I just use an over the air antenna hooked up to a pre amp at the antenna, and a distro amp in the closet where all the room cables end. 5 HDTVs and 4 computers get DTV signals. No monthly charges for all that. Combined with an AppleTV, XBOX360, PS3 to rent hd movies on and a networked (HomeRun from SiliconDust) tuner to record television with the vista and mac pcs... plenty of HD all over the house on Quad shielded rg6u and cat 6 cables to each room.
Dish was supposed to have it soon on Channel 9450... but they failed to make it by torchwood so I'm going to cancel and download via my AppleTV in HD. After 2 online chats and a call they have failed. Hope they get it someday I may eventually resubscribe. Or maybe I'll just use U-Verse when it arrives at my home. Oh well.
Have had one of these from the start... suffered through its weak software to version 08 and now it is finally stable and usable. Not a bad machine if you can get over the station provided guide info... some incomplete, some only 24 hours ahead... some you have to tune to to update... so we need to get the FCC to mandate 7 days schedule from all stations... but I digress... now that it's working... would love a bedroom set.

On the World financial front... Regulate the military, the CIA, prosecute the previous criminal administration, re-regulate the financial industry to post great depression levels, Cut the military budget in half and spend that half on giving veterans and all americans a better quality of life, schools, vet and other hospitals, libraries, public transit etc. Simple... right.

Cheers.
Dish network is supposed to be carrying it on 9450 in HD... but their own customer support wasn't sure when today... as of 1pm pacific it was not even in the guide so I could DVR it.

They could probably use a few calls to the 800 to get their attention focused by 5pm pacific... though it is repeated again later in the eve.

I am really ready to go with locals via OTA and my AppleTV and DVD/BR for most everything else.

1st I had to teach a Dish Tech how to aim their dish after he spent 6 unsuccessful hours trying.
Then when MSNBC went HD I had to ask for it as it was in the guide but nonfunctional. Cust service didn't know it was even there... (hadn't seen their own Press Release)
Then today I did online chat with an agent who discovered that BBC America HD is on 9450 and should be there... ( this morning) followed by the aforementioned agent who was again surprised about the channel and registered an issue for me with the programming team.

So... next time Dish fails it will be disconnected after years of paying them $100 a month

Torchwood better be there tonight...
For single tv installs... at less than 20 miles of reasonably smooth terrain, the ones with smart antenna sockets are cool... get the rca 2000 smart antenna and locate it near a window... in the direction of the transmitters.

For everything else a rooftop antenna is best... new smaller ones that work for channels 7-51 are a good bet... aim them carefully based on Antennaweb coordinates and pre amp the antenna for best results. Rooftop antennas are also now legal even with Homeowners associations... the feds passed the OTARD rules allowing almost anyone to put up, up to a 12 foot mast.

As for tuners... the LG/Zenith/Insignia gets good reviews... the GE with smart antenna works also... DTV pal plus is also nice.

Nice to get free tv. Looks better than cable or sat also... less processing and no to space and back delay.
I have one... at first it locked up all the time... then I ran the firmware update and it was better... only crashes every 3 -4 hours or so... at least I can watch a recorded movie now... the other thing I discovered that crashes them is really weak channels... or possibly channels with bad PSIP data.... ( the channel # aliases) This also sends the unit out to lunch...

It also is awkwardly slow in transitions between live delayed playback and fails to show "live tv" when it catches up to it.

I like the unit alot and have been sending info to the techs... The guide data is limiting since they use only what is sent by the stations... for instance... my PBS stations send a weeks worth... but most of the others only 24 to 48 hours of data. I suggested they offer a cheap subscription like tv guide data for $20 per year like EyeTV does...

There are some user interface tweaks I would do if it were my product... the arrow pad works up and down to move side to side on the screen...

I hope they can patch this thing up because I really appreciate what they are trying to do... and the product still has promise but like most 1.0 releases it has been a bit bumpy.

If you have an original download the thumbdrive patch as this helps

You can also plug an ethernet wire into it and it can download the update itself from the company over the internet.

I'm still a fan... but I'm a little nervous.
The folks beating up on our new President... are continuously proving their ignorant bias.

This economy and all it's losses line up squarely on the shoulders of all republicans.

They have been lying and blaming it on President Obama since before he was even sworn into office.

They and Captain Rush cannot face the fact that their ignorant economic policies led their own president to socialize corporate losses onto the backs of the american worker.

They should be collectively ashamed... but instead they are brazen liars.

I sincerely believe they will rot in eternity... will the last capitalist please turn off the widget machine.

Jeff
OTA 8 or 9 years and later Dish HD...
You sure have a purty TV...

Triangle... foundation of all shapes... Long Live the ideas of Bucky Fuller... Long live the Geodesic Dome... Long live the carbon nanotubes made of bucky balls...
Let the hive mind of Engadget get that for you.
"I'm looking for a solid state drive, around 32 to 64GB, for use in my web server. The drive will contain my web sites and the operating system, either Windows Server 2008 R2 or Ubuntu. Large storage is handled by a separate RAID array, so capacity is not an issue. Rather, I am looking for the fastest, longest-lasting, and most reliable drive under $150 that is suitable to my application. Any thoughts? Thanks!"
