Common sense should tell you that if many, many people are reporting a problem that you didn't experience, that you were lucky.
This thing is braindead unless Tivo did all of the following. I believe it did none.
1) Leverage their existing codebase and real-time Linux improvements. Run in a VM. Instead they probably spent a lot of time rewriting and porting a proven platform and targeted only Windows, a disproven platform.
2) Integrate with other Tivo set top boxes to allow watching of recorded material interchangeably between them.
3) Like others have stated, no monthly / yearly fees for existing Tivo customers / lifetime subscribers etc.
You probably don't want it, its not that great. So don't download it, so the server will free up and I can.
Why on earth is doing the basic sync / backup / restore options of an iPhone dependent on not only Internet connectivity, but availability of some Apple server out there? I've at least got a working 1.4 iPhone, but with no contacts, text messages, songs, or data of any kind. And iTunes won't let me restore it from an existing backup because it can't talk to the iTunes store!!!??? The iPhone 2.0 is supposed to make it more attractive for business use, but how on earth can you sell a phone for business purposes where half of them are bricked entirely and the other half in limbo missing all their data? What a clusterfuck...
Let the hive mind of Engadget get that for you.
"I have a MacBook Pro and an Xbox 360 and I would like to get a 20- to 24-inch display that will support both devices. The speakers should be inbuilt, or there should be an aux out on the display to hook up external speakers. Help! Please!"
