"Thoroughly worthless AVCHD format" ... are you kidding? AVCHD is the defacto standard for hi-def camcorders. What format were you expecting? HDV with MPEG2?
Agreed. If it was region-free out of the box, maybe. I know there are hack software and hardware mods out there, but software means you don't get the benefits of the new firmware updates from Oppo and hardware means even more money.

Having tried several Blu-ray players, I still find the PS3 to be the best value overall. I also don't buy the argument people are making that Blu-ray PQ on the Oppo is noticeably better than most of the other latest generation players out there, or for that matter the PS3.

In terms of a full-fledged media player, I'm saving my money to get the Popcorn Hour C-200 when it's released this month. Once you add a BD-ROM drive, it should be able to play just about any media you throw at it. Even with the addition of a BD-ROM drive, the total cost should be less than the Oppo.
Let the hive mind of Engadget get that for you.
"I need help! I want a small pocket camcorder but I'm not sure which one to get. I don't want to fall into the hype of the Flip because I worry two hours won't be enough. What should I be looking for when considering a small camcorder and where can I get a good quality one with expandable memory? Thanks!"
