How about "dumb" one for $400 that you plug in USB or TCP/IP(better, then you could have it in the closet) to the PS3, or other Sony Blu-ray player to drive it. So you have one XMB/remote to manage all. Make the thing daisy-chainable so you can have a few seen as one large system. Allow it to auto-generate the local database and thumbnails using cddb, imdb, amazon, etc., to get all possible information about all discs without ANY user input.

Then, give me a small USB box for the PS3 that has a coax input and a M-Card Cablecard slot and tru2way, and bring your DVR software to the US.

That is all Sony.
I too would like to watch porn in secret
Coupon not good for DTV converters capable of outputting HD signal. Government doesn't not want to help people that can/could already afford an HDTV of some sort. Get any box with your coupon, even if you just smash it with a hammer as soon as you take it out of the box, so you can at least get the handout.

Seriously though, if you want to find one that tunes the best, and deals with DTV's biggest enemy, multipath signal reflection, the best, get one with a Zenith/LG chipset. Zenith worked with the government on the ATSC standard and the 8VSB transmission method. Zenith is now owned by LG, so you are getting the Zenith chipset with any LG or Zenith branded box. You may need to do some research as to what other boxes have this chipset. At this point, other manufacturers may have just given up since the Zenith/LG was far better than the rest, so they may all use it now.

In my own tests years ago, I had two different Samsungs, took them both back. Found the Zenith after recommendations on forums, it scanned and found all the channels in my area versus just a couple with the others. The channels were much more stable as well, and the box did passthrough (if the channel was 720p, it would output that, 1080i it would output that, or you could set it to not do that). After getting a more directional UHF antenna, signal never dropped (and of course that was back when they were all broadcasting at a much lower strength)
Such a great idea, buying a first gen car from GM. How many people are going to die in this thing I wonder. You'll have first responders to an accident looking at people wondering around covered in battery acid like the gang member that just got covered in nuclear waste in robocop, all the while the garbled OnStar voice telling everyone to remain calm sparks fire and everything explodes.

"A new car built by my company leaves somewhere traveling at 60 mph. The rear differential locks up. The car crashes and burns with everyone trapped inside. Now, should we initiate a recall? Take the number of vehicles in the field, A, multiply by the probable rate of failure, B, multiply by the average out-of-court settlement, C. A times B times C equals X. If X is less than the cost of a recall, we don't do one."
Fairly standard for government stuff. Office 2007 is not allowed because of the possibility of having documents in the new file format(regardless of how you set the default save settings in group policy). Vista is not allowed because of any compatibility issues(and as we all know there really is no point to the "upgrade"), They just started getting issued XP stuff over Windows 2000 a couple of years ago as well, they use a lot of third party security stuff that is soaked pretty deep into the heart of the OS, so they are always going to be at least 5 years behind.

Maybe they'll push for more Apple stuff and either Apple or some contractor will develop the kind of far-reaching centralized management and modular security we have seen from Microsoft and Novell on the OSX platform.

The NMCI user I know just uses an XP laptop with no permissions for him, and uses his RSA key-fob to citrix login into a server that is his real workspace. That could easily be done on a mac since the laptop is essentially a thin client. Of course the "apple benefits" would be nothing if you arn't actually working in OSX.
I wonder if the mounts/screw holes are the same for everything. I have taken apart a few macbooks at work to replace screens, optical drives. I wonder if I got this I could transplant the guts into my black one at home, then sell the resulting downgraded white one on ebay/craigslist.
/b/rothers, now we can fap outside...

Not cancer, or infection, it's auto-immune(body attacking protein). Start him on interferon, and wheel his ass to Macworld...

Agreed, my iphone was useless in Amsterdam. It would be nice to pre-cache a certain area to "offline storage"(say 20 miles square) when Wifi is available and cruise around an area free of any need of data roaming. Maybe even disable the "A" in the A-GPS for an "unconnected" free (but-less accurate, and slower to lock) location.

Either that, or I personally don't see why Apple wouldn't be happy with being able to allow use of a pre-paid "guest" SIM card from a company in the country you are visiting that themselves sell the iPhone.

I didn't care much, I was on vacation. Using texting instead of the phone at 50 cents a pop to send, nothing to receive was a lot cheaper, and the place we were staying had wifi. Would have been nice to use other features though.
Let the hive mind of Engadget get that for you.
"I have a MacBook Pro and an Xbox 360 and I would like to get a 20- to 24-inch display that will support both devices. The speakers should be inbuilt, or there should be an aux out on the display to hook up external speakers. Help! Please!"
