From the manual it definitely has a different GUI and several features that people have been requesting for the WDTV1, like using the next button to skip to the next chapter. The WDTV1 requires you to navigate the option menu, at least five button presses, to do the same. The latest prerelease firmware finally fixes audio sync issues with MKV files (after being broken for ~8 releases), but it looks like generally they used the WDTV1 to beta test their next product, leaving us behind. Sucks to be an early adopter.

Until Western Digital gets their firmware issues ironed out, I wouldn't buy one. I've been encoding my own MKV files, and the last several firmware updates have major audio sync issues. Maybe you'll have a fortunate file mix and squeak by, but I'm looking at a $130 box that isn't worth plugging in--unless of course you don't mind throwing around another 500 hours of encoding time to pick another format.
Get hit by that oncoming meteor I keep hearing about.
I think this stick uses hardware encoding to convert files to H.264 instead of simply importing to MPEG-2 and using your computer's hardware to transcode. That's the only way it's worth nearly $100. Maybe this is their way of getting a little more life out of the hardware from their turbo.264.

You dissed a couple pop stars? I don't think that makes you a music snob. Just means you don't know where to take a piss. How can I exclude his posts from the RSS feed?
Let the hive mind of Engadget get that for you.
"With all the new multitouch capable monitors coming out, which one is the best? With the release of Windows 7 I really want a touchscreen monitor for my desktop. I'm looking to get a Full HD monitor that supports multitouch and can still look great during gaming and movies. Which one has the best specs for the price?"
