It's designed that way for a reason. Acoustics above aesthetics. Also the grills are part of this speaker design assisting in better sound dispersion. They are curved metallic grates not speaker cloth and can't really be removed.
They were the only single glass pane plasma makers that could be considered good. Hitachi and Panny viewers may as well be looking at a mirror when it comes to glare.
I was thinking the same. What about LG and Hitachi. LG is the only other single pane plasma manufacturer out there. We know that those 42pc5d's aren't pioneer panels. I would also assume that Panasonic is not manufacturing better (read single pane) panels and selling them to LG and not using them in their own product line. What gives??????
Let the hive mind of Engadget get that for you.
"I'm looking for a pair of quality headphones that aren't seemingly made of glass. I'm an avid BMXer which causes me to frequently bash on any type of technology that joins me for my daily riding. I've been through the higher quality headsets in the Skullcandy line as these are supposed to be built for "abuse," which is laughable. I cant wear earbuds or canal buds, as my large ears seem to have a repelling property upon anything that sits in them. Wired or Bluetooth doesn't really matter, but I need something that can hold up to taking a few hits every now and again. I'm trying to keep 'em under $150. Thanks!"
