From the looks of it, the piano-black hardware is mounted vertically onto a brushed metal cantilevered stand that just oozes style. Our vague, uninformed reckonings make us wonder if it's not an art-deco styled <a href="http://www.engadget.com/2010/08/06/asus-eeebox-eb1501p-leaks-out-with-atom-d525-ion-gpu/">EeeBox</a>, a <a href="http://www.engadget.com/2012/01/04/wooden-aerodyne-pc-makes-you-want-to-live-in-rapture/">desktop PC</a> you'd be ashamed to hide under your desk, or the prettiest <a href="http://www.engadget.com/2012/04/26/netgear-r6300-802-11ac-router/">router</a> we've ever seen. Either way, we'll keep our eyes peeled and in the meantime, you can cast your own idle speculation into the comments below.</p><p> <strong>Update: </strong>Ah, and here it is: the <a href="http://www.asus.com/Optical_Storage/External_Slim_Bluray_Drive/SBW06C2XU/">SBW-06C2X-U</a> 3D Blu-ray writer that supports 6X Blu-ray writing speed! We're still waiting on leaked (or official, we're not partial) images to confirm, but based on a presentation slide and a bit of insider information passed on to <i>Notebook Italia</i>, <a href="http://www.engadget.com/tag/ASUS/">ASUS</a> is gearing up to replace its aging <a href="http://www.engadget.com/2009/12/11/asus-eee-box-eb1501-primed-for-479-amazon-pre-order/">EeeBox EB1501</a> with the EB1501P. Reportedly, the box will be based around Intel's dual-core Atom D525 processor and will feature NVIDIA's <a href="http://www.engadget.com/tag/Ion/">Ion</a> GPU, a 250GB hard drive, 2GB of DDR3 memory, 802.11n WiFi, an HDMI output, six USB sockets and Bluetooth. That aligns quite nicely with the <a href="http://www.engadget.com/2010/03/05/asus-eeebox-eb1501u-packs-ion-and-usb-3-0-need-we-say-more/">EB1501U</a> (shown above) that we spotted back at CeBIT, which has yet to launch in any capacity since. A proper introduction at <a href="http://www.engadget.com/tag/IFA/">IFA</a>, perhaps? We'll be watching, ASUS.<p style="padding:5px;background:#ddd;border:1px solid #ccc;clear:both;"><a href="http://www.engadget.com/2010/08/06/asus-eeebox-eb1501p-leaks-out-with-atom-d525-ion-gpu/">ASUS' EeeBox EB1501P leaks out with Atom D525, Ion GPU</a> originally appeared on <a href="http://www.engadget.com">Engadget</a> on Fri, 06 Aug 2010 23:04:00 EST. If you're looking for a <a href="http://www.engadget.com/tag/nettop">nettop</a> without all the fussy ability to play high definition content, ASUS's upcoming EeeBox EB1007 might be your ticket to standard-definition minimalism. According to <em>Netbooked</em>, the vanilla desktop was said at <a href="http://www.engadget.com/tag/cebit">CeBIT</a> to be HD-capable, but what we're seeing on the company's site doesn't appear to be, packing the new Intel <a href="http://www.engadget.com/tag/d410">Atom D410</a> processor, 1GB of DDR2 memory, 160GB of storage, three USB 2.0 ports, all topped off with 802.11b/g/n WiFi. No word on when it'll be available or how much it will cost when it does, but it should certainly slot in under the $387 <a href="http://www.engadget.com/tag/eb1012">EB1012</a>. <br />

<div style="text-align: left;">Well, Newegg just seems to be full of <a href="http://www.engadget.com/2010/03/07/newegg-sells-300-counterfeit-core-i7-920-cpus-is-now-investiga/">surprises</a> these days. The latest example is this ASUS Eee Box (model EBXB202-BLK-E0037), which wouldn't be so remarkable if not for the fact that it comes pre-installed with the Chinese Linux distribution, Red Flag Linux. That helps bring the price down to just $189.99 after rebate, which also gets you the usual Atom N270 processor, 1GB of RAM, a 160GB hard drive, and the standard Intel integrated graphics. No word on the whole back story here, but it looks like this may well be the only readily available Red Flag Linux-based system available in the US right now.<br />

Sure NVIDIA's Ion 2 is all the rage right now, but <a href="http://www.engadget.com/tag/ASUS/">ASUS</a> still has a few tricks left in store for the progenitor nettop GPU. The EeeBox EB1501U sports a typical nettop processor -- in this case, the older Diamondville Intel Atom 330 dual core -- with Ion One, and as an added bonus, there's <a href="http://www.engadget.com/tag/USB30/">USB 3.0</a> support. Also under the hood? A 2.5-inch, 320GB HDD, DVD drive, and 802.11b/g/n WiFi. As for the other home theater PC box, the EeeMedia EM0501 isn't quite as exciting -- just a 800MHz Samsung ARM processor, a variety of codec supports, and HDMI out. Still, given history, it's a pretty solid addition. Pricing and availability? Your guess is as good as ours for now. Enjoy the pictures for the time being. <div class="postgallery"><p><strong>Gallery: <a href="http://www.engadget.com/photos/asus-eb1501u-hands-on/">ASUS EB1501U hands-on</a></strong></p><a href="http://www.engadget.com/photos/asus-eb1501u-hands-on/#2773486"><img src="http://www.blogcdn.com/www.engadget.com/media/2010/03/eb1501-hands-2010-03-0309-07-11-rm-eng_thumbnail.jpg" alt="" title="" /></a><a