Silicon Mountain Holdings doesn't do too badly as the parent company, so it's not too much of a no-name company issue. I came here looking for a review, but the top Google result just hits this press release via another press release. I found a very informative review at http://www.examiner.com/x-2041-Denver-Gadgets-Examiner~y2008m12d24-Visionman-Allio-PCTV-review--Part-one-Introduction that also explains the mechanics behind this thing a lot better. With on-site repair and apparently the ability to change out components soon, I'll be watching this.
Let the hive mind of Engadget get that for you.
"I've found myself using my PC for a lot of conversations lately, and I'm also considering recording a podcast to share with anyone who will listen. There are tons of USB headset / microphones out there, and I'm hoping someone has some solid recommendations based on experience. I'll consider both headsets and standalone mics, by the way, but I'd like to keep the bill under $100 if possible. Help!"
