Actually i believe that HD broadcasts are inherently demographic filter-points, anyone that has HD also likely has the disposable income for other lux items. I see HD advertizing as a perfect way to access and deliver to that premium high value audience.

Ok cool, i live in an affluent area, so i guess normal isnt mass populace america, but lots of people here have HDTV sets as 1080p monitors using the DVI ports from such cards as the NVIDIA 7600GT - really the Westinghouse digital 1080p is inexpensive and the graphics card is 69 bucks, plug-play hit the remote its all good. The biggest complaint i heard was the outrageous price of a long DVI cable.

e.g. the people that can hookup , will hookup. That part is easy.

However, not one of these people is using the PC-HDTV connection for streaming HD off the web, even though quite a few have FIOS.
They dont even seek HD video there. They do google earth and photo galleries and such. Web bandwidth just is not well suited to HD... so this same HDTV is used for home theater and such and HDnet and Discovery HD, cinemax. IPTV may well be great for postage stamp sized videos but no way would i expect HD to get much traction even with the die-hard bit-torrent crowd.

Wow. after reading all the posts in a ton of blogs, i am diasspointed. Most posters do not have a 1080 anything. Although i'm glad to see the interest, i'm sad to realize in all that talk that still just a few are walking the walk.


I have had mine for months, and have the PS2 w/Component Video cable, quite a few games play well in 1080 already, some scale, some actually render, hardly anything actually does a worthwhile surround sound. Widescreen play is definitely more fun.

On my Westy LVM 37" w3 there is ever so slight of a processing lag i think, i drive off the road a lot on my kids car cames that have a 1080 mode.

This 1080p issue though is nuts. A nice LCD is progressive anyhow, it just takes the interlaced 1080i signal as its data & builds your image anyhow, as long as you have DCDi / Faroudja in the firmware, its going to play nicely. And in my humble opinion, the Westy upscales 720p source so nicely that it feels like HD anyhow.

whatever.. i dont see any issue here, and i'm looking forward to getting this new XBOX.

I'm sure that some/several products will offer a player with driver that will do ok in any version and bit architecture, the unsigned driver situation shouldnt kill it, all this furor is just more media noisemaking, and quite frankly diminishes the value of news of this type.

What i want to know is.. how many people out there have a computer hooked up to thier HDTV monitor. I have been doing that for a year now, my Westy 37" 1080p is monitor 3 of a 5380 pixel desktop, and so far i have had no problems playing anything, and dont expect to have issues later on either.

BTW the WMV-HD codecs are really good.I have made quite a few HD 1080p shorts with it and its perfect.
And Zach is quite right... i have AMD 64 X2 running it all - dual Nvidia 7600 with dual DVI and its all good.

IMHO STFU on this driver thing.

SXRD is in my humble wary and jaded opinion, the best bang for the buck there is right now, mostly due to the absolutely seamless image it makes. Most stores kind of hide hem in the back to keep you from really seeing a side-by-side comparison. Kindo f like the wsry 37" and 40" displays that are hardly ever en ON display. I usually dont like much stuff out there, this won me over totally. Its probably the family christmas present with a Ps3 this year.

however i am watching the userbase resopnses to heat stability and how the bulb reliability is, since the iris and bulb part of it is likely to be the MBTF of the unit.

My advice is make the trip and go see one. Plasma and DLP will just not cut it next to an SXRD, for big screen at a reasonable price.

I watched both 2001 and 2010 on HDnet , and it was so good visually that i stopped everything i was doing and literally got sucked in by every frame. Thanks HDnet, IMHO stores should be using 2001 in HD to demo widescreen 1080 stuff. Mostly because the attention to detail and grand scale of the scenes is worth it.

It really comes down to this, NTSC and DVD, and DVD upscaled on a large 1080 wide screen are worse accuracy than my eyes are, and 2001 and most of HDnet stuff is as good as my eyes are, so i sat 5 feet away.
every pixel was worth it.

this is even truer in hd1080. basically old video shoot habits need to be replaced by HD habits , which means there is no longer a need for really close-up zoom-happy stuff anymore. ( i am learning this with my hd shoots, and paying a makeup artists to fix what i dont want to deal with later )
in 1080 you can easily count the stray nose hairs in a closeup. eyebags become stunningly detailed. Dirt and dust is everywhere.
This is not new, moviemakers deal with it all the time, its just the broadcast videographers & producers that need re-educating, it is a whole new world where you can actually read the sheetmusic in a zoom of a concert orchestra performer closeup, hit pause and try playing the bars yourself even, rewind and play along.

personally - i LOVE this, it is a whole new level of cool.