href="http://www.engadget.com/photos/asus-eb1501u-hands-on/#2773490"><img src="http://www.blogcdn.com/www.engadget.com/media/2010/03/eb1501-hands-2010-03-0309-07-23-rm-eng_thumbnail.jpg" alt="" title="" /></a><a href="http://www.engadget.com/photos/asus-eb1501u-hands-on/#2773491"><img src="http://www.blogcdn.com/www.engadget.com/media/2010/03/eb1501-hands-2010-03-0309-07-34-rm-eng_thumbnail.jpg" alt="" title="" /></a><a href="http://www.engadget.com/photos/asus-eb1501u-hands-on/#2773492"><img src="http://www.blogcdn.com/www.engadget.com/media/2010/03/eb1501-hands-2010-03-0309-07-41-rm-eng_thumbnail.jpg" alt="" title="" /></a><a href="http://www.engadget.com/photos/asus-eb1501u-hands-on/#2773495"><img src="http://www.blogcdn.com/www.engadget.com/media/2010/03/eb1501-hands-2010-03-0309-07-49-rm-eng_thumbnail.jpg" alt="" title="" /></a></div> <div class="postgallery"><p><strong>Gallery: <a href="http://www.engadget.com/photos/asus-em0501-hands-on/">ASUS EM0501 hands-on</a></strong></p><a href="http://www.engadget.com/photos/asus-em0501-hands-on/#2773559"><img src="http://www.blogcdn.com/www.engadget.com/media/2010/03/em0501-hands-2010-03-0309-02-12-rm-eng_thumbnail.jpg" alt="" title="" /></a><a href="http://www.engadget.com/photos/asus-em0501-hands-on/#2773561"><img src="http://www.blogcdn.com/www.engadget.com/media/2010/03/em0501-hands-2010-03-0309-03-07-rm-eng_thumbnail.jpg" alt="" title="" /></a><a href="http://www.engadget.com/photos/asus-em0501-hands-on/#2773562"><img src="http://www.blogcdn.com/www.engadget.com/media/2010/03/em0501-hands-2010-03-0309-03-29-rm-eng_thumbnail.jpg" alt="" title="" /></a><a href="http://www.engadget.com/photos/asus-em0501-hands-on/#2773563"><img src="http://www.blogcdn.com/www.engadget.com/media/2010/03/em0501-hands-2010-03-0309-04-42-rm-eng_thumbnail.jpg" alt="" title="" /></a><a href="http://www.engadget.com/photos/asus-em0501-hands-on/#2773564"><img src="http://www.blogcdn.com/www.engadget.com/media/2010/03/em0501-hands-2010-03-0309-04-55-rm-eng_thumbnail.jpg" alt="" title="" /></a></div><p style="padding:5px;background:#ddd;border:1px solid #ccc;clear:both;"><a href="http://www.engadget.com/2010/03/05/asus-eeebox-eb1501u-packs-ion-and-usb-3-0-need-we-say-more/">ASUS' EeeBox EB1501U packs ION and USB 3.0, need we say more?</a> originally appeared on <a href="http://www.engadget.com">Engadget</a> on Fri, 05 Mar 2010 18:38:00 EST. Good news, everybody! If you're looking into one of Asus's <a href="http://www.engadget.com/tag/eee+box">Eee Box 1501</a> nettops but weren't exactly into the built-in DVD burner, well, better days may be ahead. It looks like a new version of the 1501 is on its way, this time packing Blu-ray. In case you've forgotten the specs, the Eee Box 1501 packs NVIDIA's Ion chipset, an Intel Atom 330 dual-core CPU, 2GB of RAM, a 250GB hard drive, and an HDMI port for good measure. There's no official word on this yet, but the release of the Blu-ray boasting updated nettop looks likely for Switzerland in the near future, so we'll keep our eyes peeled for more information.<p style="padding:5px;background:#ddd;border:1px solid #ccc;clear:both;"><a href="http://www.engadget.com/2010/01/13/asus-eee-box-1501-with-blu-ray-on-its-way-to-switzerland/">Asus Eee Box 1501 with Blu-ray on its way to Switzerland</a> originally appeared on <a href="http://www.engadget.com">Engadget</a> on Wed, 13 Jan 2010 18:39:00 EST. Well, would you look at that? Materializing after the fog of CES, <a href="http://www.engadget.com/2009/09/01/asus-eeebox-eb1012-teases-home-theaters-with-dual-core-atom-and/">ASUS' Eee Box EB1012-B0257</a> nettop, known colloquially as "the low-cost home theater PC we've been longing for," has popped up on Amazon. In case you forgot, this little guy's packing Intel's 1.6GHz Dual Core N330 Atom processor, NVIDIA Ion, 2GB RAM, 160GB HDD, Windows 7, HDMI out, 802.11b/g/n, and a sextet of USB 2.0 ports. Still no release date but at least we have a better idea as to its cost of entry: $399, with a 3 percent / $12 discount care of the online retailer. Only color being shown right now is a sleek black, but as we saw last time, there should be a white model in the pipeline for some point in the indeterminable future.<br />

We'd been wondering when ASUS' NVIDIA Ion and optical drive packing <a href="http://www.engadget.com/2009/12/04/asus-eee-box-eb1501-gets-unboxed/">Eee Box EB1501 would touch down</a> on US soil, and lo and behold today it's showing face for all those eager enough to pre-order. The device is available at Amazon for not a dollar less than $479 (though it does have free shipping), and if <a href="http://www.engadget.com/2009/10/01/asus-eeebox-eb1501-comes-packing-windows-7-atom-330/">you'll recall</a>, the box is boasting a 1.6GHz Intel Atom dual core N330, NVIDIA Ion graphics, 2GB of RAM, a 250GB hard drive. All that and you get Windows 7 Home Premium rather than the ever-graying Windows XP. Of course, if you're looking for all that in a mobile form factor you can always wait on the $499 <a href="http://www.engadget.com/2009/12/04/asus-eee-pc-seashell-1201n-ion-based-ready-for-500-amazon-pre-o/">ASUS Eee PC 1201N</a>, but for set-top duty, feel free to unleash the credit card right now.