Is the Slim going to have an IR sensor or do you still need another solution? I'm considering ebaying my 18 month-old BR player for this.
Typically one of the drawbacks of DLP projectors when compared to LCD (or LCoS) is the lack of lens shift and zoom. The model you mention has a limited 1.0-1.2x zoom capability and lacks any lens shift. For nearly the same price as the InFocus you mentioned ($1,599 after rebate) you can get a Sanyo PLV-Z700 LCD projector with 1-2x zoom and lens shift.

The reason that this is important is the flexibility in placement that zoom and lens shift give you. Especially with an outdoor setup that could be taken down frequently, taken inside, etc. it would be nice to have that flexibility.

Looking at screens, an inexpensive solution is an inflatable screen. Walmart has a 144" 16:9 screen for less than $200.

Good luck!
Again, sir, your taste in photos is impeccable! Imagine opening EngadgetHD and seeing Julius Hodge. Well done. :)
Well, there goes the need for my wicked Canare/Belden RCA crimping and stripping skills. Anybody want to buy some used Canare tools?

This is great news folks.
Darren, you always put up the nicest photos...

Go Pack!
At that price, I had to pull the trigger. Now I'll have my Sammy P1400 in the bonus room and this in the den. Woohoo!
I'm a major victim of rainbows. I first started shopping for projectors in the X1/4805 days but ended up holding out a few months (and a few hundred dollars) for a 720p native LCD projector. I have owned a Panny AE700 and now AE900 & can't make the jump to DLP (in the under $3000 price range) due to the rainbow effect.
Hmm. I already have this film on HD DVD, so it'll be a tough sell for me. The kids like it, but I don't want to drop another $35.
I wouldn't use it, but that's the kind of item I could recommend to my parents or in-laws. Heck, for that price I could give it as a gift and set it up for them.

This is the kind of item that's not intended for the faithful EngadgetHD reader, but for the parents of faithful EngadgetHD readers. :)
Anecdotal evidence - I was in a BB a few months ago looking at discs and saw I Am Legend for $34.95. Meanwhile, amazon was selling the same title for $18.95 with free super saver shipping over $25 and no sales tax.

Being an impulse shopper can be an expensive habit. I'll wait a few days for that smiling box to come in the mail, thank you very much.
Let the hive mind of Engadget get that for you.
"What is the best wireless surround sound speaker solution? I have a home theater where running wires is just not feasible. I have my own speakers, so I don't want a system that has speakers with integrated wireless. I've done a far amount of research and have only come across a few companies that even offer a reasonable solution: KEF, Kenwood and Rocketfish. Is there anything else out there? What do you recommend? Thank you!"
