Just a few months back, <a href="http://www.engadget.com/tag/Epson/">Epson</a> seemed fairly content <a href="http://www.engadget.com/2009/06/11/epsons-wuxga-htps-tft-panel-hints-at-ultra-bright-high-contras/">showing off</a> an HTPS panel with a WUXGA (1,920 x 1,200) resolution, though today that very product just seems lackluster. Up until now, <a href="http://hd.engadget.com/tag/4k/">4K x 2K</a> projectors were reserved strictly for cinemas, businesses and consumers with a) more money than sense <i>and</i> b) room for a 200-pound beamer in their basement. The planet's first 4K-compatible high-temperature polysilicon (HTPS) TFT liquid crystal panel for 3LCD projectors measures just 1.64-inches and supports displays with resolutions as high as 4,096 x 2,160. Your guess is as good as ours as to when this stuff will actually hit the market in a functioning product, but yesterday is as good a day as any to start saving up.<br />

We already <a href="http://www.engadget.com/2009/09/07/epsons-eh-tw5500-and-eh-tw4400-flagship-projectors-seen-hanging/">snuck a peak</a> at the European version of Epson's Home Cinema 8500 UB (the EH-TW4400) and Pro Cinema 9500 UB (EH-TW5500) at the big IFA show in Berlin. Now they're US official, and joined by newly anointed PowerLite Home Cinema 8100 and Pro Cinema 9100 models. The new 8100 doubles the reported contrast of the old <a href="http://www.engadget.com/2008/09/04/epson-claims-1080p-powerlite-home-cinema-6100-is-first-under-2k/">6100</a> (on paper anyway) which <em>should</em> equate to a visible black level improvement for an asking price of just $1,500 after $100 rebate -- very reasonable for a Full HD home theater projector of Epson quality. The 9100 adds support for an anamorphic lens, ISF certification for professional setups, a bundled ceiling mount and spare E-TORL lamp, and a 3-year replacement warranty for a beefier $2,600. Expect the 8100 to hit US retail in October along side the "sub-$4,000" Pro Cinema 9500 UB while the 9100 lands in November with the "sub-$3,000" Home Cinema 8500 UB. Your holiday slide-shows will never be the same. <br /><br />[Via <a href="http://www.projectorreviews.com/blog/2009/09/07/epson-home-cinema-8100-and-pro-cinema-9100-projectors-quick-look/">The Art of Home Theater Projectors</a>]<br /><br /><a href="http://news.prnewswire.com/ViewContent.aspx?ACCT=109&amp;STORY=/www/story/09-08-2009/0005089134&amp;EDATE=">Read</a> -- PowerLite Home Cinema 8100 and 8500 UB <br /><a href="http://news.prnewswire.com/ViewContent.aspx?ACCT=109&amp;STORY=/www/story/09-08-2009/0005089136&amp;EDATE=">Read</a> -- PowerLite Pro Cinema 9100 and 9500 UB<p>Filed under: <a href="http://hd.engadget.com/category/industry/" rel="tag">Industry</a>, <a href="http://hd.engadget.com/category/displays/" rel="tag">Displays</a>, <a href="http://hd.engadget.com/category/epson/" rel="tag">Epson</a>, <a href="http://hd.engadget.com/category/projector/" rel="tag">Projector</a></p><p style="padding:5px;background:#ddd;border:1px solid #ccc;clear:both;"><a href="http://hd.engadget.com/2009/09/08/epsons-2010-powerlite-home-and-pro-cinema-projector-lineup-give/">Epson's 2010 PowerLite Home and Pro Cinema projector lineup given US pricing, dates</a> originally appeared on <a href="http://hd.engadget.com">Engadget HD</a> on Tue, 08 Sep 2009 07:34:00 EST. It's that time again: the <a href="http://hd.engadget.com/tag/CEDIA/">end-of-year rush</a> to launch the best and brightest home theater projectors for the holiday cocooning season. Epson's casting its 2009 lot with the EH-TW5500 and EH-TW4400 3LCD projectors featuring Full HD (1920x1080) resolutions, a 1600 ANSI lumen brightness, and quiet 22dB operation. The TW4400 (aka, Home Cinema 8500UB as it will be known Stateside) touts a 130000:1 contrast while the TW5500 (aka, Pro Cinema 9500UB) ratchets the hyperbole up to 200000:1 -- that's about double the claim of Epson's <a href="http://www.engadget.com/2008/09/04/epson-churns-out-1080p-powerlite-pro-cinema-7100-and-7500-ub-pro/">previous high-enders </a>that already featured excellent black performance. To be fair, Epson makes some of, if not <em>the best</em>, home theater projectors for the money thanks to its D7 C2Fine LCD panels manufactured in-house. Other specs include 12bit video processing, improved frame interpolation and 4-4 pull-down, x.v. color mode, 2.1x optical zoom with horizontal/vertical lens shift, and a range of inputs including 2x HDMI, YUV, and RGB.<br /><br />We gave the TW5500 an eyes and ears-on here are IFA in Berlin in a finely-tuned home theater setup and came away extremely impressed with the image -- enough so that we'd be tempted to layout the &euro;3,299 European asking price (&euro;2,799 for the TW4400) come November if only we had the space to let this baby shine. But let's wait and see what the competition has in response when <a href="http://hd.engadget.com/tag/cedia/">CEDIA</a> kicks off later this week -- it's best to be informed and 3 grand ain't exactly chump change.<br /><br /><a href="http://www.aboutprojectors.com/news/2009/09/04/epson-introduces-eh-tw4400-and-eh-tw5500-projectors-as-new-flagships/">Read</a> -- Press Release<br /><a href="http://www.projectorreviews.com/blog/2009/09/06/epson-home-cinema-8500ub-and-pro-cinema-9500ub-projectors-details/#more-461">Read</a> -- Art Feierman's opinion<p>Filed under: <a href="http://hd.engadget.com/category/industry/" rel="tag">Industry</a>, <a href="http://hd.engadget.com/category/displays/" rel="tag">Displays</a>, <a href="http://hd.engadget.com/category/epson/" rel="tag">Epson</a>, <a href="http://hd.engadget.com/category/projector/" rel="tag">Projector</a></p><p style="padding:5px;background:#ddd;border:1px solid #ccc;clear:both;"><a href="http://hd.engadget.com/2009/09/07/epsons-eh-tw5500-and-eh-tw4400-flagship-projectors-seen-hanging/">Epson's EH-TW5500 and EH-TW4400 flagship projectors seen hanging out with high contrast blacks, Germans</a> originally appeared on <a href="http://hd.engadget.com">Engadget HD</a> on Mon, 07 Sep 2009 03:59:00 EST. As much as we'd like to put stock in Satoru Miyashita's forecast, we're still hesitant to believe that we're just two Consumer Electronic Shows away from seeing <a href="http://hd.engadget.com/2009/04/19/sony-to-finally-unveil-larger-screen-oled-tvs-at-ifa/">big-screen OLED TVs</a> for sale. After Sony's <a href="http://www.engadget.com/2007/10/01/sony-3-mm-thin-xel-1-oled-tv-in-person-oh-and-its-fricking-th/">polarizing XEL-1</a> hit the scene around two years ago, we've seen an anemic amount of action in the commercial OLED TV space. Sure, we've heard <a href="http://hd.engadget.com/2009/03/19/lg-teams-with-kodak-for-future-oled-devices/">promise</a> after <a href="http://hd.engadget.com/2009/06/01/samsung-slaps-production-ready-label-on-14-1-and-31-inch-oled/">promise</a>, but we've still got no solid evidence that a large-screen set is anywhere near a Sam's Club shelf. In a recent interview with the general manager of Seiko Epson's Core Technology Development Center, <em>OLED-Info</em> managed to get this out of the exec: "We see 2012 as being the year that 37"+ OLED TVs will be launched by various makers, and 2015 as the year that sales will really take off for this market." He's referring to the year in which OEMs will begin to use its new <a href="http://hd.engadget.com/2009/05/26/seiko-epsons-inkjet-tech-brings-big-screen-oled-tvs-inches-clos/">inkjet-printing approach</a> to making OLED TVs, which will hopefully allow for easier development of larger panels. 