<p style="padding:5px;background:#ddd;border:1px solid #ccc;clear:both;"><a href="http://www.engadget.com/2009/12/11/asus-eee-box-eb1501-primed-for-479-amazon-pre-order/">ASUS Eee Box EB1501 primed for $479 Amazon pre-order</a> originally appeared on <a href="http://www.engadget.com">Engadget</a> on Fri, 11 Dec 2009 17:58:00 EST. With that fancy disc drive, NVIDIA Ion under the hood, and considerable aesthetic improvements, the <a href="http://www.engadget.com/2009/10/01/asus-eeebox-eb1501-comes-packing-windows-7-atom-330/">Eee Box EB1501</a> has seemingly little to do with the Asus <a href="http://www.engadget.com/tag/EeeBox/">Eee Box</a> of yore. So, is it as stunning in person as it is on paper? The folks at Blogeee.net have unwrapped the thing and stood it on its fancy metal stand, and they seem to be digging it -- of course, their impressions are written in French, so we can never be entirely sure. Now if only Asus could work in an internal Blu-ray drive we'd be set! Hands-on video is after the break.<p><a href="http://www.engadget.com/2009/12/04/asus-eee-box-eb1501-gets-unboxed/" rel="bookmark">Continue reading <em>Asus Eee Box EB1501 gets unBoxed</em></a></p><p style="padding:5px;background:#ddd;border:1px solid #ccc;clear:both;"><a href="http://www.engadget.com/2009/12/04/asus-eee-box-eb1501-gets-unboxed/">Asus Eee Box EB1501 gets unBoxed</a> originally appeared on <a href="http://www.engadget.com">Engadget</a> on Fri, 04 Dec 2009 03:29:00 EST. <div align="left">We just caught a glimpse of ASUS' <a href="http://www.engadget.com/2009/09/01/asus-eeebox-eb1012-teases-home-theaters-with-dual-core-atom-and/">EeeBox EB1012</a> nettop last month, but it looks like the company is already doing things one better with its new, redesigned EB1501 model. As before, this one packs the increasingly common one-two punch of NVIDIA's Ion chipset and Intel's Atom 333 dual-core processor, but makes its mark by being the first EeeBox (and one of the first nettops) to come pre-loaded with Windows 7, which also means it's not shipping until the end of the month. Otherwise, you'll get the usual 2GB of RAM (expandable to 4GB) and 250GB hard drive, a built-in DVD burner, and an HDMI port to make it feel right at home in your home theater. No official pricing over here just yet, but it looks like this one will start at &euro;399 (or about $580) when it hits Europe.<br />

Looks like our dreams of a discrete, low cost home theater PC are about to be realized. ASUS has a new EeeBox PC EB1012 touting a dual-core Atom N330 (<a href="http://www.engadget.com/2009/06/01/asus-preparing-nvidia-ion-based-eee-box-b1006/">just as rumored</a>), NVIDIA MCP7A ION graphics, a 250GB SATA hard disk, 2GB of DDR2-800 memory expandable to 4GB, gigabit Ethernet, 802.11n WiFi, S/PDIF 5.1 audio jack, and HDMI out. As such, this little 222 x 178 x 26.9mm box should handle your hardware accelerated 1080p content just as readily as it does full-screen Flash video from Hulu and beyond -- a place where <a href="http://www.engadget.com/2009/04/28/acer-aspirerevo-review/">single-core Atom-based Ion nettops fail</a>. It also features an eSATA jack, 4x USB ports, and an SDHC card reader for plugging in more media. No word on price or ship date but we'll keep an eye out. <br /><br />[Via <a href="http://www.ehomeupgrade.com/2009/08/31/asus-eeebox-pc-now-sporting-an-intel-atom-n330-processor-and-nvidia-ion-graphics/">eHomeUpgrade</a>]<p>Filed under: <a href="http://www.engadget.com/category/industry/" rel="tag">Industry</a>, <a href="http://www.engadget.com/category/set-top-boxes/" rel="tag">Set-top boxes</a></p><p style="padding:5px;background:#ddd;border:1px solid #ccc;clear:both;"><a href="http://www.engadget.com/2009/09/01/asus-eeebox-eb1012-teases-home-theaters-with-dual-core-atom-and/">ASUS EeeBox EB1012 teases home theaters with dual-core Atom and Ion graphics</a> originally appeared on <a href="http://www.engadget.com">Engadget</a> on Tue, 01 Sep 2009 05:41:00 EST. After seeing rumored launch dates <a href="http://www.engadget.com/2009/05/14/asus-eee-keyboard-to-launch-by-end-of-june/">come</a> and <a href="http://www.engadget.com/2009/06/25/asus-eee-keyboard-now-on-track-for-august-launch/">go</a>, out pops another, this time from <em>DigiTimes</em> and its Taiwanese industry sources who tend to be <a href="http://www.engadget.com/tag/digitimes,asus">pretty accurate</a> with hometown ASUS' plans. The date? October, with a price set to run between $400 and $500. <br /><br /><em>DigiTimes</em> also claims that the NVIDIA <a href="http://www.engadget.com/2009/06/01/asus-preparing-nvidia-ion-based-eee-box-b1006/">Ion-based Eee Box</a> should arrive in September as will that <a href="http://www.engadget.com/2009/08/18/asus-ion-based-eee-top-et2002t-makes-itself-known-in-france/">20-inch Eee Top</a>. Ion's a good start, but if they <a href="http://www.engadget.com/2009/04/28/acer-aspirerevo-review/">shackle it to an Intel Atom 230</a> processor and once again bludgeon our dreams of a low-cost home theater PC capable of handling full-screen Flash video, well, somebody's going to get hurt. Ion-based Eee PC netbooks are coming too, but those don't have a production schedule yet according to the Taiwanese tattle-rag.