Umm...seeing as how the name of this blog is EngadgetHD (note the "HD"), is it too much to ask that the post mentions whether or not high-def movies will be available? (Or is this beyond the limit of most SD cards?)
Does the study cover those who think they're watching a show on a high-def channel when in fact they're not?
The problem with looking at plasmas in an electronics store is the way they're set up: I doubt very much they're hooked up with HDMI cable (I wouldn't be surprised if some stores even used COMPOSITE cable on their sets). At any rate, whatever they do makes the plasma picture look really flat and dull (and I don't think it's just the comparison of the plasma next to the brighter LCDs).

I was all ready to buy an LCD TV a few years ago until — finally — I saw a plasma in a store that was set properly. The picture was stunning (I'm now a proud Pioneer plasma owner).

Unfortunately, I really think the stores WANT you to buy LCDs rather than plasmas. How else to explain the crappy plasma pictures on display?
My big problem with Watch Instantly is that none of the offerings seem to be in HD (at least, that's what i concluded last night after browsing through the offerings last night—I didn't see any labeled "high definition").
I'm confused about the whole firmware thing. I just bought a Sony BDP-S300 Blu-ray player. So can it be firmware-upgradeable to 1.1 or not?
Yeah, did Consumer Reports actually test the new Pioneer Kuro that you guys raved about yesterday?

And in an unrelated matter, can you guys ease up with the abbreviations are in these posts. I think many of us don't know what STBs and OCAPs are (from CableCard post).
Actually, why would this mean there have to be three high-def DVD formats? Warners could make one disc, which could be sold in both the HD-DVD section as well as the Blu-ray section.
Even with their broadcasting in 1080i, a lot of their stuff looks like crap. I guess maybe it's because they're showing a lot of old material that hasn't been remastered.

So, you had to pay the full $799 MSRP? No Best Buy discount? What about rebates?
Someone needs to be fired over this.
Let the hive mind of Engadget get that for you.
"I just moved into a new apartment and have been reading about all of the new power strips out there, especially the green ones. I was wondering if you had any suggestions about which "green "power strips are out there with decent joules ratings. And when I say green, I mean power strips that have the remotes or switches to turn off all electricity flowing to certain plugs and with at least 2 plugs that are always on. I was looking specifically at sub $50 because I will need two, but if that is not possible I could be convinced otherwise. Thanks!"
