Despite all the product rivalry at CES, a little romance was inevitable -- and not just in the <a href="http://www.engadget.com/2012/01/11/a-behind-the-scenes-look-at-the-engadget-ces-stage/">Engadget trailer</a>. WOWee, purveyor of the <a href="http://www.engadget.com/2010/04/26/wowee-one-portable-speaker-latches-onto-surfaces-ipads-coattai/">ONE portable speaker</a>, has paired up with MicroVision and its dashing <a href="http://www.engadget.com/2011/07/16/microvisions-showwx-pico-projector-gets-hdmi-upgrade/">PicoP laser projector</a> technology (shown above) to create a "marriage of sight and sound." It looks like the two companies will start out by simply bundling their respective wares, which will be available together in 120 countries from this quarter, rather than rushing to announce a hybrid device straight away. A wise decision, no doubt.<p style="padding:5px;background:#ddd;border:1px solid #ccc;clear:both;"><a href="http://www.engadget.com/2012/01/13/wowee-and-microvision-offer-200-inch-viewing-and-booming-sound/">WOWee and MicroVision offer 200-inch viewing and 'booming sound' on your mobile</a> originally appeared on <a href="http://www.engadget.com">Engadget</a> on Fri, 13 Jan 2012 15:04:00 EST. Well, we can't decide if this is one of the cheesiest or most clever event invites in CE history. <a href="http://www.engadget.com/tag/Sony">Sony's</a> PR arm just sent us an e-vite to the marriage of Sony Electronics Home Division and Sony Entertainment Network, simplified to "Television and Internet" on the company's appropriately generic Wedsite wedding page. Now this won't be a cheap Vegas wedding by any means -- the ceremony will take place at the Bellagio Wedding Chapel on the evening of January 11th, with a "Reception Immediately Following." Since this is technically a marriage between cousins, we've spent time with both the bride (Bravia) and the groom (Sony Entertainment Network -- or SEN, when among friends), so we mean no offense if forced to choose sides in the chapel. Coincidentally, we'll <a href="http://www.engadget.com/2011/11/29/engadget-the-official-online-news-source-of-ces-2012-and-the-ce/">already be in town</a>, so we may pop in to greet the likes of family members "Al Gore, Father of the Internet" and <a href="http://www.engadget.com/2011/08/31/sony-hmz-t1-headset-hits-ifa-we-go-hands-on-video/">HMZ-T1</a>, aka "Aunt Madge." Care to come along? The couple-to-be's site appears to be open to all, so hit up the source link to sign the guest book and send in your RSVP.<p style="padding:5px;background:#ddd;border:1px solid #ccc;clear:both;"><a href="http://www.engadget.com/2011/12/21/sony-divisions-to-elope-in-vegas-celebrate-the-marriage-of-tele/">Sony divisions to elope in Vegas, celebrate the marriage of Television and Internet at CES 2012</a> originally appeared on <a href="http://www.engadget.com">Engadget</a> on Wed, 21 Dec 2011 13:34:00 EST. Unless you proposed from orbit, chances are your <a href="http://www.engadget.com/2007/12/26/iphone-marriage-proposal-warms-even-the-cynical-heart/">marriage request</a> was not nearly as elaborate as Gary Hudston's. And, perhaps outside of 2008's <a href="http://www.engadget.com/2008/03/07/homebrew-bejeweled-game-used-to-initiate-marriage-proposal/">homebrew Bejeweled proposal</a>, no where near as geeky either. Hudston hired a skilled developer to create series of custom levels for <a href="http://www.engadget.com/tag/portal"><em>Portal 2</em></a> that his potential betrothed would have to play through. When it heard about his apparently not so secret project, Valve even helped him secure Ellen McLain, the voice of GLaDOS, to record original audio. You can check out the hilarious and heartwarming video after the break or just play through the levels yourself by downloading them at the source link. Sadly, unless you happen to be the future Mrs. Hudston, you'll be no closer to marrying yourself off after solving its puzzles.