<p>Filed under: <a href="http://www.engadget.com/category/desktops/" rel="tag">Desktops</a></p><p style="padding:5px;background:#ddd;border:1px solid #ccc;clear:both;"><a href="http://www.engadget.com/2009/06/01/asus-preparing-nvidia-ion-based-eee-box-b1006/">ASUS preparing NVIDIA Ion-based Eee Box B1006?</a> originally appeared on <a href="http://www.engadget.com">Engadget</a> on Mon, 01 Jun 2009 07:34:00 EST. If we're to believe a pre-sales agent's response to a query about the availability of the <a href="http://www.engadget.com/2009/03/17/asus-eeebox-pc-b208-with-dual-core-atom-and-hd-4350-graphics-un/">EeeBox PC B208</a>, then ASUS' little HD nettop with dual-core Atom 330 processor, ATI Radeon HD 4530 graphics, and HDMI-out should pop for retail in June -- for the UK anyway. A box that looks to be the ideal low-cost ($500ish), quiet (26dB), home theater PC riding your in-house 802.11n WiFi or gigabit Ethernet network. With Acer's Ion-powered <a href="http://www.engadget.com/tag/aspirerevo">AspireRevo</a> hitting the UK in May, ASUS had better hope for a June launch at the latest. <br /><br />[Thanks, Thomas C.]<p style="padding:5px;background:#ddd;border:1px solid #ccc;clear:both;"><a href="http://www.engadget.com/2009/04/23/asus-eeebox-pc-b208-with-discrete-graphics-hdmi-out-in-june/">ASUS EeeBox PC B208 with discrete graphics, HDMI-out in June?</a> originally appeared on <a href="http://www.engadget.com">Engadget</a> on Thu, 23 Apr 2009 08:59:00 EST. Funny. After making a brief appearance on ASUS' website, its top-end EeeBox PC B208 disappeared. Fortunately, there's Google cache. The B208 trumps ASUS' <a href="http://www.engadget.com/2009/03/04/asus-rolls-out-hd-minded-eee-box-206/">B206</a> by slapping a dual-core, 1.6GHz Atom 330 processor into the slim, <a href="http://www.engadget.com/2009/03/05/hdmi-equipped-asus-eee-box-206-eyes-on/">monitor-riding slab</a> as well as 256MB of ATI Radeon Hd 4350 graphics. That should help make the most of the built-in HDMI port and 320GB hard disk (plus 4x USB 2.0) should you like to use the little guy as a make-shift 802.11n / gigabit Ethernet media server (buzzing along at 26dB) on your home network. No price given but we expect it to pop for less than 500 bucks, eventually.<br /><br />[Thanks, Brad]<p>Filed under: <a href="http://www.engadget.com/category/desktops/" rel="tag">Desktops</a>, <a href="http://www.engadget.com/category/mediapcs/" rel="tag">Media PCs</a></p><p style="padding:5px;background:#ddd;border:1px solid #ccc;clear:both;"><a href="http://www.engadget.com/2009/03/17/asus-eeebox-pc-b208-with-dual-core-atom-and-hd-4350-graphics-un/">ASUS EeeBox PC B208 with dual-core Atom and HD 4350 graphics un-announced</a> originally appeared on <a href="http://www.engadget.com">Engadget</a> on Tue, 17 Mar 2009 09:02:00 EST. A number of you bemoaned the fact that MSI's WindBOX <a href="http://www.engadget.com/2009/03/05/msi-windbox-dismounts-lcd-acts-all-proper-at-cebit/">lacked an oh-so-necessary HDMI port</a>, so maybe the better option for you is an LCD mounted <a href="http://www.engadget.com/2009/03/04/asus-rolls-out-hd-minded-eee-box-206/">Eee Box 206</a>. Yep, the HD-minded mini PC was set up here in Hannover, with one of the units hosted up nicely on the rear of a flat-panel monitor. The fit was flush and the connections were easily accessible, so those looking for a nice, if not underpowered media center should definitely give this one a glance. Speaking of glances, you do cast some right now in the gallery below.<br /><div class="postgallery"><p><strong>Gallery: <a href="http://www.engadget.com/photos/hdmi-equipped-asus-eee-box-206-eyes-on/">HDMI-equipped ASUS Eee Box 206 eyes-on</a></strong></p><a href="http://www.engadget.com/photos/hdmi-equipped-asus-eee-box-206-eyes-on/#1411497"><img src="http://www.blogcdn.com/www.engadget.com/media/2009/03/asus-eee-box-206-cebit_2469_thumbnail.jpg" alt="" title="" /></a><a href="http://www.engadget.com/photos/hdmi-equipped-asus-eee-box-206-eyes-on/#1411522"><img src="http://www.blogcdn.com/www.engadget.com/media/2009/03/asus-eee-box-206-cebit_2470_thumbnail.jpg" alt="" title="" /></a><a href="http://www.engadget.com/photos/hdmi-equipped-asus-eee-box-206-eyes-on/#1411517"><img src="http://www.blogcdn.com/www.engadget.com/media/2009/03/asus-eee-box-206-cebit_2471_thumbnail.jpg" alt="" title="" /></a><a href="http://www.engadget.com/photos/hdmi-equipped-asus-eee-box-206-eyes-on/#1411509"><img src="http://www.blogcdn.com/www.engadget.com/media/2009/03/asus-eee-box-206-cebit_2472_thumbnail.jpg" alt="" title="" /></a><a