The one major thing they haven't thought about - but the consumer does very much so - is that even IF you can tweet (or whatever verb you want to insert for any given app) from any phone in the future, the problem for the consumer is that once they have purchased an app on one platform (i.e.- the iphone), are they really going to want to have to pay for that app again on another platform? They aren't free...

I've spent easily $300-$400 on apps for our 3 iphone household and that alone is a huge barrier to entry for any new phone platform in our household.

Much like MS built their empire on the desktop through the availability of apps and the investments (both $$ and work behaviors...) - think about the major reasons why people didn't/wouldn't/won't switch from a PC to a Mac and you get the idea - I believe they have allowed Apple to get so far ahead on the app/software front on the mobile platform that they only way they catch them is if Apple missteps.

So why do you assume that only having 1 port means you can only connect 1 source? Don't most people use an av receiver today that supports multiple inputs then outputs to a single hdmi - which in this case could be this wireless device?
Sure seems to me that Apple can say what they want in a document but when it came to a judge in court, they have some responsbility here seeing as how they have taken a 30% cut of the sale. Taking some of the profit but none of the responsibility/accountability won't hold up in a court of law.

Bu*tholes!
Sorry bout that last post guys... damn auto fill (but funny none the less!).

I STRONGLY suspect that what Apple is doing here - particularly with the significant slimming down of the OS X footprint - is prepping for upcoming devices like the rumored apple tablet and/or netbook type devices. Smaller footprint/storage/efficiency for 'lighter' devices (and I don't mean physically lighter per say...).

Don't be surprised (now they've announced that SL will be available in September) to see Jobs come back and announce the tablet (or something similar) to be available on or about the same time as SL ships.

Mark my words...
No Barry Manilow fans here? Barry all the way! At the copa- copa-cabana! :)
I unplugged my vudu box when I noticed how much upstream bandwidth it was consuming on my bband connection EVEN WHEN I AM NOT USING IT AT ALL. My average upload usage went from around 1GB (download is in the 40GB normally) to over 45GB per month and that was for two months when I didn't even use the box!!!! Disconnected it and voila! Back to normal.

Sneaky bastards!!!!!!

twould be nice...
I've been around the block with all the apps mentioned (particularly appreciated the link to the "switcher" article... man can I empathize!) and where I have landed for my situation is:

iPhone: ToDo (appigo)
Web: Toodledo (free)
Desktop: Outlook tasks with free Toodledo for Outlook sync utility

For anyone using Outlook on the desktop (like most of us in a corporate environment), the above setup is superb as you can have your tasks from Outlook to the web to the iphone always in sync.
I think your post has its logic all wrong... the fact that HDTVs are flying off shelves doesn't discount that DVDs aren't good enough - quite the opposite. DVDs NEED an HD set to do the DVD justice (due to standard NTSC resolution being less than even DVD resolution). HDTVs make DVDs look awesome for the average consumer.

Why there is little to no bluray demand on the desktop (or laptop) is very clear to me - what is *really* the point of all that 'extra' resolution on such a small screen (ie.- bluray makes a difference on a large HDTV but not a 17" or under laptop where even DVD's look great)?
Let the hive mind of Engadget get that for you.
"With all the new multitouch capable monitors coming out, which one is the best? With the release of Windows 7 I really want a touchscreen monitor for my desktop. I'm looking to get a Full HD monitor that supports multitouch and can still look great during gaming and movies. Which one has the best specs for the price?"
