Nothing more than companies making money off of lazy people. I work directly in this field. We have located every device we own every time we need it. Without spending millions for something that isn't needed. It just a matter of people being responsible.
Here we go again, The people is this group are NOT the general public. We look for what matters to use. The common person is just getting a 32 - 40 inch to replace a CRT. They will not have HD, 5.1, BD, or even HD locals. Just a flat panel to plug in their crappy cable signal to. Only about 2 - 5 % of people give a S**t about this stuff. 32" under $500, plasma doesn't stand a chance. I also bet you will find that 90% of all LCD's are 720p. Antother reason BD isn't picking up speed. Upconvert a DVD to 720 or downconvert 1080p. On a 720 LCD they are alomost the same, to the general public. Which is the group of people that matter. We who check specs and purchase better than normal equipment are not the majority here.
Have you ever used a Dish DVR? Much better than Tivo. And at a much lesser cost. I use both DVR's. Dish has much better hardware. The menu and guides drom Diret TV just plain suck. You have to use twice as many buttons to achieve the same result. As for Tivo, keep it standalone and out of Dish and DIrect TV.
They gave us 22 channels that most will never use. And took away 10 Voom channels without any notice. They are just gone. Once Fox gets off it's high horse and settles up the HD only package will be complete.
Hey, I have an old Rockem Sockem Robots game. Can I re-package it and sell it as a new idea? I wouldn't buy it but I'm sure someone will. Besides if you truley love music, nothing beats analog........
Bd-Live will just be another useless option. 2.0 who cares. It has nothing to do with watching a movie. Maybe 1 in 50 movies I might check out special features. Way too much is being made of this. NO ONE will use it. Just like BD-Live. Just more wasted effort towards a feature that was thought up by people who have no idea what customers use and or need. If it get built on Java then it won't stand a chance on being worth a crap. Nothing locks up a pc faster. Oh wait, is't a PS3 a PC?
"A profile 2.0 player can do far more than any HD DVD player ever could. Not least because the download storage is much larger but also because of BD-J. And even a 1.1 player has BD-J meaning it is capable of far more than HD DVD could ever dream of in terms of the interactive functionality it could offer."

Spoken like a person that doesn't even own one of these piece of crap BD-J machines. Anything needing Java to operate will fail and crash. These machine are like mini pc's. Java is the biggest enemy of pc's. Java will be the reason BD fails. Poeple what to watch a movie, not five loading screens that lockup.

As for HD audio and 2.0. Remember most people buy 720 flat panel TV's. Which means they don't surround, and can't even tell what 1080p looks like. Upscaling a DVD to 720 will almost look like 1080p downscaled to 720. Thus other reason why they just don't care about BD.
Might as well make games in BD, no one is watching movies on this crappy format!
a few holes in your story as well. The only reason people pick up an old release is becasue it's in the 2 for $10 bin. No one cares about a fiver yr old release that $40 in BD. Plain and simple. This is not about which format is better DVD or BD. Its about comon sense. Average home has 3 - 4 DVD players. It will be years before that home gets converted to BD if ever. BD will always loose the weekly release game beacuse they are not getting the not movies. Last weeks rentals. 3 in BD. They missed out on titles like The mist, Lions for lambs, Reservation road. I watch one of the BD relaeses for the week and six DVD. Just becasue they won over HD DVD they are loosing the war. I watch what is available. Not what they re-release six months from now. There is something to be said about turning on a DVD player and watching a movie in 20sec vs. a min or more watching loading screens. BD needs to dump java and find a reliable way to run a menu. 2.0 who cares. Maybe 2% watch the special features. Yes we see the difference in quailty, 80 -90 % of the public just don't care. Just like HDTV. As long as they can watch waht they want they are happy. Quality is far down the list
We want new titles, not ones we've seen on HBO for the last five years.......
Let the hive mind of Engadget get that for you.
"I am looking for a device that will stream sound from one source to several recipients. For example, I want to stream sound from my TV or stereo to my phone or MP3 player that has radio and Bluetooth capabilities. I have looked into radio transmitters and they seem like a decent choice, but I can't find one that uses external power (USB or from the plug) and I would want one with a transmit range of around 50 meters. Thanks!"
