this is like saying that because Bo Jackson (who?) was a good baseball player, it was somehow unfair that he also be a good football player. In fact, there are a billion analogies for proving how ridiculous this argument is (why I chose this one, I have no idea.)

Shirley, you can't be serious?

I rarely post on this site, because I am really only interested in Chris' thoughts, but man, how can I resist?

P.S. I almost pulled out the Bill Clinton Sax Player vs. President analogy, but despite the humor, it would have weakened my point.

I think we can rely on other companies to push the price of BR discs downward, If the studios do not willingly do it on their own.

Rentals and disc burners ought to eventually force their hand to come down. They can charge whatever they like, but... as long as blockbuster rents them to me at a reasonable price, I'll be happy.

Besides, I doubt that those will be the conditions that bring prices down.....eventually this will be an issue of volume. Assuming that the market sees enough value in this new medium..... Once the manufacturers have roped in enough early adopters and the hammer falls, production will rise, and prices will fall (because profit margins can be slimmer). Obviously this is an overly simplistic model but I think it is safe to look at it this way......Eventually Wal-Mart will realize that there are enough BD players installed to justify cutting deals for large orders, slashing the prices, forcing anyone else (small local stores too) who sells discs to do the same, making the world a cheaper place, all the while forcing more Mom and Pop shops to shut down but making sure that hard working 12 year olds stay busy all over the world.

I personally can't wait to snap up whatever Microsoft is going to launch, whatever it is they are going to launch, whenever they launch it. I, like hundreds of other people, are chomping at the bit to perhaps buy a Zune integrated WinMo7 phone. Hopefully whatever it is will be built by Motorola, further insuring another 2 years of complete and utter hardware/software HELL for me.
Did side by side comparison of Dish vs Uverse. When I asked the Uverse guy what was wrong with my picture, he put a call in and management told him that was the way that it looked.

I showed him the difference, and even the Uverse employee said "Well, I guess you really can't switch then." Sent my boxes back immediately.

Would have been great because I use them for all of my services, and it is cheaper.

If it looks better than your cable HD, the cable company has done something on the order of fraud.
I had dish network and uverse became available in my area about two months ago. First month is free, so I decided to A/B the two.

I don't want to get into specifics, but running through my 720p Panasonic plasma TV, (which was/is considered the best plasma TV by consumer reports) there is a significant difference in quality between Uverse and Dish.

I am not partial to Dish (I really don't want the dishes on my house, and I don't think their customer service is very good), but there is simply no comparison in picture quality. Seriously, there is what I would subjectively say is a 35% quality drop off.

I asked the uverse installer to tell me why there was such a drop off. He said, and I quote "I had not seen the two services compared before, do you want to cancel right now, or just use it for a month?" He was apologetic and called his boss to see if there was anything that could be causing this aside from the quality in service, but his boss said no, that there was simply a difference.

I don't even know what to say further to impress what I view as a significant objective quality difference. If anyone who is a big Uverse supporter would like to rebut these claims, please let me know. I guess there is a chance that something is wrong with my feed, but I'd like to know since Uverse is cheaper and doesn't use unsightly dishes.

I use AT&T for everything else that they provide, but I simply have to stick with Dish on their TV service.
Seriously,

Truth Teller,
You and Roger Clemens should get together for a little 'no one believes you just because you say it emphatically' pep rally for the pathetically desperate.
I own neither player, but you have provided me countless laughs watching you squirm for absolutely no good reason other than to stand up for something that you have nothing to do with, no knowledge of, and clearly no insite into.

Keep it up douche bag, you are timeless.
Truth Teller:

As a loyal HD-DVD advocate for the last year, largely due to your unceasing wisdom and commentary, I cannot help but ask, does it hurt to be exposed as such an ass?

Thanks a lot, can I bill you for my player?
Let the hive mind of Engadget get that for you.
"I'm looking for a solid state drive, around 32 to 64GB, for use in my web server. The drive will contain my web sites and the operating system, either Windows Server 2008 R2 or Ubuntu. Large storage is handled by a separate RAID array, so capacity is not an issue. Rather, I am looking for the fastest, longest-lasting, and most reliable drive under $150 that is suitable to my application. Any thoughts? Thanks!"
