I've been using PlayOn to watch Hulu and about a dozen other streaming sites on my PS3 for a while now. It works just fine. I could never stand watching videos through the PS3's kludgy web browser. With PlayOn everything streams perfectly and I can access just about any streaming site I want directly from the XMB. The newest version even lets you stream local content.
So did they go with the 1.33GHz processor to save power? I'm trying to figure out why this is $560, when the 1000HE is $383 on Amazon right now. Obviously this one has a bigger screen, and (claimed) battery life of up to 11 hours. But the 1000HE is faster (1.66GHz) and nearly as energy-sipping (claimed 9.5 hours battery life).

Am I missing some important difference besides the screen size?
So what's the difference between Boxee and, say, PlayOn? Does it just have a nicer interface for couch viewing? They both seem to have the same or similar content choices.
Weird my comment got all jacked up. The last sentence was supposed to read:

"But none of the products currently on offer come close to what I'm able to do with a sub-$1000 tv, a PS3/Xbox, and an HTPC"
I couldn't agree more. Until these so-called "connected" TVs behave more like network streaming devices, it's kind of a non-starter for me. What's the point of having "widgets" that let me check the weather or see the latest news headlines, but don't let me actually watch TV or movies over my network or the Internet?

Don;t get me wrong, I'd love to see a tv that can do it all. I would even be willing to pay a premium for one that truly did everything I want it to do. But none of the products currently on offer come close to what I'm able to do with a
I bet my 128Kbps/44.1kHz mp3 collection will sound GREAT through this!
Just what I've always needed! A pair of $26,900 portable trash compactors!
Roooooooosebuuuuud.....
Oh It's because its listed as PMJ-1000 in the article instead of PJM-1000.
I can't seem to find this on Amazon.
Let the hive mind of Engadget get that for you.
"I'm looking for a solid state drive, around 32 to 64GB, for use in my web server. The drive will contain my web sites and the operating system, either Windows Server 2008 R2 or Ubuntu. Large storage is handled by a separate RAID array, so capacity is not an issue. Rather, I am looking for the fastest, longest-lasting, and most reliable drive under $150 that is suitable to my application. Any thoughts? Thanks!"
