Look man its not about a director's future potential as a director its about their performance that year and the impact they make that year. If Scorsese can't direct a film that reaches out to people in a particular but his films become popular overtime that doesn't mean that he deserves an award this year to make up for all the ones he lost in the past. Hitchcock and Kubrick never won Oscars either. People vote on how a film impacts them emotionally. It may not seem fair but I believe that voters should continue to vote on a year by year basis and not be out to honor a individual for their past or future performances. Besides that what lifetime achievements are for.

Ahh... but it has only been three months for HD-DVD on the market. Blu-ray hasn't been given the same amount of time to find a way in the marketplace.