'Til then, we suppose we'll just have to be content with using the <a href="http://www.engadget.com/2009/05/28/zune-hd-hands-on/">Zune HD</a> as our primary television.<p>Filed under: <a href="http://hd.engadget.com/category/industry/" rel="tag">Industry</a>, <a href="http://hd.engadget.com/category/displays/" rel="tag">Displays</a>, <a href="http://hd.engadget.com/category/epson/" rel="tag">Epson</a>, <a href="http://hd.engadget.com/category/oled/" rel="tag">OLED</a></p><p style="padding:5px;background:#ddd;border:1px solid #ccc;clear:both;"><a href="http://hd.engadget.com/2009/06/24/seiko-epson-envisions-inkjet-printed-oled-tvs-unicorns-for-all/">Seiko Epson envisions large inkjet-printed OLED TVs, unicorns for all in 2012</a> originally appeared on <a href="http://hd.engadget.com">Engadget HD</a> on Wed, 24 Jun 2009 13:51:00 EST. As a leader in home cinema systems, it's always a good idea to keep tabs on Epson's core technologies as a preview of what's coming up in next generation home theater projectors. Today Seiko-Epson announced the start of volume production for its 0.94-inch HTPS-TFT LCD capable of a WUXGA (1920 x 1200 pixel) resolution for 3LCD projectors pushing 1080p. The panel supports a brightness of 5000 lumens (or more!) using Epson's D7 process technology while achieving "higher than ever contrast" through its C2 Fine inorganic alignment layer tech. Slotted for those who want a top of the line 1080p projector and aren't afraid to pay extra for it, the just-launched <a href="http://hd.engadget.com/tag/epson/">Epson</a> EH-TW5000 manages a dynamic contrast ratio of 75,000:1 and 1600 ANSI lumens from its 3LCD technology. Matched with an <a href="http://hd.engadget.com/tag/hqv">HQV</a> chip capable of 12-bit image processing, 4-4 pulldown, support for ultra-widescreen lenses, ISF certification and a mere 22db of noise it should garner consideration in any home theater setup, <em>About Projectors</em> says it can be found for around $5,299.<br /> <br /> [via <a href="http://www.aboutprojectors.com/news/2009/06/08/epson-releases-eh-tw5000-projector-as-new-flagship/">About Projectors</a> &amp; <a href="http://asia.cnet.com/crave/?t=eh-tw5000">Crave</a>]<p>Filed under: <a href="http://hd.engadget.com/category/others/" rel="tag">Others</a>, <a href="http://hd.engadget.com/category/lcd/" rel="tag">LCD</a>, <a href="http://hd.engadget.com/category/projector/" rel="tag">Projector</a></p><p style="padding:5px;background:#ddd;border:1px solid #ccc;clear:both;"><a href="http://hd.engadget.com/2009/06/08/epson-eh-tw5000-75-000-1-contrast-ratio-projector-available/">Epson EH-TW5000 75,000:1 contrast ratio projector available</a> originally appeared on <a href="http://hd.engadget.com">Engadget HD</a> on Mon, 08 Jun 2009 16:28:00 EST. We know it's been burning on your mind everyday since December 6th, 2007: "What on Earth are those guys and gals over at Seiko Epson doing now that they've <a href="http://hd.engadget.com/2007/12/06/seiko-epson-ceases-production-sales-of-rptvs/">killed production of RPTVs</a>?" At long last, we've located an answer. According to a prideful new release from the outfit, it has developed a new inkjet technology that will enable the "uniform deposition of organic material in the production of large-screen OLED TVs." For what seems like years now, manufacturers have teased us with <a href="http://www.engadget.com/2008/06/24/panasonic-working-on-37-inch-oled-tv-theyd-better-be/">37-inch OLED HDTVs</a>, but they've skirted around questions relating to "price" and "release." Now, the last remaining <a href="http://hd.engadget.com/2009/05/15/samsung-and-lg-cooperating-on-oled-randd/">excuse</a> seems to have been vaporized, so if we don't see a market-ready <a href="http://hd.engadget.com/2009/05/08/panasonic-and-sumitomo-see-eye-to-eye-in-this-oled-game-big-scr/">big-screen OLED</a> at CES 2010... well, let's just say the knee-capping club is dying for a reason to reunite.<br /><br />[Via <a href="http://www.akihabaranews.com/en/news_details.php?id=18174">Akihabara News</a>]<p>Filed under: <a href="http://hd.engadget.com/category/displays/" rel="tag">Displays</a>, <a href="http://hd.engadget.com/category/epson/" rel="tag">Epson</a>, <a href="http://hd.engadget.com/category/oled/" rel="tag">OLED</a></p><p style="padding:5px;background:#ddd;border:1px solid #ccc;clear:both;"><a href="http://hd.engadget.com/2009/05/26/seiko-epsons-inkjet-tech-brings-big-screen-oled-tvs-inches-clos/">Seiko Epson's inkjet tech brings big-screen OLED TVs closer to reality</a> originally appeared on <a href="http://hd.engadget.com">Engadget HD</a> on Tue, 26 May 2009 10:34:00 EST. Considering that Epson's highest-end HTIB is <a href="http://hd.engadget.com/2007/07/17/epsons-high-end-htib-the-ensemble-home-cinema-system/">nearly two years old</a> now, we'd say an update was definitely in order. Today, the outfit has just taken the wraps off of its next-generation <a href="http://hd.engadget.com/2009/01/29/epson-ensemble-hd-home-cinema-system-gets-reviewed/">Ensemble HD Home Cinema</a>, which gets updated by way of including the <a href="http://hd.engadget.com/2008/09/04/epson-claims-1080p-powerlite-home-cinema-6100-is-first-under-2k/">PowerLite Home Cinema 6100</a> or <a href="http://hd.engadget.com/2009/01/07/epson-prices-displays-the-powerlite-home-cinema-6500-ub/">Home Cinema 6500 UB</a>. As with the prior kit, these two also include a motorized 100-inch screen, integrated surround sound, AV controller with built-in DVD player, universal remote and all virtually components needed for installation. The only thing that's glaringly absent is a Blu-ray player, which -- at this point -- is completely and utterly inexcusable. At any rate, those content with treating themselves to upscaled DVD can fork out $4,999 for the Ensemble HD Home Cinema 720p, $6,499 for the Ensemble HD Home Cinema 6100 and $7,999 for the Ensemble HD Home Cinema 6500 UB.<p>Filed under: <a href="http://hd.engadget.com/category/displays/" rel="tag">Displays</a>, <a href="http://hd.engadget.com/category/other-hardware/" rel="tag">Other hardware</a>, <a href="http://hd.engadget.com/category/players/" rel="tag">Players</a>, <a href="http://hd.engadget.com/category/epson/" rel="tag">Epson</a>, <a href="http://hd.engadget.com/category/projector/" rel="tag">Projector</a></p><p style="padding:5px;background:#ddd;border:1px solid #ccc;clear:both;"><a href="http://hd.engadget.com/2009/04/28/epson-launches-next-gen-ensemble-hd-home-cinema-system/">Epson launches next-gen Ensemble HD Home Cinema System</a> originally appeared on <a href="http://hd.engadget.com">Engadget HD</a> on Tue, 28 Apr 2009 16:10:00 EST. The 3LCD, XGA resolution projector also boasts some nice convenience features like 30-degrees of tilt and both horizontal and vertical lens shift so you can quickly get things set up when moving from the classroom to the family room. Available now for $2,499 -- but that lack of 1080 vertical pixels and only 1,000:1 contrast leave us a little cold while we look across other <a href="http://hd.engadget.com/tag/epson">Epson</a> <a href="http://hd.engadget.com/2008/12/11/epson-introduces-1080p-eh-tw3000-projector/">offerings</a>, even if they require a little more light control in the room. Still, if blackout drapes are just out of the question for your setting, those 4,000 lumens speak volumes.