i just want the hard drive, dont need hdmi, dont need hddvd.
Cablecard and Over the Air.
Yes I have cablecard installed, much better picture than HDMI or component.
Sonic the hedgehog
Best bet, both xbox 360 hddvd + ps3 hd or toshiba hda1 and PS3.
or 3, DVHS and record + ps3+ xbox 360hddvd.
Wii-xbox360 and ps3
all these can be had for the price of 1 stand alone blueray player
However I do not think either console will give the dedicated performance and quality and features of a dedicated HD player.
just dont blow $1000-$2000 on a first gen blue ray player and 25GB Mpeg3-4 blueray disks. get everything else. and hdmi/component switcher
congrats with your samsung, true 1080p or not, I am sure it looks great, my friend has a 720p Samsung DLP and it looks great also.
Did you calibrate it with Avia or DVE and is it set to Monitor?
they will probably just re-release there D-VHS titles which are also Mpeg2, probably the same masters?
Someone awnser this.
Can the PS3 out 1080P over component, HDMI, or both or none, is it limited to 1080i output?
Hey Toby, it remains to be seen if a cablecard equipped box with hard drives, tuners, and other electronics-made by multiple vendors, will give you as clear and vibrant picture as a straight to tv and only use the TV electronics and cable card setup.
I also notice virtually no picture breakup with the card, but much more with the box.
in your situation it seems impossible to test since the TV is not cable card ready.
let us know how it goes and if you get a chance to see a native tvcablecard standard def and hidef pic vs a box or cable card box let us know what you think. standard def improves the most, but hi def is also better it has an extra pop! to it.
good luck
Sony KDS XBR960 !
It's not 1080P, and it's not Huge, and it's not LCOS, DLP, Plasma, or LCD, but it has perhaps the best picture out there currently under $10,000.00.
nano second response time, unlimited contrast, 3D like image, great with 480i and cable card, built in firewire (lots you can do with that), it has a great warrantyy, will last over a decade, and did I say the 'Picture Quality" is second to none!

P.S. Sony dicontinued it and is closing most if not all of there CRT Tube plants, this is the one area where sony products are clearly superior, oh well.
Now samsungs makes Sony LCD's.
LCD make more short term profit for sony so bye bye Sony CRT's.
And I was Hoping for A Sony 1080P direct view tv. oh well.....
Let the hive mind of Engadget get that for you.
"I have a MacBook Pro and an Xbox 360 and I would like to get a 20- to 24-inch display that will support both devices. The speakers should be inbuilt, or there should be an aux out on the display to hook up external speakers. Help! Please!"
