Kevin, What do you think of this TV so far?
Who gets the blame when something like this happens?

I wonder if Scorcese's Director of Photography, Michael Ballhaus is aware of this? He was also the DOP on The Departed, Goodfellas, and The Age of Innocence, so Scorcese must like using him for some of his films.

Is that Darren Murph's backyard?

I have the Samsung UP5000 that just had a firmware upgrade. I love it because it plays Blu-Rays, HD DVDs and upconverts DVDs with its Reon. So I will probably not be in the market for this. Many consumers may be though.

Maybe Toshiba thinks J6P will be thinking along the lines of: "well we don't have to get $25-30 blu ray discs or buy a $400 blu ray player honey! We can get the Toshiba player to go along with our new HDTV? It's cheaper that that doggone Panasonic or Pioneer player over 'der."

Of course this all assumes that Toshiba will have hired people with actual marketing experience by the time these players come out, or we'll have HD DVD part 2.

One last thing. Count me as one of those who miss Nfinity's old avatar. While I like his current one, it's just not the same when I click on the comments section of a Blu-Ray article and don't see the blood-spattered face as comment #1 with "retard" somewhere in it.
Thanks for providing us with links to reviews of flat panel tvs engadgethd. I am in the market for a plasma or lcd and appreciate these kind of posts.
Seems I'm not the only one who got the Samsung UP5000. Purchased it in April. In fact, it sounds like Evan and I did the exact same thing. $380 for a player that was going for $1000 at Best Buy at one time. The Reon processor was the clincher for me. I can enjoy Blu-Ray HD DVD and SD DVD all in one player. Now, if Samsung could just get that May firmware out I've been hearing so much about lol.

What's really interesting to me though is that Blu-Ray winning this format war coincided with the downturn in the economy. The home market collapsed, rising food and gas prices makes it tough for a consumer to get an entirely new technology and then plop down $30-40 for a single movie at Best Buy.

I don't thing Blu-Ray is on the minds of the average consumer right now.
What a beautiful design on that Philips. Thanks for this contest!
Let the hive mind of Engadget get that for you.
"What is the best wireless surround sound speaker solution? I have a home theater where running wires is just not feasible. I have my own speakers, so I don't want a system that has speakers with integrated wireless. I've done a far amount of research and have only come across a few companies that even offer a reasonable solution: KEF, Kenwood and Rocketfish. Is there anything else out there? What do you recommend? Thank you!"