<p>Filed under: <a href="http://hd.engadget.com/category/epson/" rel="tag">Epson</a>, <a href="http://hd.engadget.com/category/lcd/" rel="tag">LCD</a>, <a href="http://hd.engadget.com/category/projector/" rel="tag">Projector</a></p><p style="padding:5px;background:#ddd;border:1px solid #ccc;clear:both;"><a href="http://hd.engadget.com/2009/02/24/epson-dishes-up-the-4-000-lumen-g5000-projector/">Epson dishes up the 4,000 lumen G5000 projector</a> originally appeared on <a href="http://hd.engadget.com">Engadget HD</a> on Tue, 24 Feb 2009 18:59:00 EST. It turns out that seemingly simple metric is skewed as well, and Epson is going to adopt a Lumita-developed measurement called "Color Light Output" to get a better handle on things. Projector brightness is measured from a white field, which means that for models that use more than just RGB primaries for image formation -- like <a href="http://hd.engadget.com/tag/plc-xp200l/">4LCD projectors</a> -- the white field can be quite a bit brighter than the sum of the red, green and blue fields and give a misleading representation of white brightness relative to color brightness. The new "color illuminance" figure is the sum of the red, green and blue brightness only and will appear alongside the traditional white brightness. This all sounds very similar to last year's <a href="http://hd.engadget.com/2008/01/08/3lcd-manufacturers-introduce-color-brightness-measurement/">Color Brightness</a> measurement that Sony and Epson backed, and we're all for more meaningful and thorough specs, but the bottom line remains the same -- trust your own eyes.<br /><br /><a href="http://www.smarthouse.com.au/Home_Cinema/Projectors_And_Screens/C8N2H8W7">Read</a> - Epson adopts Color Light Output<br /><a href="http://www.lumita.com/site_media/work/whitepapers/files/New_IEC-proposal_1207.pdf">Read</a> - Lumita whitepaper [PDF]<p>Filed under: <a href="http://hd.engadget.com/category/industry/" rel="tag">Industry</a>, <a href="http://hd.engadget.com/category/epson/" rel="tag">Epson</a>, <a href="http://hd.engadget.com/category/projector/" rel="tag">Projector</a></p><p style="padding:5px;background:#ddd;border:1px solid #ccc;clear:both;"><a href="http://hd.engadget.com/2009/02/11/epson-adopts-new-color-metric-for-projector-performance/">Epson adopts new color metric for projector performance</a> originally appeared on <a href="http://hd.engadget.com">Engadget HD</a> on Wed, 11 Feb 2009 05:11:00 EST. Let's get one thing straight up front: Epson's <a href="http://hd.engadget.com/2007/07/17/epsons-high-end-htib-the-ensemble-home-cinema-system/">Ensemble HD Home Cinema System</a> isn't right for everyone. In fact, we'd say it's right for only a small sect of individuals. You see, this <a href="http://hd.engadget.com/2008/07/08/epsons-ensemble-hd-home-cinema-system-now-shipping/">all-in-one solution</a> is <em>really</em> all-in-one, meaning that you'll not only have to be completely okay with each and every component, but you'll need a local installer to come and set everything up. For those looking to exert zero effort into their home theater system, this is the one to beat. <em>E-Gear</em> critics were able to have a sit with the 1080p version of the bundle, and while nothing was absolutely groundbreaking, everything seemed to function well enough. Video and audio were both satisfactory, and the fit and finish of everything was superb. If you've found yourself in that tiny niche of prospective buyers, you owe it to yourself to give the read link a look before throwing down thousands.<p>Filed under: <a href="http://hd.engadget.com/category/reviews/" rel="tag">Reviews</a>, <a href="http://hd.engadget.com/category/displays/" rel="tag">Displays</a>, <a href="http://hd.engadget.com/category/receivers/" rel="tag">Receivers</a>, <a href="http://hd.engadget.com/category/speakers/" rel="tag">Speakers</a></p><p style="padding:5px;background:#ddd;border:1px solid #ccc;clear:both;"><a href="http://hd.engadget.com/2009/01/29/epson-ensemble-hd-home-cinema-system-gets-reviewed/">Epson Ensemble HD Home Cinema System gets reviewed</a> originally appeared on <a href="http://hd.engadget.com">Engadget HD</a> on Thu, 29 Jan 2009 10:16:00 EST. <div align="left">We caught sight of Epson's PowerLite Home Cinema 6500 UB <a href="http://www.engadget.com/2008/09/12/epsons-powerlite-home-cinema-6500-ub-quietly-comes-to-light/">quite a while back</a>, but now it's available and on display at CES as the company's flagship home projector. If you've forgotten, this little beast boasts a 920 x 1080 full HD resolution, displays 1600 ANSI lumens, and a 75000:1 contrast ratio. All in all, not too bad for the $3,000 asking price. <br /></div>

We understand that the DVD-packin' projector has a certain place in life, but even in that dark little cavern, Epson's <a href="http://hd.engadget.com/2008/08/29/epson-rolls-out-all-in-one-eh-dm2-projector/">EH-DM2</a> didn't do much to impress the panel over at <em>TrustedReviews</em>. The first thing that really got 'em worked up was the outright omission of an HDMI port, and of course, the subpar 854 x 480 resolution didn't win over anyone, either. Moving on to even harsher bashing, we find that there's no optical zoom whatsoever, so you best have limitless mounting options if you're looking for optimal quality. Even considering the native resolution, critics were definitely underwhelmed by the images output by the DM2, and their bottom line was this: "we wouldn't have been impressed by the PJ's performance -- even as a mega-budget, ultra-casual projector -- two years ago." Can you say "burn?"<p>Filed under: <a href="http://hd.engadget.com/category/reviews/" rel="tag">Reviews</a>, <a href="http://hd.engadget.com/category/displays/" rel="tag">Displays</a>, <a href="http://hd.engadget.com/category/epson/" rel="tag">Epson</a>, <a href="http://hd.engadget.com/category/projector/" rel="tag">Projector</a></p><p style="padding:5px;background:#ddd;border:1px solid #ccc;clear:both;"><a href="http://hd.engadget.com/2009/01/06/epsons-dvd-playing-eh-dm2-projector-reviewed-little-love-is-sh/">Epson's DVD-playing EH-DM2 projector reviewed, little love is shown</a> originally appeared on <a href="http://hd.engadget.com">Engadget HD</a> on Tue, 06 Jan 2009 04:20:00 EST. Man, talk about a much needed refreshing. Last we recall, <a href="http://hd.engadget.com/category/epson/">Epson</a> was eliciting "awws" from window shoppers who just couldn't get over how delightfully cute its <a href="http://www.engadget.com/2006/11/21/epson-goes-miniature-with-endeavor-st100-micro-pc/">Endeavor ST100</a> micro PC was. Fast forward two years, and here we have the equally tiny (albeit entirely more useful) ST120. The all-black box comes equipped with a 2.26GHz Core 2 Duo P8400 CPU, 1GB of RAM, 80GB of hard drive space, an HDMI output, a Blu-ray writer and a digital TV tuner. Too bad the loaded configuration we just spouted off rings up at &yen;137,500 ($1,531), but those with less lavish lifestyles can opt for a DVD model that starts at "just" &yen;65,100 ($725).