To clarify my previous post, I am trying to allow people to copy without additional charge. I just think that some stuff, like mine, might actually be BETTER from a hard drive under certain circumstances.

If I'm not charging, does anybody know if the server will simply allow a copy to be made?
My post pertains to the use of managed copy on some discs I am releasing in 3 weeks. I have 3 Blu-ray discs coming out on December 1, all in the ambient art genre (the 7.1 DTS-HD MA makes ambient *really* ambient.

Anyway... I flagged each of the discs for managed copy, and the Manifest XML file is pointed to the default AACSLA server, but because I can't actually test the managed copy function on a BR deck, I don't know how well it will work. I'm relying on hardware manufacturers and software on computers to have a managed copy function. There is no "managed copy" link on my disc -- just the permissions set in the managed copy manifest xml.

It's my hope that it will work sort of in the way that iTunes DRM worked. The server will see that the disc is flagged to allow copies to be made. Does anybody have any information that they can share in this regard? I'm not sure if emails can be posted here, and I'm purposely avoiding a "plug," however, with my discs at the replicator, I'd gladly make a change if it helped to make this work more smoothly.

Thanks!

I use Nike+ religiously, and I also downloaded a free app called "Lose It."

With all of the running I was doing, I wondered why I wasn't losing more weight. Lose It is a calorie tracker and most foods are already in it, so you just search them and also log things like exercise. Since doing that, I've lost about 35 lbs. I used to weigh about 199, and now I weigh in at 164.

Needless to say, my running times have also increased without the added weight -- from about 10 minute miles to about 7:40 for a daily 5-6 mile run.

Calorie tracking is a key part of weight loss. The Lose It app remembers what you ate in the past, and it makes it easier to add those things again when you eat them again.
Oh please Baby Jesus, please don't make me hate my current iPhone. I don't want them to make my 3G obsolete already

:'(
I have been listening to XM on my iphone for the last month using an online subscription ($7.99 a month), by using the OoTunes software in the app store.

It's a pretty sweet program, with a built in browser, so you can surf the web, check web mail, etc without exiting the program. Kind of like multitasking within an app. It cost me $2.99 and was some of the best money I spent in the app store.

I wonder if the new rates will affect Ootunes users. If so, I'll cancel XM. (Sirius is supported in Beta and there are many more streams besides SiriusXM that you can access thru Ootunes.
You are absolutely correct. I don't care about anybody else except for my beautiful self because nobody else should enjoy this product on the backs of people who were exploited by Sling Media.

I wouldn't say this if the beta didn't work on the old devices. This is clearly a case of older devices being locked out to force upgrades.
I hope that Apple kills the Sling Player app the way that Sling killed support for their older units.

Furthermore, I hope that they offer a competing product and crush Sling Media.
Not getting away with murder with me. I don't trust them enough to buy the next version just to have it obsoleted when they need more money. To say that image quality was an issue is such utter crap -- anyone ever watch a show over 3G? Since when is resolution an issue?

@Matt, I think the point is "big deal, a $10 discount."

F.U. Sling. I hope that you become a case study in failure.
Having happily paid $30 for the logmein app, I'd say that I would have easily spent $30-$40 for an iPhone Sling app. However, I won't upgrade my device AND pay for an app. Not when I'm being intentionally fenced out by a marketing decision.

On the other hand, LogMeIn has provided a GREAT & FREE service to me, and I thanked them with my business.

The idea that "the customer is always right," is definitely NOT true. However, customers should be treated with respect and decency. They could have offered a slightly more expensive version of the application for older devices by saying that part of the price was included in the newer devices.
I have been a proud owner of the 1st generation Sling, but as the saying goes, "standards are industry's way of codifying obsolescence." My Slingbox will join the trash heap of other unused gadgets I've acquired over the years.

Has anybody had any luck with Hava Player? Are there are dedicated devices that will work with Orb? If I'm going to be forced to upgrade, I'm going to upgrade to something without the one viewing node limit and without DRM.
Let the hive mind of Engadget get that for you.
"I'm looking for a solid state drive, around 32 to 64GB, for use in my web server. The drive will contain my web sites and the operating system, either Windows Server 2008 R2 or Ubuntu. Large storage is handled by a separate RAID array, so capacity is not an issue. Rather, I am looking for the fastest, longest-lasting, and most reliable drive under $150 that is suitable to my application. Any thoughts? Thanks!"
