So, will the adoption of cable card make the STB obsolete, or will it mean there are many more STB/PVR options than our cable operator offers us? I think it means the latter. I don't want a cable card in my TV until my TV has 1TB of storage and runs Myth. All cable card does for the consumer right now is it lets your cable opperator tell you to buy a more expensive TV to get digital cable as opposed to them footing the bill for a $300 STB for you to rent for $5/mo.

It sounds like interlacing in the projection stage. If all they're doing is shifting the pixels a bit, and refreshing the image, the result would be roughly the affect of a blur filter. It might make the screen door appear to go away, but all it would really do is make each pixel a little less discreet. Sounds like a bad plan to me. Work on making the spaces between pixels go away, and you solve the jaggies problem AND have a clearer picture.

RE Monday Night Football. Whats the deal with ABC's HD feed? They seem to switch between 720p and 480i several times through the game, and then finally the last 5 minutes were all 480i. Is this just my market? (KOMO Seattle on Comcast) or is everyone getting this?

This is just speculation, but I believe any local DTV that is carried by a cable provider is not allowed to be encrypted. It wouldn't make financial sense for cable to encrypt locals either because the equipment involved is expensive, and they can't get much, or any return out of charging for the local channels. So, get a HDTV with a QAM tuner, order basic or digital basic from cable, and you get a clear signal for your local channels. You don't have to mess with a dorky set top OTA antenna, or worse, have a professional install one on your roof.

Did they get 567i from BBC? or 480i? Not sure it makes a huge difference, but 87 more lines can't hurt!

I'm all for it, but... 1. Broadcast Flag has to be settled first. People don't want new technology that takes features away. The unwashed masses may not understand what digital is or why its better, but tell them the new technology means they can't record a show unless the network lets them, and they will understand that. 2. When can I get HDNet and HDNet Movies on Comcast digital cable?