<br /><br />[Via <a href="http://es.engadget.com/2008/12/16/epson-endeavor-st120-con-unidad-blu-ray/">Engadget Spanish</a>]<p>Filed under: <a href="http://hd.engadget.com/category/blu-ray/" rel="tag">Blu-ray</a>, <a href="http://hd.engadget.com/category/media-pcs/" rel="tag">Media PCs</a>, <a href="http://hd.engadget.com/category/tuners/" rel="tag">Tuners</a>, <a href="http://hd.engadget.com/category/epson/" rel="tag">Epson</a></p><p style="padding:5px;background:#ddd;border:1px solid #ccc;clear:both;"><a href="http://hd.engadget.com/2008/12/16/epson-trots-out-tiny-st120-htpc-finds-room-for-blu-ray-tv-tun/">Epson trots out tiny ST120 HTPC, finds room for Blu-ray / TV tuner</a> originally appeared on <a href="http://hd.engadget.com">Engadget HD</a> on Tue, 16 Dec 2008 14:02:00 EST. Epson's EH-TW3000 isn't much to look at, but we all know it's the innards that count. The 1080p beamer sports the company's 3LCD technology, a 20,000:1 contrast ratio, 2,000 ANSI lumens, a 10-bit video processing engine, whisper quiet design, twin HDMI 1.3 inputs and a 3-year warranty. In other words, it's housing everything you need to make your movies look great, but it'll cost you a stiff &euro;1,614 ($2,084) in order to bring one home.<br /><br />[Via <a href="http://www.aboutprojectors.com/news/2008/12/04/epson-releases-eh-tw3000-projector/">AboutProjectors</a>]<p>Filed under: <a href="http://hd.engadget.com/category/displays/" rel="tag">Displays</a>, <a href="http://hd.engadget.com/category/epson/" rel="tag">Epson</a>, <a href="http://hd.engadget.com/category/projector/" rel="tag">Projector</a></p><p style="padding:5px;background:#ddd;border:1px solid #ccc;clear:both;"><a href="http://hd.engadget.com/2008/12/11/epson-introduces-1080p-eh-tw3000-projector/">Epson introduces 1080p EH-TW3000 projector</a> originally appeared on <a href="http://hd.engadget.com">Engadget HD</a> on Thu, 11 Dec 2008 08:46:00 EST. Sure, <a href="http://www.engadget.com/2008/09/04/epson-claims-1080p-powerlite-home-cinema-6100-is-first-under-2k/">they've made this kind of claim before</a>, and it's true that if you look hard enough you'll probably find a couple other 720p projectors at that price, but we're not gonna make a fuss -- this 3LCD projector is a decent deal, what with it doing 2,000 lumens and having a 2,000:1 contrast ratio. It's already available in Epson's online store -- or, at least it would be if it wasn't sold out at the moment. Guess some other economically depressed folks thought it was a decent deal, too!<p>Filed under: <a href="http://hd.engadget.com/category/displays/" rel="tag">Displays</a>, <a href="http://hd.engadget.com/category/other-formats/" rel="tag">Other formats</a>, <a href="http://hd.engadget.com/category/epson/" rel="tag">Epson</a></p><p style="padding:5px;background:#ddd;border:1px solid #ccc;clear:both;"><a href="http://hd.engadget.com/2008/11/10/epson-powerlite-cinema-700-costs-only-slightly-more-dollars-than/">Epson PowerLite Cinema 700 costs only slightly more dollars than its horizontal line count</a> originally appeared on <a href="http://hd.engadget.com">Engadget HD</a> on Mon, 10 Nov 2008 15:50:00 EST. Epson's really on a roll, though it's a shame said roll is one that's bordering on putting us into a deep sleep. After pumping out an <a href="http://hd.engadget.com/2008/10/01/epson-rolls-out-unexciting-ex30-ex50-and-ex70-projectors/">uneventful trio</a> earlier in the week, along comes three more that are equally drab. The EB S6 and EB X6 check in with SVGA and XGA resolutions, respectively, and both units offer up 2,200 ANSI lumens and 2,000:1 contrast ratios. The savior of the bunch is the EB W6, which boasts a 1,280 x 800 (WXGA) resolution and comes with an HDMI port, SD card reader, 2,000:1 contrast ratio and an integrated 7-watt speaker. All three are available (at least in Australia) for $999, $1,199 and $1,399 in order of mention.<br /><br />[Via <a href="http://www.aboutprojectors.com/news/2008/09/29/epson-releases-eb-s6-eb-x6-and-eb-w6-projectors/">AboutProjectors</a>]<p>Filed under: <a href="http://hd.engadget.com/category/displays/" rel="tag">Displays</a>, <a href="http://hd.engadget.com/category/epson/" rel="tag">Epson</a>, <a href="http://hd.engadget.com/category/projector/" rel="tag">Projector</a></p><p style="padding:5px;background:#ddd;border:1px solid #ccc;clear:both;"><a href="http://hd.engadget.com/2008/10/03/epson-keeps-it-rolling-with-eb-s6-eb-x6-and-eb-w6-projectors/">Epson keeps it rolling with EB S6, EB X6 and EB W6 projectors</a> originally appeared on <a href="http://hd.engadget.com">Engadget HD</a> on Fri, 03 Oct 2008 08:13:00 EST. We'll cut right to the chase -- <a href="http://hd.engadget.com/category/epson/">Epson</a>'s EX30 and EX50 PJs come packing SVGA (800 x 600) and XGA (1,024 x 768) resolutions, respectively, so we won't feel bad just hopping over those amateurs and going straight for the big fellow. The delightfully priced ($799) EX70 boasts a 16:10 aspect ratio, 1,280 x 800 (WXGA) resolution, USB Plug 'N Play video, VGA / HDMI inputs, an SD card reader, built-in 7-watt speaker, and 2,000 lumens. It won't satisfy those looking for 1080p images upside their wall, but it also won't force you to <strike>take out a second mortgage</strike> pawn off your kids' toys in order to take one home.<p>Filed under: <a href="http://hd.engadget.com/category/displays/" rel="tag">Displays</a>, <a href="http://hd.engadget.com/category/epson/" rel="tag">Epson</a>, <a href="http://hd.engadget.com/category/projector/" rel="tag">Projector</a></p><p style="padding:5px;background:#ddd;border:1px solid #ccc;clear:both;"><a href="http://hd.engadget.com/2008/10/02/epson-rolls-out-unexciting-ex30-ex50-and-ex70-projectors/">Epson rolls out unexciting EX30, EX50 and EX70 projectors</a> originally appeared on <a href="http://hd.engadget.com">Engadget HD</a> on Thu, 02 Oct 2008 07:32:00 EST. We actually <a href="http://hd.engadget.com/2008/09/05/epsons-powerlite-1080p-projectors-hands-on/">spotted</a> the PowerLite Home Cinema 6500 UB at CEDIA (see it there in the corner?), but given that Epson didn't make a peep about it, we didn't pay it too much mind. After all, that Pro Cinema 7500 UB was what was most interesting to us (and Epson, <a href="http://hd.engadget.com/2008/09/04/epson-churns-out-1080p-powerlite-pro-cinema-7100-and-7500-ub-pro/">evidently</a>). Nevertheless, the 1080p beamer is reportedly the successor to the <a href="http:// http://hd.engadget.com/2008/01/08/epson-launches-1080p-powerlite-home-cinema-1080-ub-projector/">Home Cinema 1080 UB</a>, and while it should perform a lot like the aforesaid 7500 UB, it does arrive sans a mount and with no extra lamp. Still, you will find 1,600 ANSI lumens and a Silicon Optix Reon-VX video processor, and if that's good enough for you, it'll be available this December for around $4,000.<br /><br />[Via <a href="http://www.aboutprojectors.com/news/2008/09/11/epson-announces-powerlite-home-cinema-6500-ub-projector/">AboutProjectors</a>]<p>Filed under: <a href="http://hd.engadget.com/category/displays/" rel="tag">Displays</a>, <a href="http://hd.engadget.com/category/epson/" rel="tag">Epson</a>, <a href="http://hd.engadget.com/category/projector/" rel="tag">Projector</a></p><p style="padding:5px;background:#ddd;border:1px solid #ccc;clear:both;"><a href="http://hd.engadget.com/2008/09/12/epsons-powerlite-home-cinema-6500-ub-quietly-comes-to-light/">Epson's PowerLite Home Cinema 6500 UB quietly comes to light</a> originally appeared on <a href="http://hd.engadget.com">Engadget HD</a> on Fri, 12 Sep 2008 01:22:00 EST. <a href="http://hd.engadget.com/tag/CEDIA2008/">CEDIA 2008</a> was a whirlwind of new projectors, HDTVs and all sorts of other wares that home theater freaks just love. As <a href="http://hd.engadget.com/2007/09/08/cedia-2007-roundup/">always</a>, we were here in the Mile High City covering every minute, but we completely understand if you missed anything. Just in case, we've compiled a summary of what all happened here in Denver, and make sure you head on past the break for the rest. <br /><br /><strong>Hands-ons</strong><br /><br /><a Epson's new trio at <a href="http://hd.engadget.com/tag/CEDIA/">CEDIA</a> wasn't all that spectacular per se, but three new 1080p projectors to choose from is always nice. The PowerLite <a href="http://hd.engadget.com/2008/09/04/epson-claims-1080p-powerlite-home-cinema-6100-is-first-under-2k/">Home Cinema 6100</a>, <a href="http://hd.engadget.com/2008/09/04/epson-churns-out-1080p-powerlite-pro-cinema-7100-and-7500-ub-pro/">Pro Cinema 7100 and Pro Cinema 7500 UB</a> were all hanging out in Epson's smallish booth, and we stopped by to introduce 'em to our camera. See how they made out in the gallery below.<br /><br />

