haven't actually read the article so I am just going by hearsay. Also, I wonder if they were only testing video-based content. The fact that most TVs don't handle that properly is not suprising. But if they don't handle film-based 1080i properly then that is very dissapointing since it is not hard to implement at all as I said earlier.

I guess as with everything else it pays to be informed. I am in the market for a 1080p DLP and of course I am making sure it can handle these issues properly before I make my purchase.

And I apologize to you for the tone of my first post. We're just discussing frivolous entertainment here. No need to go ballistic. ;-)
Let the hive mind of Engadget get that for you.
"I'm looking for a pair of quality headphones that aren't seemingly made of glass. I'm an avid BMXer which causes me to frequently bash on any type of technology that joins me for my daily riding. I've been through the higher quality headsets in the Skullcandy line as these are supposed to be built for "abuse," which is laughable. I cant wear earbuds or canal buds, as my large ears seem to have a repelling property upon anything that sits in them. Wired or Bluetooth doesn't really matter, but I need something that can hold up to taking a few hits every now and again. I'm trying to keep 'em under $150. Thanks!"