href="http://www.engadget.com/photos/hdmi-equipped-asus-eee-box-206-eyes-on/#1411511"><img src="http://www.blogcdn.com/www.engadget.com/media/2009/03/asus-eee-box-206-cebit_2473_thumbnail.jpg" alt="" title="" /></a></div><p>Filed under: <a href="http://www.engadget.com/category/desktops/" rel="tag">Desktops</a></p><p style="padding:5px;background:#ddd;border:1px solid #ccc;clear:both;"><a href="http://www.engadget.com/2009/03/05/hdmi-equipped-asus-eee-box-206-eyes-on/">HDMI-equipped ASUS Eee Box 206 eyes-on</a> originally appeared on <a href="http://www.engadget.com">Engadget</a> on Thu, 05 Mar 2009 17:59:00 EST. <div align="left">ASUS first got official with its upgraded <a href="http://www.engadget.com/2008/12/03/asus-eee-box-b204-b206-grows-an-hdmi-port-handles-high-def-ma/">Eee Box 206</a> way back in December, but the nettop is just now finally rolling out into availability (in the UK, at least), and bringing with it a number of more HD-friendly features. That, of course, includes an HDMI port, and some ATI Radeon HD 3450 graphics to ensure that your HD videos play without a hitch, though serious gaming is certainly still a bit of a stretch. Otherwise, you can expect the usual 1.6GHz Atom N270 processor, 1GB of RAM, a 160GB hard drive (plus 10GB of ASUS' Eee online storage service), a fairly generous complement of ports (including DVI) and, of particular note, a total power consumption of just 20 watts. Still no official word on a release 'round here, it seems, but folks in the UK can pick this one up now in their choice of black or white for &pound;310, or just under $440.<br /></div>

If your <a href="http://www.engadget.com/tag/EeeBox/">Eee Box</a> experience is lacking something that you can't quite put your finger on, we're 85.32% sure we know what'll fill that void. According to <em>Eee PC News</em>, ASUS is gearing up to ship an <a href="http://www.engadget.com/tag/Eee/">Eee</a>-branded wireless keyboard / mouse combo in both black and white motifs, and if that's still not enough Eee to cure your fever, the multi-function remote should handle those media center duties with ease. There's no mention of a price or release date, so we suppose you should assume these are completely fictional until proven otherwise.<p>Filed under: <a href="http://www.engadget.com/category/peripherals/" rel="tag">Peripherals</a></p><p style="padding:5px;background:#ddd;border:1px solid #ccc;clear:both;"><a href="http://www.engadget.com/2008/12/26/asus-offers-up-branded-keyboard-mouse-combo-remote-for-eee-bo/">ASUS offers up branded keyboard / mouse combo, remote for Eee Box</a> originally appeared on <a href="http://www.engadget.com">Engadget</a> on Fri, 26 Dec 2008 13:03:00 EST. <div align="left">It looks like all those crazy rumors are true -- we've just received word that the Celeron-based Eee Box B203 has popped up on Asus' website. Aside from the the Intel C220 processor, very little has changed from the Atom-based <a href="http://www.engadget.com/tag/EeeBoxB202/">Eee Box B202</a>: it sports Windows XP Home, ships with up to 2GB RAM and 160GB storage, and measures a diminutive 222 x 178 x 26.9 mm (roughly 8.7 x 7 x 1 inches). Of course, it still ain't the prettiest device we've ever seen -- but if it's cheaper, faster, and small enough to fit behind your monitor anyways, we'll gladly overlook the paint job.<br /><br />[Via <a href="http://www.liliputing.com/2008/12/asus-rolls-out-celeron-powered-eee-box.html">Liliputing</a>]</div>

Man, talk about maturing early. ASUS' <a href="http://www.engadget.com/tag/EeeBox/">Eee Box</a> just <a href="http://www.engadget.com/2008/08/08/asus-eee-box-available-stateside-yours-for-350/">hit the shelves</a> here in America a few months back, and now the company is already pushing out a pair of successors. Both the Eee Box B204 and B206 retain the same overall design and <a href="http://www.engadget.com/2008/06/20/asus-gets-official-with-atom-powered-eee-box/">processor</a> (1.6GHz Intel Atom N270), but you will find a 256MB ATI Radeon HD 3400 GPU to complement the 1GB of RAM, 160GB SATA II hard drive, multicard reader, 802.11n WiFi, Windows XP Home, 10GB of online Eee Storage, gigabit Ethernet, four USB 2.0 ports, DVI connector and the freshly added HDMI socket. The B204 trumps the B206 (weird, right?) with the inclusion of Bluetooth and a built-in battery that acts as a UPS in case of power failure. We've already seen <a href="http://www.engadget.com/2008/08/15/asus-eee-box-b202-detailed-and-tested-on-video/">just how decently</a> the B202 could handle 1080p playback; it's just that much easier with a dedicated HDMI port. As is par for the course with ASUS, there's nary a mention of price / availability.