Look, we aren't kvetching about yet another 1080p projector for under two grand, but Epson's getting a tad carried away by claiming that its PowerLite Home Cinema 6100 is the first 1080p PJ under $2k. Sanyo's <a href="http://hd.engadget.com/2008/08/26/sanyos-entry-level-plv-z700-projector-runs-1-995-shipping-in/">$1,995 PLV-Z700</a> notwithstanding, this 3LCD beamer is still a pretty good value, offering up a 1,920 x 1,080 native resolution, 18,000:1 dynamic contrast ratio and Epson's exclusive Dynamic Iris system, which allows light to be controlled precisely on a frame-by-frame basis. Additionally, the E-TORL lamp delivers 1,800 lumens to light up even a mildly lit room, and the 22dB operation should keep most folks sufficiently pleased with noise output. As for ports, you'll find two HDMI 1.3a sockets, an S-Video / composite jack and a VGA connector. Check it this November for $1,999.<p>Filed under: <a href="http://hd.engadget.com/category/displays/" rel="tag">Displays</a>, <a href="http://hd.engadget.com/category/epson/" rel="tag">Epson</a>, <a href="http://hd.engadget.com/category/projector/" rel="tag">Projector</a></p><p style="padding:5px;background:#ddd;border:1px solid #ccc;clear:both;"><a href="http://hd.engadget.com/2008/09/04/epson-claims-1080p-powerlite-home-cinema-6100-is-first-under-2k/">Epson claims 1080p PowerLite Home Cinema 6100 is first under $2k, is badly mistaken</a> originally appeared on <a href="http://hd.engadget.com">Engadget HD</a> on Thu, 04 Sep 2008 11:16:00 EST. The <a href="http://hd.engadget.com/tag/HDprojector/">HD projector</a> flood gates have officially opened here at <a href="http://hd.engadget.com/tag/CEDIA/">CEDIA</a>, and next down the waterfall is Epson. The company is introducing the PowerLite Pro Cinema 7100 (shown after the break) and 7500 UB (pictured above) today, both of which boast a full 1,920 x 1,080 native resolution using the latest-generation 3LCD chips. As for the former, it features an 18,000:1 dynamic contrast ratio while the latter comes up with 75,000:1. Hit the read link for lots, lots more details on the pair, but here's the low-down on pricing / availability. The Pro Cinema 7100 ships in November for just under $3,000; the Pro Cinema 7500 UB lands just before Christmas for around $4,500.</div><p><a href="http://hd.engadget.com/2008/09/04/epson-churns-out-1080p-powerlite-pro-cinema-7100-and-7500-ub-pro/" rel="bookmark">Continue reading <em>Epson churns out 1080p PowerLite Pro Cinema 7100 and 7500 UB projectors</em></a></p><p>Filed under: <a href="http://hd.engadget.com/category/displays/" rel="tag">Displays</a>, <a href="http://hd.engadget.com/category/epson/" rel="tag">Epson</a>, <a href="http://hd.engadget.com/category/projector/" rel="tag">Projector</a></p><p style="padding:5px;background:#ddd;border:1px solid #ccc;clear:both;"><a href="http://hd.engadget.com/2008/09/04/epson-churns-out-1080p-powerlite-pro-cinema-7100-and-7500-ub-pro/">Epson churns out 1080p PowerLite Pro Cinema 7100 and 7500 UB projectors</a> originally appeared on <a href="http://hd.engadget.com">Engadget HD</a> on Thu, 04 Sep 2008 11:13:00 EST. We figure Epson just couldn't find a way to work "BFG" into its gaming-optimized 720P projector, the EH-TW420, due out next month in the UK for &pound;650 ($1,200). It looks like a pretty standard 3LCD projector that shines 2000 lumens bright across 1280 x 720 pixels, but you can flip those panels into a 5ms response time "game mode" similar to that seen in Panasonic's <a href="http://hd.engadget.com/2007/10/23/panasonic-releases-two-pt-a200-hd-projectors/">PT-AX200</a>. We're thinking gamer-oriented gear get a better reception with at least a different color scheme, but otherwise the features look ok: one input each for HDMI, component, composite and S-Video, and the unit packs a single 7-Watt speaker so you're not left in Marcel Marceau mode when you forget to bring your own to the next LAN party.<p>Filed under: <a href="http://hd.engadget.com/category/displays/" rel="tag">Displays</a>, <a href="http://hd.engadget.com/category/epson/" rel="tag">Epson</a>, <a href="http://hd.engadget.com/category/lcd/" rel="tag">LCD</a>, <a href="http://hd.engadget.com/category/projector/" rel="tag">Projector</a></p><p style="padding:5px;background:#ddd;border:1px solid #ccc;clear:both;"><a href="http://hd.engadget.com/2008/08/31/epson-calls-game-on-with-its-eh-tw420-projector/">Epson calls "game on" with its EH-TW420 projector</a> originally appeared on <a href="http://hd.engadget.com">Engadget HD</a> on Sun, 31 Aug 2008 01:07:00 EST. <div align="left">While we can't say we've ever felt the need for a projector with a built-in DVD player <em>and</em> a built-in "surround sound" system, Epson seems to think there's at least some folks that want a big box of compromises, and it's hoping its new EH-DM2 projector will be to their liking. This one's a 3LCD projector, and boasts an "HD compatible" resolution and an adequate 1,200 lumens of brightness, along with a few non-standard features like a USB port to let you view photos, DiVX compatibility from the built-in DVD player and, of course, those built-in 8W speakers that somehow promise to surround you with sound. Not exactly for everyone, to be sure, but the &euro;600 price tag (or just under $900) is certainly reasonable enough, and it'll apparently be available as soon as next month.<br /><br />[Via <a href="http://www.aboutprojectors.com/news/2008/08/29/epson-announces-eh-dm2-the-latest-all-in-one-projector/">About Projectors</a>]</div>

We're not at all pleased by Epson's refusal to reveal the native resolution of its MovieMate 55, but judging by the $699 estimated street price, we'd bet it's no better than 1,024 x 768. At any rate, the 8.4-pound unit is designed more for sleepovers and summer camps than home cinema applications, as it boasts a built-in DVD player rather than a Blu-ray unit (and the resolution to match). You'll also find a pair of 8-watt speakers, 1,200 ANSI lumens, E-TORL lamp and a built-in handle for good measure. Snag one for the youngin' this October at resellers all across the land.