<p><a href="http://www.engadget.com/2011/08/24/proposing-with-portals-how-really-romantic-gamers-pop-the-quest/" rel="bookmark">Continue reading <em>Proposing with portals: how really romantic gamers pop the question</em></a></p><p style="padding:5px;background:#ddd;border:1px solid #ccc;clear:both;"><a href="http://www.engadget.com/2011/08/24/proposing-with-portals-how-really-romantic-gamers-pop-the-quest/">Proposing with portals: how really romantic gamers pop the question</a> originally appeared on <a href="http://www.engadget.com">Engadget</a> on Wed, 24 Aug 2011 07:01:00 EST. Dearly beloved, we are gathered here today to introduce to you perhaps the most outlandish <a href="http://www.engadget.com/tag/concept/">concept</a> we've seen all year. Looking something akin to a Moroccan Barbie accessory, and sporting a small portrait of Jesus Christ, the AutoWed Wedding machine has blasphemy written all over it. Pop in a dollar or a pound, depending on your location, and in moments you're served with a pair of plastic wedding bands and a personalized certificate, (unofficially) sealing the deal. And to think we ever raised a brow at that <a href="http://www.engadget.com/2010/10/22/live-crab-vending-machine-makes-us-think-there-could-be-better-u/">live crab vending machine</a>.<p><a href="http://www.engadget.com/2011/06/24/autowed-vending-machine-concept-offers-marriage-of-convenience/" rel="bookmark">Continue reading <em>AutoWed vending machine concept offers marriage of convenience, nuptials at $1 a pop (video)</em></a></p><p style="padding:5px;background:#ddd;border:1px solid #ccc;clear:both;"><a href="http://www.engadget.com/2011/06/24/autowed-vending-machine-concept-offers-marriage-of-convenience/">AutoWed vending machine concept offers marriage of convenience, nuptials at $1 a pop (video)</a> originally appeared on <a href="http://www.engadget.com">Engadget</a> on Fri, 24 Jun 2011 09:24:00 EST. Don't act surprised. Japan, the land that just can't get enough of <a href="http://www.engadget.com/2010/04/23/japan-plans-mind-reading-robots-and-brain-interface-devices-by/">robots</a> -- whether it's for <a href="http://www.engadget.com/2009/08/07/video-robots-cook-delicious-ramen-noodles-for-expendable-humans/">cooking</a>, <a href="http://www.engadget.com/2009/11/30/doka-harumis-robot-dance-routine-fills-us-with-shame-for-humani/">entertainment</a> or <a href="http://www.engadget.com/2010/03/22/giant-gundam-statue-returns-with-beam-saber-to-threaten-mt-fuji/">interstellar warfare</a> -- now also conducts its weddings with the help of a ceremonial drone. Tomohiro Shibata and Satoko Inoue, who met in the course of their work in robotics, decided that getting married with the help of the I-Fairy bot you see above was a "natural choice." We'll just assume that's a translational quirk and not an ultra-ironic statement from the happy couple. The I-Fairy isn't quite <a href="http://www.engadget.com/2010/04/05/hiroshi-ishiguros-geminoid-f-humanoid-mimics-earthlings-is-def/">as realistic</a> as some of <a href="http://www.engadget.com/tag/kokoro">Kokoro</a>'s other humanoids, but it does come with flashing, anime-sized eyes, which we're gonna go ahead and assume are popular over in Nippon. Video after the break.<p><a href="http://www.engadget.com/2010/05/17/i-fairy-weds-a-couple-of-japanese-robot-geeks-video/" rel="bookmark">Continue reading <em>I-Fairy weds a couple of Japanese robot geeks (video)</em></a></p><p style="padding:5px;background:#ddd;border:1px solid #ccc;clear:both;"><a href="http://www.engadget.com/2010/05/17/i-fairy-weds-a-couple-of-japanese-robot-geeks-video/">I-Fairy weds a couple of Japanese robot geeks (video)</a> originally appeared on <a href="http://www.engadget.com">Engadget</a> on Mon, 17 May 2010 05:03:00 EST. Ok, ok, "she" isn't <em>really</em> getting married, that would be illegal outside of <a href="http://www.engadget.com/2007/10/16/sex-with-massachusetts-robots-by-2050-wicked/">Massachusetts</a>. Besides, <a href="http://www.engadget.com/tag/hrp-4c">HRP-4C</a> is already hitched, apparently, to her creator Kazuhito Yokoi who appeared at the Osaka fashion show dressed in a tuxedo. Looking wobbly, perplexed, and creepy as hell, HRP-4C bravely slipped on a helmet of taffeta and lace in what's being called her first professional runway appearance. The crowd seemed to enjoy it until HRP-4C turned on them with her green lasers. Really, see for yourself in the unsettling video embedded after the break.