<p>Filed under: <a href="http://www.engadget.com/category/media-pcs/" rel="tag">Media PCs</a>, <a href="http://www.engadget.com/category/ports/" rel="tag">Ports</a>, <a href="http://www.engadget.com/category/others/" rel="tag">Others</a></p><p style="padding:5px;background:#ddd;border:1px solid #ccc;clear:both;"><a href="http://www.engadget.com/2008/12/03/asus-eee-box-b204-b206-grows-an-hdmi-port-handles-high-def-ma/">ASUS Eee Box B204 / B206 grows an HDMI port, handles high-def material</a> originally appeared on <a href="http://www.engadget.com">Engadget</a> on Wed, 03 Dec 2008 08:35:00 EST. As is par for the course with ASUS, there's nary a mention of price / availability.<p>Filed under: <a href="http://www.engadget.com/category/desktops/" rel="tag">Desktops</a>, <a href="http://www.engadget.com/category/mediapcs/" rel="tag">Media PCs</a></p><p style="padding:5px;background:#ddd;border:1px solid #ccc;clear:both;"><a href="http://www.engadget.com/2008/12/03/asus-eee-box-b204-b206-grows-an-hdmi-port-handles-high-def-ma/">ASUS Eee Box B204 / B206 grows an HDMI port, handles high-def material</a> originally appeared on <a href="http://www.engadget.com">Engadget</a> on Wed, 03 Dec 2008 08:35:00 EST. Uh oh. ASUS just issued a recall for all <a href="http://www.engadget.com/tag/eee%20box">Eee Box</a> PCs sold in Japan due to a nasty pre-installed worm. The malicious code dubbed "recycled.exe" may attempt to download additional malware while attempting to replicate itself to attached USB storage devices at the first opportunity. Of course, this isn't the first time that ASUS has been embarrassed by its image burns. Who could forget the <a href="http://www.engadget.com/2008/09/18/asus-shipping-illegal-keygen-crack-and-confidential-docs-with-so/">the illegal keygen and confidential documentation</a> shipped on those brand new laptops last month? Apparently, only ASUS who has yet to clean house. <br /><br />[Via <a href="http://www.theinquirer.net/gb/inquirer/news/2008/10/14/asus-eee-box-virus-triggers">The Inquirer</a>]<p>Filed under: <a href="http://www.engadget.com/category/desktops/" rel="tag">Desktops</a></p><p style="padding:5px;background:#ddd;border:1px solid #ccc;clear:both;"><a href="http://www.engadget.com/2008/10/14/asus-pre-installs-japanese-eee-box-pcs-with-worm-issues-recall/">ASUS pre-installs Japanese Eee Box PCs with worm, issues recall</a> originally appeared on <a href="http://www.engadget.com">Engadget</a> on Tue, 14 Oct 2008 07:29:00 EST. It's one thing to see a device <a href="http://www.engadget.com/2008/08/01/asus-eee-box-gets-unboxed/">unboxed in pictures</a>, but we all know a video tells a million (give or take a few) words. <em>HotHardware</em>'s Dave Altavilla has posted up a sub-5 minute clip detailing the ins and outs of ASUS' <a href="http://www.engadget.com/tag/EeeBox/">Eee Box B202</a>, and even from an enthusiast of all things cutting-edge, he was pretty impressed by the Atom-powered machine. The most interesting bit is probably the <a href="http://www.engadget.com/2008/08/04/via-nano-trounces-intel-atom-in-hd-video-playback-not-quite/">video playback test</a>; we won't spoil how it handled (or mishandled) 1080p playback for you -- jump on past the break and have a look for yourself.<p><a href="http://www.engadget.com/2008/08/15/asus-eee-box-b202-detailed-and-tested-on-video/" rel="bookmark">Continue reading <em>ASUS Eee Box B202 detailed and tested on video</em></a></p><p>Filed under: <a href="http://www.engadget.com/category/desktops/" rel="tag">Desktops</a></p><p style="padding:5px;background:#ddd;border:1px solid #ccc;clear:both;"><a href="http://www.engadget.com/2008/08/15/asus-eee-box-b202-detailed-and-tested-on-video/">ASUS Eee Box B202 detailed and tested on video</a> originally appeared on <a href="http://www.engadget.com">Engadget</a> on Fri, 15 Aug 2008 11:23:00 EST. There are cheaper computers out there, and even smaller computers out there, but the ASUS <a href="http://www.engadget.com/tag/EeeBox/">Eee Box</a> seems to strike a similar chord to that of its laptop counterpart -- solid minimalism, just a dash of design sense, and a lovable price point. J&amp;R has started selling a $350 version the computer in the States, complete with Windows XP, a 1.6GHz Atom processor, WiFi, memory card reader, 1GB of RAM and an 80GB hard drive. We're especially into the prospect of quick-boot Express Gate Linux tomfoolery, with a seven second boot time all that's keeping us from web browsing, Skype and IM -- oh, and buying one. Black and white versions are available now.<br /><br />[Thanks, Mike]<p>Filed under: <a href="http://www.engadget.com/category/desktops/" rel="tag">Desktops</a></p><p style="padding:5px;background:#ddd;border:1px solid #ccc;clear:both;"><a href="http://www.engadget.com/2008/08/08/asus-eee-box-available-stateside-yours-for-350/">ASUS Eee Box available Stateside, yours for $350</a> originally appeared on <a href="http://www.engadget.com">Engadget</a> on Fri, 08 Aug 2008 11:48:00 EST. <div align="left">ASUS has hardly been keeping this one a secret, but the company has only just now finally gotten completely official with its <a href="http://www.engadget.com/tag/eeestick">Eee Stick</a> gaming controller, and it's taken the opportunity to drop a few new details about it. That includes word that the device will be "bundled exclusively" with "certain models" of the Eee PC and Eee Box (which doesn't exactly narrow things down), and that it'll come with a collection of games that have been designed specifically for it (we're not getting our hopes up there). Otherwise, ASUS has confirmed that the device operates on the 2.4GHz frequency, which could be interesting depending on what other wireless devices you have nearby, and that each stick will require a pair of AA batteries, which ASUS says will give you three days of continuous use, and no doubt a good deal longer if you want to avoid a trip to the hospital.<br /><br />[Via <a href="http://www.shinyshiny.tv/2008/08/eee_gaming_come.html">Shiny Shiny</a>]</div>