<p>Filed under: <a href="http://hd.engadget.com/category/displays/" rel="tag">Displays</a>, <a href="http://hd.engadget.com/category/other-formats/" rel="tag">Other formats</a>, <a href="http://hd.engadget.com/category/players/" rel="tag">Players</a>, <a href="http://hd.engadget.com/category/epson/" rel="tag">Epson</a>, <a href="http://hd.engadget.com/category/projector/" rel="tag">Projector</a></p><p style="padding:5px;background:#ddd;border:1px solid #ccc;clear:both;"><a href="http://hd.engadget.com/2008/08/27/epson-releases-moviemate-55-projector-with-built-in-dvd-player/">Epson releases MovieMate 55 projector with built-in DVD player</a> originally appeared on <a href="http://hd.engadget.com">Engadget HD</a> on Wed, 27 Aug 2008 06:06:00 EST. We're still rather bummed that Epson failed to add in a third option for its <a href="http://hd.engadget.com/2007/07/17/epsons-high-end-htib-the-ensemble-home-cinema-system/">Ensemble HD Home Cinema System</a> that included a Blu-ray player, but nevertheless, those interested in picking up a complete -- and we mean complete -- home theater system at once can finally do so. Said package is available with your choice of a PowerLite 1080p or 720p projector, a 100-inch motorized screen, upconverting DVD player, Atlantic Technology 5.1 speaker system, universal remote, every single cable you'll need to hook things up, a wire management track system and all necessary mounting brackets. Starting us off are three newcomers to the PowerLite Pro series: the XGA G5150NL / G5350NL and the WXGA G5200WNL. Respectively, each one offers up 4,000, 5,000 and 4,200 lumens, and the first two even support the Network Projector functionality found in Vista. Moving on, we've got the PowerLite 6110i ($2,899; pictured) and 1825 ($2,299), which both feature XGA resolutions and 4,000 / 3,500 lumens, but only the latter includes an 802.11a/b/g module for wireless projection. Hit up the read link for lots more details on the whole lot, just try not to get lost in there.<br /><br />[Via <a href="http://www.aboutprojectors.com/news/2008/04/21/epson-introduces-powerlite-6220i-1825-and-powerlite-pro-g5150nl-g5350nl-and-g5200wnl/">AboutProjectors</a>]<p>Filed under: <a href="http://hd.engadget.com/category/displays/" rel="tag">Displays</a>, <a href="http://hd.engadget.com/category/epson/" rel="tag">Epson</a>, <a href="http://hd.engadget.com/category/projector/" rel="tag">Projector</a></p><p style="padding:5px;background:#ddd;border:1px solid #ccc;clear:both;"><a href="http://hd.engadget.com/2008/04/21/epson-gets-busy-with-five-new-multimedia-projectors/">Epson gets busy with five new multimedia projectors</a> originally appeared on <a href="http://hd.engadget.com">Engadget HD</a> on Mon, 21 Apr 2008 13:37:00 EST. We know, trying to digest all of the 1080p projectors out at the moment is a fairly daunting task, but thankfully, the hard-working folks over at <em>Projector Reviews</em> took on the challenge for you. In its latest roundup of "best 1080p projectors," the Panasonic <a href="http://hd.engadget.com/2007/09/07/hands-off-with-panasonics-pt-ae2000u-1080p-projector/">PT-AE2000U</a>, Epson <a href="http://hd.engadget.com/2008/01/08/epson-launches-1080p-powerlite-home-cinema-1080-ub-projector/">Home Cinema 1080p UB</a> and JVC DLA-RS2 took home the gold in the entry-level, mid-range and high-end categories (respectively). Still, quite a few other beamers came exceptionally close to winning it all, so be sure and hit the read link below to figure out which one is right for you (and your budget).<br /><br />[Via <a href="http://www.aboutprojectors.com/news/2008/03/31/projector-reviews-announces-second-annual-projector-comparison-report/">AboutProjectors</a>]<p>Filed under: <a href="http://hd.engadget.com/category/reviews/" rel="tag">Reviews</a>, <a href="http://hd.engadget.com/category/displays/" rel="tag">Displays</a>, <a href="http://hd.engadget.com/category/epson/" rel="tag">Epson</a>, <a href="http://hd.engadget.com/category/jvc/" rel="tag">JVC</a>, <a href="http://hd.engadget.com/category/others/" rel="tag">Others</a>, <a href="http://hd.engadget.com/category/panasonic/" rel="tag">Panasonic</a>, <a href="http://hd.engadget.com/category/projector/" rel="tag">Projector</a></p><p style="padding:5px;background:#ddd;border:1px solid #ccc;clear:both;"><a href="http://hd.engadget.com/2008/04/01/projector-reviews-break-down-the-best-1080p-projectors/">Projector Reviews breaks down the best 1080p projectors</a> originally appeared on <a href="http://hd.engadget.com">Engadget HD</a> on Tue, 01 Apr 2008 09:36:00 EST. DoubleClick has announced its ability to deliver HD ads through <a href="http://hd.engadget.com/2007/12/10/adobe-creates-website-to-boast-about-hd-with-flash/">Adobe Flash</a>. The first one to take advantage is Epson's "Epsonality" ad campaign, created by Butler, Shine, Stern &amp; Partners and encoded in h.264. Questions of how much bandwidth this will take up aside, we're content in the knowledge that least on this site if such an ad pops up unprompted, few will complain about how annoying it is, just how badly its been compressed and how much better it would be on (insert format here).<p>Filed under: <a href="http://hd.engadget.com/category/industry/" rel="tag">Industry</a>, <a href="http://hd.engadget.com/category/internet/" rel="tag">Internet</a></p><p style="padding:5px;background:#ddd;border:1px solid #ccc;clear:both;"><a href="http://hd.engadget.com/2008/03/02/doubleclick-takes-internet-ads-hd/">DoubleClick takes internet ads HD</a> originally appeared on <a href="http://hd.engadget.com">Engadget HD</a> on Sun, 02 Mar 2008 10:07:00 EST. For those with under a grand to spend and an incessant hankering for a new projector, we've got phenomenal news. Epson has added two more 3LCD PJs to its ever-expanding <a href="http://hd.engadget.com/tag/PowerLite/">PowerLite</a> line, both of which feature an XGA (1,024 x 768) resolution, a built-in Ethernet port for remote monitoring and control, an integrated ten-watt speaker and a closed-caption decoder to boot. As for the 83+, you'll find 2,200 lumens compared to the 822+'s 2,600, but other than that, the two are essentially identical. Good enough for you? If so, you can snag one immediately for $899 or $949, respectively.<br /><br />[Via <a href="http://www.aboutprojectors.com/news/2008/02/20/epson-powerlite-83-and-822-projectors/">AboutProjectors</a>]<p>Filed under: <a href="http://hd.engadget.com/category/displays/" rel="tag">Displays</a>, <a href="http://hd.engadget.com/category/epson/" rel="tag">Epson</a>, <a href="http://hd.engadget.com/category/projector/" rel="tag">Projector</a></p><p style="padding:5px;background:#ddd;border:1px solid #ccc;clear:both;"><a href="http://hd.engadget.com/2008/02/20/epson-introduces-powerlite-83-and-822-multimedia-projectors/">Epson introduces PowerLite 83+ and 822+ multimedia projectors</a> originally appeared on <a href="http://hd.engadget.com">Engadget HD</a> on Wed, 20 Feb 2008 13:21:00 EST. Before long, you won't be bragging about how many inches your projector can throw out. Oh no, you'll be boasting about how many LEGOs you can slide between the lens and the wall. Joining the quickly evolving <a href="http://www.engadget.com/2008/01/10/toshibas-short-throw-tdp-ew25u-projector-still-requires-three/">short throw</a> <a href="http://www.engadget.com/2008/01/08/hands-on-with-sanyos-short-throw-plc-xl50-projector/">revolution</a> is Epson's latest duo (each requires 2.1-feet to throw 60-inches), which both feature a native 1,280 x 800 resolution, 500:1 contrast ratio, automatic 4:3 / 16:10 / 16:9 detection and resizing, a ten-watt built-in speaker, VGA (x2), S-Video and composite inputs and an Ethernet port to boot. From what we can gather, the only differences in the EMP-400We are the additional security features (those pesky kids...), a longer warranty and a bundled wall mounting bracket. All in all, we'd opt for the &pound;999 ($1,956) EMP-400W -- unless, of course, you've got a room / house full of mischievous youngsters, in which case we suppose it's worth a few extra hundred pounds to <strike>rest easy</strike> protect your investment.