While I didn't end up buying a Black Diamond screen, if they can get the higer gain version of it produced, I will certainly think about ditching my da lite hi power.
What's next....Netflix on the Atari 2600....Here's to watching crap resolution on the Wii....on my 120" screen
Driving PS3 sales up? PLEASE. Everyone with a half a brain knows that you an buy a Blu-ray player for 150 bucks now. Why would you spend 399 to play a Blu-Ray? Answer: They aren't. That's why the PS3 sales are path-e-tic.
I have a JVC HD-1 and it is probably one of the brightest projectors on the market (don't read the manuf specs, they are useless). People on the AVS forums will tell you that the JVC is a light cannon. I have it paired with a 120" Dlite Hi Power screen and even with the lights completely on in the room the picture is watchable. If you are looking to get just a 70" screen, you should check out the Black Diamond screen from screen innovations. There is a demo on their website. I've see it in person on a 90 or 92 inch screen and you literally can't tell the difference on the picture when the lights are completely on or off in the room. It is absolutely amazing. The only reason I didn't go with it was because I wanted a larger screen.
What would be really great is if these movies were actually in HD. Sure they meet the HD spec, but the disc formats like Blu-Ray totally blow them away on quality and sound. Many of the "HD" downloads don't even have 5.1 audio.
These movie downloads are not "HD". Call them DVD+. They are nowhere near the bitrate you get with the disc formats. And in many cases, all you get is stero sound. Apple and all of the other download services need to stop calling them HD.
None of the "HD" download services are really HD. They can say they are 1080p, but the bitrates are NOWHERE near close to what you get on the disc formats. Added to that, many of the HD downloads don't even carry anything better than stereo output. It might be convenient, but it ain't HD.
Even if you are getting 1080p, make no mistake about it, you are not getting anything close to HD with AppleTV. The bitrate is nowhere near what you get on a Blu-ray or HDVD disc. All of these movie download services need to stop calling it HD, because none of them are delivering anything close to what the disc formats are pulling.
Let the hive mind of Engadget get that for you.
"I am looking for a device that will stream sound from one source to several recipients. For example, I want to stream sound from my TV or stereo to my phone or MP3 player that has radio and Bluetooth capabilities. I have looked into radio transmitters and they seem like a decent choice, but I can't find one that uses external power (USB or from the plug) and I would want one with a transmit range of around 50 meters. Thanks!"