So, can a <a href="http://www.engadget.com/2008/08/01/asus-eee-box-gets-unboxed/">$299 mini desktop</a> really find a place in your jaded heart? Based on a recent review by <em>HotHardware</em>, the answer is a resounding "yes." In terms of general performance, the box delivered more potency than critics expected, and the hardware within was able to provide a "a fluid experience in all but the full 1080p digital video playback test." Of note, it didn't have any trouble churning through a 720p clip, so there's still hope for folks obsessed with flipping through HD trailers for hours on end. Furthermore, the unit was found to be remarkably energy efficient, with only "a slightly heavier draw than an Eee PC 900." Of course, we wouldn't expect this to replace your Alienware or anything, but for the most average of tasks, the <a href="http://www.engadget.com/tag/eeebox">B202</a> should be adequate enough. That helpfully not only includes the usual pictures of the always-fascinating unboxing process, but some comparison shots with an Eee PC 901, which is about the same size, and a PlayStation 3, which could crush the Eee Box without so much as breaking a sweat. With a name like instant-on, it just has to be quick, right? Well, sort of. The cool cats over at <em>Laptop</em> paradoxically got to play with ASUS latest <a href="http://www.engadget.com/2008/05/29/devicevms-splashtop-comes-to-asus-laptops-as-express-gate/">ExpressGate</a>-equipped desktop, the <a href="http://www.engadget.com/2008/06/20/asus-gets-official-with-atom-powered-eee-box/">Eee Box</a>. Upon mashing the power button and clicking the stopwatch, it took 11 seconds to get to the main ExpressGate page, where users could select the browser, photo viewer, Pidgin chat or Skype button. Upon clicking browser, they found that it took 25 more seconds to push through and get Firefox up and running, putting the grand total for quick clickers at 35 seconds from startup to being on the web. Hit the read link for more coverage of the ExpressGate Olympics, complete with a video that takes 1 to 10 seconds to load depending on connection speed.<p>Filed under: <a href="http://www.engadget.com/category/desktops/" rel="tag">Desktops</a></p><p style="padding:5px;background:#ddd;border:1px solid #ccc;clear:both;"><a href="http://www.engadget.com/2008/07/18/expressgate-instant-on-os-tested-on-asus-eee-box/">ExpressGate "instant-on" OS tested on ASUS Eee Box</a> originally appeared on <a href="http://www.engadget.com">Engadget</a> on Fri, 18 Jul 2008 04:15:00 EST. We know pretty much everything about <a href="http://www.engadget.com/2008/06/20/asus-gets-official-with-atom-powered-eee-box/">Asus' Atom-powered Eee Box</a> -- we even have a bevvy of <a href="http://www.engadget.com/2008/06/25/more-details-and-press-shots-of-asus-eee-box/">pretty pictures</a> -- but as of yet we didn't know exactly how much the little bugger was going to cost. Fret not, for we now can tell you that the Wii-like computer will cost &pound;199 ($392) -- including keyboard and mouse -- and will pack an 80GB HDD and a DVI out. It will come with Windows XP Home pre-installed while those two USB ports are confirmed. No word yet on stateside pricing and release date, but we'll keep our eyes open.<br /><br />[Thanks, Joe]<p>Filed under: <a href="http://www.engadget.com/category/desktops/" rel="tag">Desktops</a></p><p style="padding:5px;background:#ddd;border:1px solid #ccc;clear:both;"><a href="http://www.engadget.com/2008/07/08/eee-box-gets-price-and-package-details/">Eee box gets price and package details</a> originally appeared on <a href="http://www.engadget.com">Engadget</a> on Tue, 08 Jul 2008 10:32:00 EST. In typical ASUS style, it utterly failed in dishing out a nice gallery of press shots to go along with the <a href="http://www.engadget.com/2008/06/20/asus-gets-official-with-atom-powered-eee-box/">official unveiling</a> of the Atom-powered Eee Box. Well, what do you know? Those <a href="http://www.engadget.com/2008/06/02/final-specifications-revealed-for-asus-eee-box-b202/">rumored specifications</a> for ASUS' not-secret-at-all <a href="http://www.engadget.com/tag/eee%20box">Eee Box</a> were spot on. The outfit has just now gotten around to getting official with said mini PC, which checks in with a 1.6GHz Intel Atom N270 processor, 1GB of DDR2 RAM, an 80GB hard drive, multicard reader, 802.11n WiFi and gigabit Ethernet. As predicted, you'll find Windows XP Home running the show, and ASUS is spicing things up by tossing its newly unveiled <a href="http://www.engadget.com/tag/express+gate/">Express Gate</a> fast boot technology on here too. There's nary a mention of a price or release date, but that's pretty much par for the course with this company.