<br /> <br /> [Via <a href="http://www.aboutprojectors.com/news/2008/01/16/epson-emp-400we-projector-built-for-teachers/">AboutProjectors</a>]<p>Filed under: <a href="http://hd.engadget.com/category/displays/" rel="tag">Displays</a>, <a href="http://hd.engadget.com/category/epson/" rel="tag">Epson</a>, <a href="http://hd.engadget.com/category/projector/" rel="tag">Projector</a></p><p style="padding:5px;background:#ddd;border:1px solid #ccc;clear:both;"><a href="http://hd.engadget.com/2008/01/16/epson-launches-ultra-short-throw-emp-400w-emp-400we-projectors/">Epson launches ultra-short throw EMP-400W / EMP-400We projectors</a> originally appeared on <a href="http://hd.engadget.com">Engadget HD</a> on Wed, 16 Jan 2008 17:48:00 EST. Since the contrast ratio is based on just pure white and pure black, a high value does not guarantee that the colors produced by a projector are "punchy." This new "Color Brightness" value will measure a brightness value for each of red, green and blue primary colors used in 3LCD projectors. If a projector produces same brightness for red, green, blue and white, then you know it's able to produce saturated colors over the spectrum. No word on when to expect this metric to be adopted, as it still has to be submitted to the requisite standards bodies.<br /><br />[Via <a href="http://www.aboutprojectors.com/news/2008/01/08/leading-projector-manufacturers-design-new-standard/">AboutProjectors</a>]<p>Filed under: <a href="http://hd.engadget.com/category/industry/" rel="tag">Industry</a>, <a href="http://hd.engadget.com/category/displays/" rel="tag">Displays</a>, <a href="http://hd.engadget.com/category/epson/" rel="tag">Epson</a>, <a href="http://hd.engadget.com/category/sony/" rel="tag">Sony</a>, <a href="http://hd.engadget.com/category/lcd/" rel="tag">LCD</a>, <a href="http://hd.engadget.com/category/projector/" rel="tag">Projector</a></p><p style="padding:5px;background:#ddd;border:1px solid #ccc;clear:both;"><a href="http://hd.engadget.com/2008/01/08/3lcd-manufacturers-introduce-color-brightness-measurement/">3LCD manufacturers introduce Color Brightness measurement</a> originally appeared on <a href="http://hd.engadget.com">Engadget HD</a> on Tue, 08 Jan 2008 20:37:00 EST. Originally, we heard that the PowerLite Home Cinema 1080 UB projector would be <a href="http://www.engadget.com/2007/09/04/epson-eats-their-own-launches-tw2000-1080p-3lcd-projector/">headed stateside</a> in December, but apparently Epson (smartly) chose CES to actually launch it. Aside from the 1,920 x 1,080 resolution and 50,000:1 contrast ratio, this unit also features a 3LCD optical engine, 1,600 ANSI lumens, 12-bit video processing, a pair of HDMI 1.3 inputs, the firm's exclusive OptiCinema lens system / E-TORL lamp and a pearlescent finish nice enough to stare at. Best of all, this beast is not only available now, it's available for $2,799 after a $200 rebate. Yeah, we're diggin' the <a href="http://hd.engadget.com/2007/12/27/sonys-1080p-vpl-vw40-projector-set-for-january-release/">trend</a>.<p>Filed under: <a href="http://hd.engadget.com/category/displays/" rel="tag">Displays</a>, <a href="http://hd.engadget.com/category/epson/" rel="tag">Epson</a>, <a href="http://hd.engadget.com/category/projector/" rel="tag">Projector</a></p><p style="padding:5px;background:#ddd;border:1px solid #ccc;clear:both;"><a href="http://hd.engadget.com/2008/01/08/epson-launches-1080p-powerlite-home-cinema-1080-ub-projector/">Epson launches 1080p PowerLite Home Cinema 1080 UB projector</a> originally appeared on <a href="http://hd.engadget.com">Engadget HD</a> on Tue, 08 Jan 2008 13:46:00 EST. Reportedly, the outfit will be refocusing efforts on front projectors, and judging by its <a href="http://hd.engadget.com/2007/09/07/epsons-cedia-booth-tour/">installation at CEDIA</a>, we can't say we're shocked to hear it. It should be noted that the firm will "continue its research and development activities for rear-projection models," and moreover, a company spokesman proclaimed that it wasn't totally withdrawing from the rear-projection TV "business" -- whatever that means. Another one bites the dust, we suppose.<br /><br />[Image courtesy of <a href="http://www.astera.ru/news/pics/2005_05_05_Epson_LS57P2.jpg">Astera</a>]<p>Filed under: <a href="http://hd.engadget.com/category/industry/" rel="tag">Industry</a>, <a href="http://hd.engadget.com/category/displays/" rel="tag">Displays</a>, <a href="http://hd.engadget.com/category/epson/" rel="tag">Epson</a>, <a href="http://hd.engadget.com/category/crt/" rel="tag">CRT</a></p><p style="padding:5px;background:#ddd;border:1px solid #ccc;clear:both;"><a href="http://hd.engadget.com/2007/12/06/seiko-epson-ceases-production-sales-of-rptvs/">Seiko Epson ceases production, sales of RPTVs</a> originally appeared on <a href="http://hd.engadget.com">Engadget HD</a> on Thu, 06 Dec 2007 10:46:00 EST. The 3LCD projector retails for $1,300, and packs in 1,600 ANSI lumens, a 10,000:1 contrast ratio, 10-bit color processing and fancy AccuCinema Color Management, and built-in lens shift. Epson doesn't mention the resolution, but we're guessing the "720" in the name means this 16:9 unit is shooting out 720p. There's a full complement of ports, including HDMI, and the lamp should last about 4,000 hours. The unit should go on sale later this month.<p>Filed under: <a href="http://hd.engadget.com/category/epson/" rel="tag">Epson</a>, <a href="http://hd.engadget.com/category/projector/" rel="tag">Projector</a></p><p style="padding:5px;background:#ddd;border:1px solid #ccc;clear:both;"><a href="http://hd.engadget.com/2007/10/22/epsons-new-powerlite-home-cinema-720-hd-projector/">Epson's new PowerLite Home Cinema 720 HD projector</a> originally appeared on <a href="http://hd.engadget.com">Engadget HD</a> on Mon, 22 Oct 2007 09:12:00 EST. To be honest, getting our hands (actually, just the camera) around each of <a href="http://hd.engadget.com/tag/Epson/">Epson</a>'s forthcoming MovieMate devices proved to be quite challenging, and we got entirely too close to meeting security on unfriendly terms when we tried to whip these bad boys around for some shots of the back. Nevertheless, we coaxed the MovieMate guardians into letting us shoot, so below you'll find a variety of photographs of the MovieMate 50 and MovieMate 72, each of which tout built-in DVD players. The MovieMate 72 actually sports a swiveling bottom that enables the <a href="http://hd.engadget.com/tag/projector/">projector</a> itself to rotate, and there's even a few integrated speakers in there for good measure. From what we gathered, each of these should hit the market in a couple months.