<br /><br />[Via <a href="http://news.cnet.com/8301-17938_105-10293197-1.html?part=rss&amp;tag=feed&amp;subj=Crave">Crave</a>]<p><a href="http://www.engadget.com/2009/07/23/video-hrp-4c-model-robot-is-getting-married-wont-shut-up-ab/" rel="bookmark">Continue reading <em>Video: HRP-4C 'fashion robot' is getting married, won't shut up about it</em></a></p><p>Filed under: <a href="http://www.engadget.com/category/robots/" rel="tag">Robots</a></p><p style="padding:5px;background:#ddd;border:1px solid #ccc;clear:both;"><a href="http://www.engadget.com/2009/07/23/video-hrp-4c-model-robot-is-getting-married-wont-shut-up-ab/">Video: HRP-4C 'fashion robot' is getting married, won't shut up about it</a> originally appeared on <a href="http://www.engadget.com">Engadget</a> on Thu, 23 Jul 2009 02:34:00 EST. Shockingly enough, the image you see above isn't as radical as you probably think. Just last year we saw a San Francisco couple profess their <a href="http://www.engadgethd.com/2007/05/15/tivo-takes-the-cake-at-san-francisco-wedding/">inexplicable love for TiVo</a> with a his and her cake arrangement, while another treated guests to a <a href="http://www.engadget.com/2004/07/02/ipod-mini-wedding-cake/">flavorful version</a> of their wedding day playlist. This perky pair, however, decided to create cakes that would visually describe just how they ended up together, complete with on-screen profiles and a crossover cable (or something) with a heart along the way. Gives a whole new meaning to the networking category, now doesn't it?<p>Filed under: <a href="http://www.engadget.com/category/networking/" rel="tag">Networking</a></p><p style="padding:5px;background:#ddd;border:1px solid #ccc;clear:both;"><a href="http://www.engadget.com/2008/06/23/laptop-cakes-pay-homage-to-internet-dating/">Laptop cakes pay homage to internet dating</a> originally appeared on <a href="http://www.engadget.com">Engadget</a> on Mon, 23 Jun 2008 08:44:00 EST. Although this is far from being the <a href="http://www.engadgethd.com/2007/05/15/tivo-takes-the-cake-at-san-francisco-wedding/">weirdest union</a> (or <a href="http://www.engadgetmobile.com/2007/12/26/iphone-marriage-proposal-warms-even-the-cynical-heart/">proposal</a>, for that matter) we've ever seen, Xanga user p3ng decided to throw tradition to the wind (at least momentarily) when proposing to his now-fianc&eacute;e. Put simply, he built a custom version of Bejeweled (the lady's favorite game in the whole wide world) in which a pixelated engagement ring scrolled onto the screen once a certain score was hit. Needless to say, his awestruck girlfriend could barely contain her excitement as she uttered "yes," and we absolutely expect the <a href="http://www.engadget.com/2007/05/18/guitar-zeros-rock-out-with-guitar-hero-axes/">Guitar Zeros</a> to be the house band at the forthcoming reception.<br /><br />[Via <a href="http://www.dsfanboy.com/2008/03/06/man-proposes-using-homebrew-bejeweled/">DSFanboy</a>]<p>Filed under: <a href="http://www.engadget.com/category/gaming/" rel="tag">Gaming</a>, <a href="http://www.engadget.com/category/handhelds/" rel="tag">Handhelds</a></p><p style="padding:5px;background:#ddd;border:1px solid #ccc;clear:both;"><a href="http://www.engadget.com/2008/03/07/homebrew-bejeweled-game-used-to-initiate-marriage-proposal/">Homebrew Bejeweled game used to initiate marriage proposal</a> originally appeared on <a href="http://www.engadget.com">Engadget</a> on Fri, 07 Mar 2008 14:02:00 EST. Maybe we just turn a bit sentimental during the holiday season, but damn it, we'll admit to getting a little choked up over reader Claude M's well-planned, <a href="http://www.engadget.com/2004/12/21/norwegian-dude-proposes-via-ipod-engraving/">uber-geeky proposal</a> to his girlfriend -- even if his method of choice did happen to employ the totally