I'm guessing doing 8vsb modulation over coax would be too easy & cheap...and the pirate police wouldn't be able to encrypt it. With 8vsb all you would need is a central box to play the content over digital channels your TV could easily tune in.
I tried to get TurboHD a couple weeks ago and my only option was to add it to an SD package. I wanted TurboHD Silver standalone for $32.99/mo but my only option was to upgrade from my Top 100 package to the Top 200 and then add TurboHD Silver on top of that. That would bring me up to $54.99/mo. At this point I hate all cable & satellite providers.
Too bad their new standalone HD package (TurboHD) is only available to *new* customers. I'd gladly give up my less-than-SD crap-o-vision package with them to get TurboHD (fewer HD channels) for the same price. I think it's time to call their cancellation department and see how much they care about loosing a customer.
Our local PBS station has been transmitting a dedicated HD channel for quite awhile. They also have 5 SD channels. They offer more content than any other broadcast station in our area (Minneapolis, MN).
Let the hive mind of Engadget get that for you.
"With all the new multitouch capable monitors coming out, which one is the best? With the release of Windows 7 I really want a touchscreen monitor for my desktop. I'm looking to get a Full HD monitor that supports multitouch and can still look great during gaming and movies. Which one has the best specs for the price?"
