Interestingly this feature is arriving on Google powered devices before it hits the iPhone (neither one so far has added the <a href="http://www.engadget.com/2011/10/26/directvs-ipad-app-updated-with-live-tv-streaming-as-long-as-yo/">in-home live TV streaming feature</a> from the iPad app, however the iPhone does have a player <a href="http://www.engadget.com/2011/10/06/directv-nomad-is-ready-to-launch-transcodes-dvred-shows-for-mob/">for the Nomad transcoder</a> which Android and the iPad lack), in opposition to the usual trend of video streaming apps from cable and satellite TV providers, often for <a href="http://www.engadget.com/2012/04/17/twc-tv-android-app-finally-updated-with-live-tv-streaming/">DRM</a> and <a href="http://www.engadget.com/2012/03/15/netflix-android-app-testing-process/">compatibility</a> reasons. On Google Play the app was still installable on our various tablets and phones alike, although YMMV on what happens when you select the "Watch on Phone" tab to stream from HBO, Cinemax, Starz, Encore or DirecTV Cinema. Of course the usual DVR scheduling and remote control features are still present and accounted for, so hit the link below to grab the free app and try it out yourself.</p><p style="padding:5px;background:#ddd;border:1px solid #ccc;clear:both;"><a href="http://www.engadget.com/2012/04/26/directv-everywhere-android-app-tv-movie-streaming/">DirecTV Everywhere brings streaming movies, TV shows to Android right now, iPhone keeps waiting</a> originally appeared on <a href="http://www.engadget.com">Engadget</a> on Thu, 26 Apr 2012 13:39:00 EST. <a href="http://www.engadget.com/tag/ipad,remote">iPad remote apps</a> are the new Netflix streaming -- any DVR worth its salt has to have one and <a href="http://www.engadget.com/tag/directv">DirecTV</a> isn't going to let <a href="http://www.engadget.com/tag/xfinityremote">Comcast</a>, <a href="http://www.engadget.com/2010/12/21/verizon-fios-mobile-app-hits-ipad-a-virtual-remote-with-no-stre/">FiOS</a>, <a href="http://www.engadget.com/2010/08/04/dish-network-to-offer-live-tv-streaming-on-its-free-mobile-apps/">Dish</a> and <a href="http://www.engadget.com/2011/01/18/tivo-premiere-app-for-ipad-review/">TiVo</a> lord over it anymore. It's launched a preview page for a new remote app "coming soon" that looks like it could challenge for the title with plenty of customizable options and ability to display information from multiple sources at once. The home screen, pictured above can tell you about what you're watching, what's on your favorite channels and keep tabs on current sports scores all at once. All the usual remote control stuff comes natural, as well as local or remote DVR management just like its <a href="http://mobile.engadget.com/2010/02/02/directv-dvr-scheduler-app-celebrates-1-million-iphone-downloads/">mobile app</a>. We'll wait until it comes out to pass judgement but clearly the company has been watching the competition and seeing where it can improve. Now, <a href="http://hd.engadget.com/2011/02/23/directv-announces-record-q4-results-no-word-on-new-hd-channels/">where's that DirecTiVo</a>?<p style="padding:5px;background:#ddd;border:1px solid #ccc;clear:both;"><a href="http://www.engadget.com/2011/02/23/directv-previews-its-ipad-remote-app-no-streaming-but-very-cus/">DirecTV previews its iPad remote app: no streaming, but very customizable</a> originally appeared on <a href="http://www.engadget.com">Engadget</a> on Wed, 23 Feb 2011 19:09:00 EST. If you're familiar with <a href="http://hd.engadget.com/2009/03/30/directv-iphone-app-now-available/">DirecTV's iPhone app</a>, then this fresh Android release should be no stranger as both free apps offer the same handy search and record functionalities. No official requirements published yet, but an educated guess would suggest they'd be the same as the iPhone counterpart. The lucky folks over at <em>DBSTalk</em> have once again had a chance to preview this DirecTV app before it went live on Android Market last night, so either get to downloading or head over now for their dandy walkthrough.