Did you even read the article? A E* prototype was shown. We know a D* one exists too. The technology is there, there are other (probably political and $$$) hurdles in the way.
Who cares? You can do with a Sprint activated Palm Pre already. Just turn on data roaming and your good to roam on verizon whenever you want. Sure the data isn't 3g, but its better then this hack thats no data at all.

Two words: Prior art. Bust MIT's patent wide open!
Does this work with CableCard enabled Vista Media Centers as well? All of the links I can find on TheGreenButton and and Chris Lanier's blog are just speculation.
There isn't even any accumulation here in NYC (midtown) yet. Stop complaining! Wear a hat and grab an umbrella. Subways always run too.
The decoding chips could be better. Just because it doesn't have an ethernet port and isn't 2.0 compatible doesn't mean its worthless to people who are seeking out the absolute best in quality.
Seems expensive to me! Lets say each home is one customer @ 90$/month for cable, tel, and inet. Thats about 3.2M. It'll take 12 years to recover just the purchase price and thats being optimistic assuming all 36,000 homes subscribe. Not to mention upkeep and expansions!
Combine IFC and Sundance into one channel(similar content) and Cablevision can now have their own HD network that they can sell to other carriers.
I don't understand why companies don't make these all in one units that aren't mountable via VESA.
Let the hive mind of Engadget get that for you.
"I just moved into a new apartment and have been reading about all of the new power strips out there, especially the green ones. I was wondering if you had any suggestions about which "green "power strips are out there with decent joules ratings. And when I say green, I mean power strips that have the remotes or switches to turn off all electricity flowing to certain plugs and with at least 2 plugs that are always on. I was looking specifically at sub $50 because I will need two, but if that is not possible I could be convinced otherwise. Thanks!"