<br /><br /><div class="postgallery"><p><strong>Gallery: <a href="http://www.engadget.com/photos/hands-on-with-epsons-moviemate-50-moviemate-72-projectors/">Hands-on with Epson's MovieMate 50 / MovieMate 72 projectors</a></strong></p><a href="http://www.engadget.com/photos/hands-on-with-epsons-moviemate-50-moviemate-72-projectors/386325/"><img src="http://www.blogcdn.com/www.engadgethd.com/media/2007/09/eppj_thumbnail.jpg" alt="" title="" /></a><a href="http://www.engadget.com/photos/hands-on-with-epsons-moviemate-50-moviemate-72-projectors/386326/"><img src="http://www.blogcdn.com/www.engadgethd.com/media/2007/09/eppj-(1)_thumbnail.jpg" alt="" title="" /></a><a href="http://www.engadget.com/photos/hands-on-with-epsons-moviemate-50-moviemate-72-projectors/386327/"><img src="http://www.blogcdn.com/www.engadgethd.com/media/2007/09/eppj-(2)_thumbnail.jpg" alt="" title="" /></a><a href="http://www.engadget.com/photos/hands-on-with-epsons-moviemate-50-moviemate-72-projectors/386328/"><img src="http://www.blogcdn.com/www.engadgethd.com/media/2007/09/eppj-(3)_thumbnail.jpg" alt="" title="" /></a><a href="http://www.engadget.com/photos/hands-on-with-epsons-moviemate-50-moviemate-72-projectors/386329/"><img src="http://www.blogcdn.com/www.engadgethd.com/media/2007/09/eppj-(4)_thumbnail.jpg" alt="" title="" /></a></div><p>Filed under: <a href="http://hd.engadget.com/category/displays/" rel="tag">Displays</a>, <a href="http://hd.engadget.com/category/players/" rel="tag">Players</a>, <a href="http://hd.engadget.com/category/epson/" rel="tag">Epson</a>, <a href="http://hd.engadget.com/category/projector/" rel="tag">Projector</a></p><p style="padding:5px;background:#ddd;border:1px solid #ccc;clear:both;"><a href="http://hd.engadget.com/2007/09/07/hands-on-with-epsons-moviemate-50-moviemate-72-projectors/">Hands-on with Epson's MovieMate 50 / MovieMate 72 projectors</a> originally appeared on <a href="http://hd.engadget.com">Engadget HD</a> on Fri, 07 Sep 2007 01:18:00 EST. <a href="http://hd.engadget.com/tag/Epson/">Epson</a>'s booth was yet another mid-sized setup that seemed to stretch further up rather than expanding out. As you'd expect, there wasn't a whole heap of goods on the floor with Epson's name on it, but it did have a very sweet demonstration room in the middle for the weary to kick back and get absorbed in a little 1080p. The firm had its projectors split into Pro Cinema, Home Cinema and MovieMate segments, and while the <a href="http://hd.engadget.com/search/?q=PowerLite">PowerLite</a> PJs were all fine and dandy, it was the not-yet-released MovieMates that saw most of our attention. The gallery awaits you...<br /><br /><div class="postgallery"><p><strong>Gallery: <a href="http://www.engadget.com/photos/epsons-cedia-booth-tour/">Epson's CEDIA booth tour</a></strong></p><a href="http://www.engadget.com/photos/epsons-cedia-booth-tour/386281/"><img src="http://www.blogcdn.com/www.engadgethd.com/media/2007/09/epson-(2)_thumbnail.jpg" alt="" title="" /></a><a href="http://www.engadget.com/photos/epsons-cedia-booth-tour/386283/"><img src="http://www.blogcdn.com/www.engadgethd.com/media/2007/09/epson-(3)_thumbnail.jpg" alt="" title="" /></a><a href="http://www.engadget.com/photos/epsons-cedia-booth-tour/386284/"><img src="http://www.blogcdn.com/www.engadgethd.com/media/2007/09/epson-(4)_thumbnail.jpg" alt="" title="" /></a><a href="http://www.engadget.com/photos/epsons-cedia-booth-tour/386285/"><img src="http://www.blogcdn.com/www.engadgethd.com/media/2007/09/epson-(5)_thumbnail.jpg" alt="" title="" /></a><a href="http://www.engadget.com/photos/epsons-cedia-booth-tour/386286/"><img src="http://www.blogcdn.com/www.engadgethd.com/media/2007/09/epson-(6)_thumbnail.jpg" alt="" title="" /></a></div><p>Filed under: <a href="http://hd.engadget.com/category/industry/" rel="tag">Industry</a>, <a href="http://hd.engadget.com/category/displays/" rel="tag">Displays</a>, <a href="http://hd.engadget.com/category/epson/" rel="tag">Epson</a>, <a href="http://hd.engadget.com/category/projector/" rel="tag">Projector</a></p><p style="padding:5px;background:#ddd;border:1px solid #ccc;clear:both;"><a href="http://hd.engadget.com/2007/09/07/epsons-cedia-booth-tour/">Epson's CEDIA booth tour</a> originally appeared on <a href="http://hd.engadget.com">Engadget HD</a> on Fri, 07 Sep 2007 01:01:00 EST. Here it is, Epson's first 3LCD projector to take advantage of their new 0.74-inch HTPS panels already spotted in <a href="http://hd.engadget.com/2007/08/22/mitsubishis-lvp-hc6000-3lcd-projector-throws-1080p-at-19db/">Mitsubishi</a> and <a href="http://hd.engadget.com/2007/08/24/sanyo-s-lp-z2000-3lcd-projector-ugly-but-a-great-personality/">Sanyo</a> projectors. The EMP-TW2000 starts with a trio of Epson-built, 0.74-inch, 1,920 x 1,080 C2FINE LCD panels with D7 process technology, 12-bit LCD driver, and updated OptiFocus engine with DeepBlack phase compensation technology. They then bust a rated 50,000:1 dynamic contrast at 1,600 lumens off a 170W UHE (E-TORL) bulb while supporting x.v.Color over a pair of HDMI v1.3 inputs -- component, S-Video, and D-Sub 15 PC input sprinkled in for fun. Nicely done Epson. Yours in Japan later this month for about &yen;350,000. That'll be a tax-inclusive $3,020 when it comes Stateside under the <a href="http://www.engadget.com/search/?q=powerlite">PowerLite</a> Cinema branding. Pics of the backside, front and huge-ass, plastic remote control after the break.<br /><br /><strong>Update</strong>: As expected, this model is coming to the US under the PowerLite Home Cinema 1080 UB model for <a href="http://www.electronichouse.com/article/epson_projector_pumps_1080p_for_under_3k/">$2,699 in December</a>. Right, the same price their lesser-spec'd Home Cinema 1080 model sells for now. We bet you'll wait, huh?<p>Filed under: <a href="http://hd.engadget.com/category/displays/" rel="tag">Displays</a>, <a href="http://hd.engadget.com/category/epson/" rel="tag">Epson</a>, <a href="http://hd.engadget.com/category/lcd/" rel="tag">LCD</a>, <a href="http://hd.engadget.com/category/projector/" rel="tag">Projector</a></p><p style="padding:5px;background:#ddd;border:1px solid #ccc;clear:both;"><a href="http://hd.engadget.com/2007/09/04/epson-eats-their-own-launches-tw2000-1080p-3lcd-projector/">Epson eats their own, launches TW2000 1080p 3LCD projector</a> originally appeared on <a href="http://hd.engadget.com">Engadget HD</a> on Tue, 04 Sep 2007 01:18:00 EST. That boring piece of kit can be from <a href="http://www.engadget.com/2007/07/18/sanyo-intros-a-pair-of-new-easy-street-gps-units/">none</a> <a href="http://www.engadget.com/2007/07/03/sanyos-6-500-lumen-lp-xp100l-3lcd-projector-bright-with-a-nice/">other</a> <a href="http://www.engadgetmobile.com/2006/12/03/sanyos-m1-and-spc-7000-now-live-on-sprint-nextel/">than</a> <a href="http://www.engadget.com/tag/sanyo">Sanyo</a>. Too bad, 'cause this pig can hunt. The LP-Z2000 1080p projector loads what appears to be the same trio of <a href="http://www.engadget.com/search/?q=epson%203lcd">Epson-made</a> 0.74-inch LCDs as Mitsubishi's <a href="http://hd.engadget.com/2007/08/22/mitsubishis-lvp-hc6000-3lcd-projector-throws-1080p-at-19db/#comments">LVP-HC6000</a> which offers the same 10-bit color reproduction and hushed 19dB operational noise level. The Sanyo betters its peer however, with a reported 15,000:1 contrast ratio, 2x zoom, and blinding 1200 lumens off a 165W UHP lamp. They've even tossed in a couple of component connections on top of a pair of HDMI 1.3a terminals. All this for a tad more at &yen;378,000 (about $3,255) if you're living in Japan where this baby hits on November 1st. Paper bag for that mug, extra.<br /><br />[Via <a href="http://66.249.91.104/translate_c?&amp;u=http://www.watch.impress.co.jp/av/docs/20070824/sanyo.htm">Impress</a>]<p>Filed under: <a href="http://hd.engadget.com/category/industry/" rel="tag">Industry</a>, <a href="http://hd.engadget.com/category/displays/" rel="tag">Displays</a>, <a href="http://hd.engadget.com/category/epson/" rel="tag">Epson</a>, <a href="http://hd.engadget.com/category/others/" rel="tag">Others</a>, <a href="http://hd.engadget.com/category/projector/" rel="tag">Projector</a></p><p style="padding:5px;background:#ddd;border:1px solid #ccc;clear:both;"><a href="http://hd.engadget.com/2007/08/24/sanyo-s-lp-z2000-3lcd-projector-ugly-but-a-great-personality/">Sanyo' s LP-Z2000 3LCD projector: ugly, but a great personality</a> originally appeared on <a href="http://hd.engadget.com">Engadget HD</a> on Fri, 24 Aug 2007 06:34:00 EST.
