Depending on your surface you may not need one.
I have a glass desk, definitely need one for both optical and laser mice.
Mouse pads definitely haven't become so useless that the question warrants asking I don't think - talk to some hardcore FPS players and you'll see :P
C'mon guys, people never take names for their characters from movies, it would be silly.

No one ever even did that in vanilla WoW ... ever.

How dare a US based site discuss things going on in the US.
For shame, Engadget!
Booonejaw's readyyyyy!!!!

Wow, that is complicated. I don't have one, but just clicked this article curious why they had to write a how-to for it. I guess I see why. That's madness.
Silly Buttons!
No, but what they WILL give you is the ability to read a paragraph of text and see "the current level of service will apparently remain free, and continue to include features like Facebook, Netflix, and the ability to play games online."
True, I've left stuff on rendering overnight(s) or downloading. I guess I just didn't think it was common enough to see so many people commenting on it.
Ok, good enough, carry on - maybe they should make sure they have a stealth mode for these things so you can enjoy the pretties when you want and have it dark at night.
Let the hive mind of Engadget get that for you.
"I'm looking for a pair of quality headphones that aren't seemingly made of glass. I'm an avid BMXer which causes me to frequently bash on any type of technology that joins me for my daily riding. I've been through the higher quality headsets in the Skullcandy line as these are supposed to be built for "abuse," which is laughable. I cant wear earbuds or canal buds, as my large ears seem to have a repelling property upon anything that sits in them. Wired or Bluetooth doesn't really matter, but I need something that can hold up to taking a few hits every now and again. I'm trying to keep 'em under $150. Thanks!"
