"The Blu-ray 2.0 spec (or BD Live) is just around the corner, and the "father of Java" thinks it won't disappoint."

...unless your current Blu-ray player isn't a PS3 and you won't be able to access these "new" features.

Half of that money was spent on the obsolete Blu-ray player. :-P

About price not apparently being a factor in standalone sales, and Blu-ray players "selling" 93% of standalones a couple weeks ago...you might want to read these:

Hello again!

As for your wondering of why the studios don't just put the latest firmware updates on their discs, my guess is this:

I think that the studios wouldn't want to have any chance of being blamed for any players that could be hurt at all by a failed firmware update.
Should've used BD+
Let the hive mind of Engadget get that for you.
"I'm looking for a pair of quality headphones that aren't seemingly made of glass. I'm an avid BMXer which causes me to frequently bash on any type of technology that joins me for my daily riding. I've been through the higher quality headsets in the Skullcandy line as these are supposed to be built for "abuse," which is laughable. I cant wear earbuds or canal buds, as my large ears seem to have a repelling property upon anything that sits in them. Wired or Bluetooth doesn't really matter, but I need something that can hold up to taking a few hits every now and again. I'm trying to keep 'em under $150. Thanks!"
