I guess this doesn't work on Macs. I tried downloading it but just get a .rar file both Thunderbird and Leopard don't know what to do with.

Why not just not install the update? Keep 1.02 and be able to run all the great native apps. Teh 1.11 firmware adds very little features as far as I'm concerned. The biggest one is the Wifi iTunes store but you can always still just buy your music on iTunes on your home computer so it's not a big deal to me.

I tried both and to my eyes (very picky) they look exactly the same on my HDTV. I guess is a testament to how good my HDTV is, they both look awesome!

Actually, this is not always correct.

Case in point, when the Stiver family got caught for 15 days on the same road back in March, they wouldn't have been rescued had one of them not left the vehicle and went hiking for help.

Let the hive mind of Engadget get that for you.
