Since these devices were never actually available to the public, they've always been a little hard to come by, but we have seen 'em for sale from Dell as well as from <a href="http://www.engadget.com/2008/09/24/cannon-pc-starts-offering-internal-cablecard-tuners-for-sale-sep/">Cannon PC</a> and even on <a href="http://www.engadget.com/2007/10/25/sony-selling-the-ati-tv-wonder-cablecard-tuner-all-by-its-loneso/">Sony's site</a>. This entire situation only makes us even more sure that <a href="http://www.engadget.com/2009/09/11/ceton-is-set-to-take-over-the-cablecard-pc-tuner-market/">ATI's days in the Digital Cable Tuner business are numbered</a>. What we mean is that there is no doubt that ATI knew this was coming to Windows 7 long before we did, so any company who actually wanted to sell something would have actually had them available at retail by now. One thing is for sure, there is a pent up demand for CableCARD tuners in the Media Center community and a more affordable, more available, option can't get here soon enough. While we wait for the <a href="http://www.engadget.com/tag/Ceton/">1st quarter of 2010 to come,</a> you can pay through the nose for one on eBay in the meantime.<p style="padding:5px;background:#ddd;border:1px solid #ccc;clear:both;"><a href="http://www.engadget.com/2009/12/08/are-cablecard-tuners-for-media-center-sold-out-everywhere/">Are CableCARD tuners for Media Center sold out everywhere?</a> originally appeared on <a href="http://www.engadget.com">Engadget</a> on Tue, 08 Dec 2009 13:39:00 EST. If you're like some people we know - - yes Zatz, we're talking about you -- the idea of adding yet another box to your home theater setup isn't anywhere near consideration. Up until now, this meant that if you wanted to add an <a href="http://www.engadget.com/2007/01/11/atis-tv-wonder-digital-cable-tuner-hands-on/">ATI Digital Cable Tuner</a> to your <a href="http://www.engadget.com/tag/vistamediacenter">Vista Media Center</a> PC, you either had to hold your nose or spend the big bucks on one of the top tier OEMs that offered the internal version -- which is actually the same device sans a case, and yes it still connects via USB. Our friend Chris Lanier discovered today that Cannon PC started selling both the external and internal versions of the ATI TV Wonder DCT separately, so that finally those with CableCARD ready Vista Media Center PCs -- you know the OEM only ones -- can either add additional tuner, or opt to swap out the external variety for the internal type the takes less space, all for about $300 each. <br /><br />[Via <a href="http://thedigitallifestyle.com/cs/blogs/ian/archive/2008/09/23/cannon-pc-selling-standalone-digital-cable-tuners.aspx">The Digital Lifestyle</a>]<p>Filed under: <a href="http://www.engadget.com/category/media-pcs/" rel="tag">Media PCs</a>, <a href="http://www.engadget.com/category/cable/" rel="tag">Cable</a>, <a href="http://www.engadget.com/category/fiber/" rel="tag">Fiber</a></p><p style="padding:5px;background:#ddd;border:1px solid #ccc;clear:both;"><a href="http://www.engadget.com/2008/09/24/cannon-pc-starts-offering-internal-cablecard-tuners-for-sale-sep/">Cannon PC starts offering internal CableCARD tuners for sale separately</a> originally appeared on <a href="http://www.engadget.com">Engadget</a> on Wed, 24 Sep 2008 13:22:00 EST. Ah, companies that don't just rest on their laurels. Not even a month after we heard that Cannon PC would be offering up <a href="http://www.engadget.com/2008/05/29/cannon-pc-to-offer-up-dual-quad-cablecard-media-center-rigs/">dual- and quad-CableCARD rigs</a>, in flies word that said company is demonstrating a machine capable of handling <em>half a dozen</em> CableCARDs. Yeah, six cards controlled simultaneously by one computer. For those curious, the devices in question were <a href="http://www.engadget.com/2007/01/11/atis-tv-wonder-digital-cable-tuner-hands-on/">ATI's Digital Cable</a> tuners, and while gloating about something is one thing, it's another to host a video up on the 'net for all to see. Six high-definition programs get recorded at once in the video just after the break -- c'mon, you know can't resist checking out such a feat out.<p><a href="http://www.engadget.com/2008/06/20/cannon-pc-showcases-media-center-with-six-cablecards/" rel="bookmark">Continue reading <em>Cannon PC showcases Media Center with six CableCARDs</em></a></p><p>Filed under: <a href="http://www.engadget.com/category/industry/" rel="tag">Industry</a>, <a href="http://www.engadget.com/category/media-pcs/" rel="tag">Media PCs</a>, <a href="http://www.engadget.com/category/other-hardware/" rel="tag">Other hardware</a>, <a href="http://www.engadget.com/category/tuners/" rel="tag">Tuners</a>, <a href="http://www.engadget.com/category/others/" rel="tag">Others</a></p><p style="padding:5px;background:#ddd;border:1px solid #ccc;clear:both;"><a href="http://www.engadget.com/2008/06/20/cannon-pc-showcases-media-center-with-six-cablecards/">Cannon PC showcases Media Center with six CableCARDs</a> originally appeared on <a href="http://www.engadget.com">Engadget</a> on Fri, 20 Jun 2008 12:39:00 EST. Your <a href="http://www.engadget.com/2007/10/26/hps-media-center-pc-with-cablecard-for-1250/">options</a> are <a href="http://www.engadget.com/2007/03/15/dell-xps-410-with-cablecard-and-blu-ray-p-reviewed/">fairly limited</a> when scouring the market for a twin-CableCARD HTPC, but thanks to a new partnership between Cannon PC and Microsoft, yet another rival will be jousting for your business. Here soon, the outfit will be offering its Home and Pro A/V series Media Center PCs with dual CableCARDs pre-installed, and if you're willing to wait a touch longer, a <a href="http://www.engadget.com/2007/09/07/hands-on-with-eis-four-cablecard-754-lifemedia-server/">quad-CableCARD</a> model will also be available. Oh, and if that chassis above looks strangely familiar, that's because it is: Cannon has simply grabbed <a href="http://www.engadget.com/2007/01/19/origenae-cranks-out-sexy-1080p-lcd-equipped-htpc-chassis/">OrigenAE's famed shell</a>, painted it black and slapped its own logo up there (though we aren't complaining or anything). The pictured EX line is just one of the many families with the new functionality, so head on over to the company's website if you're interested in shelling out.<p>Filed under: <a href="http://www.engadget.com/category/media-pcs/" rel="tag">Media PCs</a>, <a href="http://www.engadget.com/category/tuners/" rel="tag">Tuners</a>, <a href="http://www.engadget.com/category/others/" rel="tag">Others</a></p><p style="padding:5px;background:#ddd;border:1px solid #ccc;clear:both;"><a href="http://www.engadget.com/2008/05/29/cannon-pc-to-offer-up-dual-quad-cablecard-media-center-rigs/">Cannon PC to offer up dual / quad-CableCARD Media Center rigs</a> originally appeared on <a href="http://www.engadget.com">Engadget</a> on Thu, 29 May 2008 12:12:00 EST.