<p style="padding:5px;background:#ddd;border:1px solid #ccc;clear:both;"><a href="http://www.engadget.com/2010/01/27/directv-mobile-app-now-live-on-android-market/">DirecTV mobile app now live on Android Market</a> originally appeared on <a href="http://www.engadget.com">Engadget</a> on Wed, 27 Jan 2010 17:47:00 EST. Shockingly enough, people seem to be interested in the possibility of easily browsing TV schedules and programming their <a href="http://www.engadget.com/tag/directv">DirecTV</a> DVR from the <a href="http://www.engadget.com/tag/directv">iPhone / iPod Touch</a>, for free. Available for <a href="http://www.engadgethd.com/2009/03/30/directv-iphone-app-now-available/">just one week</a> so far, it's already ticked over 100,000 downloads so yeah, it's popular, our only question is what's next? You've probably checked it out by now, let us know what features need to be changed or <a href="http://www.engadgethd.com/2009/03/30/directv-iphone-app-now-available/">added</a>, or just tee off on the fact that your TV or cellphone provider hasn't unveiled a similar setup yet, we're listening.<p>Filed under: <a href="http://www.engadget.com/category/software/" rel="tag">Software</a>, <a href="http://www.engadget.com/category/atandt/" rel="tag">ATT</a>, <a href="http://www.engadget.com/category/apple/" rel="tag">Apple</a>, <a href="http://www.engadget.com/category/os-x/" rel="tag">iPhone OS</a></p><p style="padding:5px;background:#ddd;border:1px solid #ccc;clear:both;"><a href="http://www.engadget.com/2009/04/07/directvs-free-iphone-app-manages-100k-downloads-in-a-week/">DirecTV's free iPhone app manages 100k downloads in a week</a> originally appeared on <a href="http://www.engadget.com">Engadget</a> on Tue, 07 Apr 2009 20:11:00 EST. And did we mention that it's free?<p>Filed under: <a href="http://www.engadget.com/category/dvrs/" rel="tag">DVRs</a>, <a href="http://www.engadget.com/category/other-hardware/" rel="tag">Other hardware</a>, <a href="http://www.engadget.com/category/others/" rel="tag">Others</a></p><p style="padding:5px;background:#ddd;border:1px solid #ccc;clear:both;"><a href="http://www.engadget.com/2009/03/30/directv-iphone-app-now-available/">DirecTV iPhone app now available</a> originally appeared on <a href="http://www.engadget.com">Engadget</a> on Mon, 30 Mar 2009 15:21:00 EST. Well, wouldn't you know it -- there <em>is</em> a <a href="http://www.engadgethd.com/2009/02/12/mysterious-directv-iphone-app-appears-imaginations-run-wild/">DirecTV iPhone application</a>. The cats over at <em>DBSTalk</em> have had the privilege of toying with it, and they even assembled a lovely PDF with setup instructions and images of the show search, recording and show cards functionality. For iPhone lovers with DirecTV, there's absolutely no excuse to not check this out. Sadly, we're no closer to figuring out when it'll be available, but we're just relieved to know it'll be here someday.<p>Filed under: <a href="http://www.engadget.com/category/handsets/" rel="tag">Handsets</a>, <a href="http://www.engadget.com/category/software/" rel="tag">Software</a>, <a href="http://www.engadget.com/category/atandt/" rel="tag">ATT</a>, <a href="http://www.engadget.com/category/gsm/" rel="tag">GSM</a>, <a href="http://www.engadget.com/category/edge/" rel="tag">EDGE</a>, <a href="http://www.engadget.com/category/hsdpa/" rel="tag">HSDPA</a>, <a href="http://www.engadget.com/category/apple/" rel="tag">Apple</a>, <a href="http://www.engadget.com/category/os-x/" rel="tag">iPhone OS</a></p><p style="padding:5px;background:#ddd;border:1px solid #ccc;clear:both;"><a href="http://www.engadget.com/2009/03/29/directv-iphone-application-gets-previewed/">DirecTV iPhone application gets previewed</a> originally appeared on <a href="http://www.engadget.com">Engadget</a> on Sun, 29 Mar 2009 22:23:00 EST.