<p>Filed under: <a href="http://www.engadget.com/category/desktops/" rel="tag">Desktops</a></p><p style="padding:5px;background:#ddd;border:1px solid #ccc;clear:both;"><a href="http://www.engadget.com/2008/06/20/asus-gets-official-with-atom-powered-eee-box/">ASUS gets official with Atom-powered Eee Box</a> originally appeared on <a href="http://www.engadget.com">Engadget</a> on Fri, 20 Jun 2008 13:27:00 EST. The week of Computex 2008 has begun, and you'd probably know just by checking out the onslaught of <a href="http://www.engadget.com/tag/ASUS/">ASUS</a> news here lately. Up next is the hotly-debated <a href="http://www.engadget.com/2008/05/29/asus-ebox-cracked-open-for-world-to-see-previewed/">Eee Box B202</a>, which we now know the final specifications for -- reportedly, at least. <em>HotHardware</em> has it that the mini desktop will exhibit a 1.6GHz Intel Atom N270 processor, a 80/120/160/250GB hard drive, GMA 950 integrated graphics set, gigabit Ethernet, WiFi, optional Bluetooth, a multicard reader, 512MB/1GB/2GB of DDR2 RAM and an Azalia ALC888 audio chip; you'll also find a pair of USB 2.0 ports, DVI out and a headphone jack, but an optical drive is altogether missing. We're hearing that US configurations will range from $269 to $299 with your choice of Linux or Windows XP, with availability in mid-July.<p>Filed under: <a href="http://www.engadget.com/category/desktops/" rel="tag">Desktops</a></p><p style="padding:5px;background:#ddd;border:1px solid #ccc;clear:both;"><a href="http://www.engadget.com/2008/06/02/final-specifications-revealed-for-asus-eee-box-b202/">Final specifications revealed for ASUS Eee Box B202?</a> originally appeared on <a href="http://www.engadget.com">Engadget</a> on Mon, 02 Jun 2008 08:45:00 EST. Okay, so this isn't the finalized SKU or anything (it's an "early sample," if you must know), but it's close enough to the <a href="http://www.engadget.com/2008/05/25/rumors-indicate-eee-box-will-be-called-ebox-coming-june-3/">real deal</a> to warrant a dissection. The model shown here came sporting a 1.6GHz <a href="http://www.engadget.com/tag/Atom/">Atom</a> processor, 1GB of DDR2 RAM, a 160GB Seagate hard drive and built-in gigabit Ethernet / WiFi / Bluetooth. Best of all, you'll see more than flashes of EBOX PCB when you step into the read link below -- you'll get a lengthy list of initial impressions too (hint: it's rather impressive). Based on unnamed sources, the Inquirer is reporting that the desktop PC will be called the Asus EBOX. <a href="http://www.engadget.com/2008/05/23/more-different-eee-box-specs-surface-online/">As already speculated,</a> they are saying it will be revealed on June 3 at Computex. Specs also look to be what we've been told already: 160GB HDD, 2GB RAM, and a Linux OS. Nothing much more to see here, but we're hoping Asus will give this thing a competitive price for those looking to tinker with a slick open-source box.<p>Filed under: <a href="http://www.engadget.com/category/desktops/" rel="tag">Desktops</a></p><p style="padding:5px;background:#ddd;border:1px solid #ccc;clear:both;"><a href="http://www.engadget.com/2008/05/25/rumors-indicate-eee-box-will-be-called-ebox-coming-june-3/">Rumors indicate Eee Box will be called EBOX, coming June 3</a> originally appeared on <a href="http://www.engadget.com">Engadget</a> on Sun, 25 May 2008 07:10:00 EST. While that source apparently couldn't confirm that the desk-bound Eee would in fact be an Atom-based box as many are speculating, the source reportedly did flat out say that the system would be launching with 2GB of RAM as standard, and a 160GB hard drive (not 1GB and 80GB as we had previously heard). It'll also supposedly be running the same Linux distribution as the Eee PC, and be available in white only to start with. What's more, it seems that this particular source's information should be able to be verified one way or another soon enough, as he/she is also saying that ASUS will get official about the Eee Box on June 3rd at Computex in Taiwan, with an actual release set to follow sometime in the third quarter, in the UK at least.<br /><br />[Thanks, Argie]<p>Filed under: <a href="http://www.engadget.com/category/desktops/" rel="tag">Desktops</a></p><p style="padding:5px;background:#ddd;border:1px solid #ccc;clear:both;"><a href="http://www.engadget.com/2008/05/23/more-different-eee-box-specs-surface-online/">More, different Eee Box specs surface online</a> originally appeared on <a href="http://www.engadget.com">Engadget</a> on Fri, 23 May 2008 16:31:00 EST.
