Does this mean we will finally, FINALLY see left-handed instruments made to emulate everything Paul McCartney ever played??
The problem is not that they don't understand piracy, but that the entire entertainment industry hasn't grasped the end of a business model based on selling the same consumer the same product again and again.

From LPs to 8-tracks to cassettes to CDs, the music industry has made a lot of money selling the exact same product to the same people over and over. Digital has destroyed that business model. Instead of adapting to the change, the entertainment industry as a whole is desperately trying to find a way to make people continue to buy multiple copies of the same exact product.

The film industry hasn't even caught up to that point yet because they are still dragging their feet in releasing BluRays to sell to people who have already bought theater tickets, video tapes, laser discs, and DVDs of the same product.

Consumers know that they shouldn't have to pay again to get something they have already bought, but the industry still thinks they can operate without reacting to the change in the consumer mindset about those multiple purchases. The entertainment industry needs to change into a high volume, low profit margin business even more than they already are.

Artists are also going to need to change. Digital distribution will do away with the need for content distributors (the buggy whip manufacturers of the entertainment induistry). Musicians and film-makers will eventually rewrite their contracts to allow for direct distribution of digital copies of their works and cut out the middleman businesses to help lower costs and make their art more affordable and widely available.

It's hard to be a dying business, and the industry is trying hard to find its own relevance.
Running BES on VZW in NJ and not a glitch all day. Guess I'm in the lucky 50%.
Now if they would just address the final glaring piece of the puzzle and come out with an IR or even RF interface for remote controls. The biggest hurdle I'm having in justifying the PS3 as part of a home theater setup is the silly bluetooth remote control. If it won't work with existing universal remotes, it isn't a solution for blu-ray in the typical home setup.
I've never been one of the people to think this way about Toby. I always thought Toby would have done it. His self-loathing at many times stemmed from his own dislike of the military-industrial complex. Being an integral part of that system was exactly the kind of thing that made him different from his brother. Toby wanted to fight the system, even once he became the system. Toby is exactly the person in that White House who would have said "Damn the military policy, save the astronauts!"

Then again, I always thought Josh was way too smart to have a relationship with someone who worked for him, but the writers brought that out to disappoint me anyway. I always hated the whole Josh/Donna romantic angle because it destroyed the better parts of their relationship over time.

Thank you Kelly for bearing the brunt of the comments. I'm sure it wasn't an easy 2 weeks. It wasn't about you or what you wrote, but there were high expectations to live up to with TVS readers. Hey, if this had been done over at Engadget you would have been met with pages of comments "welcoming our new AOL overlords" to the blog.

It is good to know that we have been heard and our regular column by MY favorite TVS writer is coming back. I am still disappointed that the ONLY official announcement about any of this was the little blurb at the bottom of this posting.
I don't even really mind the crossposting with AOL. What I mind is the crossposting FROM AOL. Had AOL decided to syndicate Bob Sassone's column over there, I would have understood.

Hey, if you have duplication of services in your workforce, something has to give. Hopefully, you keep the better of the two providers.

It looks like AOL bought weblogs for a reader base instead of the content, and I don't like the implication that I have been bought. AOL didn't have compelling content before, now they bought someone who did, and we lost the content so they can try to have the readership.

Icck. I feel slimy. And I'm an AOL stockholder!
Oops! I missed a day to complain about this recycled, uselessly formatted, poorly written, snarkily titled, excuse for a column.

I am one of those who prefers that the column be published later in the day. I find it to be far more useful after work. It's the absolute least of the problems and I don't consider it to be truly important.

Will anyone address why we have to endure this? Hello? McDuffee? Anyone?

And, apparently somebody missed the fact that the 55th NHL All Star Game is on Versus tonight at 8 PM. Sure it will be a snooze fest of goal scoring, but I can always hope somebody checks Sidney Crosby into lindrosland.
An entire week of suffering through this. Uggh!

At least having gone to tvguide.com I now know that Numb3rs is a repeat tonight. I would have used your link for local listings, but it goes to AOL, and I won't click there as a matter of principle.

Please stop with the repost of this far worse coverage than when TVS had its own original content. If I wanted to read coverage from another site, I wouldn't look here for it.
Hockey is number 1 in terms of improvement through HD. The visibility of the puck has finally gotten to the point where non-fans don't get completely lost.

As for the rest, baseball still needs a pitch clock, so who cares if I can now watch individual blades of grass grow between pitches, and I really don't see the need for HD poker. Given the list, here's my version:

1. Hockey
2. Football
3. Tennis
4. Baseball
5. Poker
Let the hive mind of Engadget get that for you.
"I need help! I want a small pocket camcorder but I'm not sure which one to get. I don't want to fall into the hype of the Flip because I worry two hours won't be enough. What should I be looking for when considering a small camcorder and where can I get a good quality one with expandable memory? Thanks!"
