@ Brian Hoyt - there are already some 1.2 receivers out. The new Marantz 7001 and 8001 both have 1.2. Also I believe the new Yamaha (don't know the model off hand) has 1.2a. You're right the 1.3 receivers don't sound like they'll be out for a while - the dates I've heard are Spring 2007 at the earliest.
Check out hdmi.org for all the details about the different flavors of hdmi. I don't think HDMI 1.2 offers much over 1.1 except that it can pass or receive SACD in its native format (DVD-Audio can be passed with 1.1). Also, I would suggest anyone interested in this discussion read up on avsforum that seems to be the place for the latest information.
There's lots of discussions about this at avsforum.com. The consensus is that 1.3 is not necessary. Even if your receiver has hdmi 1.1 then if the high def player can decode the new high def format then the uncompressed pcm can be passed over the hdmi 1.1 connection. Check out this thread...

"I'm looking for a pair of quality headphones that aren't seemingly made of glass. I'm an avid BMXer which causes me to frequently bash on any type of technology that joins me for my daily riding. I've been through the higher quality headsets in the Skullcandy line as these are supposed to be built for "abuse," which is laughable. I cant wear earbuds or canal buds, as my large ears seem to have a repelling property upon anything that sits in them. Wired or Bluetooth doesn't really matter, but I need something that can hold up to taking a few hits every now and again. I'm trying to keep 'em under $150. Thanks!"
