We all know the game they play and whos fault it is, but it's not that difficult. OMG we need a device that can communicate in 2 directions. By god that just can't be done .... (sarcasm)

So now you have 2 additional boxes talking to the tuner using cablecards for authentication just to ..... ready for this .... Watch TV. It shouldn't be that frickin ridiculous. I mean come on.

I see that it works with Tuning adapters but has there been any word on cablecards with SDV baked in, so we don't need yet ANOTHER box? I mean, come on, how difficult would that be?

OMFG will this thing ship already? Also, has there been any word on cablecards that will work seemlesly with SDV?

Actually most of what you describe is already available via Win7 (beta), media center extenders and 360 or other pc's running Win 7. Granted the cablecard portion is an engineered fiasco which is done purposely by the cable co's.

My current setup has a big box, "home server" running 7 beta with a few TB of space that holds all of our media and records all TV. The other tv's access live TV, recorded programming and music via extenders. With Win 7 when you setup Media Center and your HomeGroup the recorded TV folders are shared and can be accessed via other PCs running Win 7. It really is a great solution.

The only snafu at this point is integration of cablecards. The tuners are too pricey, and you can't buy a Digital Tuner approved PC with Win 7 until Fall. Their is absolutely no reason why digital cable tuners should cost $300.

As others have noted the 2100/2200's could be had for 99/150 last Christmas and I have 2 2200's running as extenders for 7MC and use a 360 as well. The 360's have a little more horse power and the 2200's take a little long to start up but once running, on a wired connection, are great for streaming HDTV, media and also serve as stand alone DVD players via HDMI. What's not to love.

Part of what held these back is the Cable co's control and lack of support for cablecards. Let's face it, they prefer to lease you a "piece o crap" box monthly than charge you for a cable card and let you distribute via extenders with no monthly charge. It's all about the $$$.
