To bad you missed the key words in your 3rd paragraph "broadcast signals that are subject to mandatory carriage".

Virtually none of the ABC/CBS/FOX/NBC affilliates elect for "must carry" status which is free of compensation. They now demand compensation, thus removing them from the "mandatory carriage" demand of "must carry" and technically can be encrypted, as AT&T U-verse customers (among others) know all too well. Sure, your local Univision and Religous Broadcaster might demand "must carry status" and remain un-encrypted, but if "mandatory carriage" is the determing factor as stated above, that means that local stations one really cares about could easily be encrypted sooner than later.
The CE Update for Saturday was cancelled because, just like last week, the firmware is seriously flawed and causes the DVR to reboot every half hour. Virtually everyone who downloaded it on Friday has had to go back to the older firmware - thus, no double live buffers (and live buffers do no good if your unit is rebooting every half hour).
Might want to read the specs.

YPbPr will only do 60 field/1920x1080i sometime in the future with a firmware update (and we know how well future plans always work out on time) and no one knows if it will really work as well as expected as its not out yet.

VGA will never do full 1920x1080
Resolutions Supported:
640x480, 720x480, 800x600, 1024x768, 1152x864, 1176x664, 1280x720, 1280x768, 1280x800, 1280x960, 1280x1024, 1360x768, 1440x900 at 60 70, 72, 75, 85 Hz. 1680x1050 at 60 Hz
It appears you (and most of the public) will also be surprised when analog TV continues to work on 2/17/2009 after being told it would not. The first time viewers will notice the analog signoff en mass will be on 2/18/2009 as local stations will continue to broadcast analog until 11:59:59PM on 2/17/2009.
Let the hive mind of Engadget get that for you.
"I just moved into a new apartment and have been reading about all of the new power strips out there, especially the green ones. I was wondering if you had any suggestions about which "green "power strips are out there with decent joules ratings. And when I say green, I mean power strips that have the remotes or switches to turn off all electricity flowing to certain plugs and with at least 2 plugs that are always on. I was looking specifically at sub $50 because I will need two, but if that is not possible I could be convinced otherwise. Thanks!"