overexposed <a href="http://www.engadget.com/tag/iPhone/">iPhone</a>. Being the romantic fellow that he is, Claude spent what must have been numerous hours producing a video proposal in the style of those ubiquitous commercials -- as you can see after the break -- and then screened it for his sweetheart (probably on his or her you-know-what) while they were strolling around the area where they'd first met in college. We'd like to congratulate the happy couple -- she said yes, duh -- and encourage them to race over to our <a href="http://www.engadget.com/2007/12/25/merry-christmas-win-two-round-trip-tickets-on-jetblue-noise-c/">Christmas contest post</a>, where they could score a pair of round trip tickets for the honeymoon.<p><a href="http://www.engadget.com/2007/12/26/iphone-marriage-proposal-warms-even-the-cynical-heart/" rel="bookmark">Continue reading <em>iPhone marriage proposal warms even the cynical heart</em></a></p><p>Filed under: <a href="http://www.engadget.com/category/apple/" rel="tag">Apple</a></p><p style="padding:5px;background:#ddd;border:1px solid #ccc;clear:both;"><a href="http://www.engadget.com/2007/12/26/iphone-marriage-proposal-warms-even-the-cynical-heart/">iPhone marriage proposal warms even the cynical heart</a> originally appeared on <a href="http://www.engadget.com">Engadget</a> on Wed, 26 Dec 2007 09:36:00 EST. Having read the title above, we ask you: how do you feel? <a href="http://www.engadget.com/2007/10/12/u-tsu-shi-o-mi/">Titillated at the prospect </a>or fearful for the little babies? Either way, if artificial intelligence researcher David Levy of the University of Maastricht is to be believed, we'll be consummating relationships with our <a href="http://www.engadget.com/2007/10/01/study-finds-roomba-owners-heart-their-vacuums-accept-flaws/">anatomically correct Roombas</a> by mid-century. Ironically, even though the city of Maastricht sits in free-livin' Netherlands, Levy predicts that Massachusetts will be first to legalize human-robot marriage due to its liberal attitude toward same-sex marriages. He envisions those early man-machine marriages falling victim to the same cultural taboos affecting interracial marriages. However, just as those are accepted over time, so will committed robot-hookups be seen as "normal" as the practice becomes more common. According to Levy, "once you have a story like 'I had sex with a robot, and it was great!' appear someplace like Cosmo magazine, I'd expect many people to jump on the bandwagon." Hear that <em>Digg</em> users? The cure to nerdonic-celibacy is all up to you.<br /><br />[Via <a href="http://www.tgdaily.com/content/view/34372/118/">TG Daily</a>]<p>Filed under: <a href="http://www.engadget.com/category/robots/" rel="tag">Robots</a></p><p style="padding:5px;background:#ddd;border:1px solid #ccc;clear:both;"><a href="http://www.engadget.com/2007/10/16/sex-with-massachusetts-robots-by-2050-wicked/">Sex with Massachusetts Robots by 2050 -- wicked!</a> originally appeared on <a href="http://www.engadget.com">Engadget</a> on Tue, 16 Oct 2007 03:05:00 EST. We'd highly recommend spending a bit more time (and money) on the actual ring rather than the box it comes in, but for those looking to wow your tech-savvy fianc&eacute;e even more when popping the question, take a look at Euri's multimedia ring box. This ring holder sports a two-inch LCD internally, along with a clock, calender and alarm, and is available in a number of hues. There's even an unspecified amount of internal storage included, and you can upload your favorite pre-engagement photos via USB and have them displayed on the big day. Thanks to a group of engineering minds at the university, a new <a href="http://www.engadget.com/tag/virtual%20reality/">augmented reality</a> game (dubbed AR Facade) is placing you in the center of a marital spat with nearly limitless options. The program apparently runs on a back-worn laptop and utilizes an oh-so-tacky <a href="http://www.engadget.com/search/?q=head%20mountable%20display">head mountable display</a>, and developers suggest that being placed in the midst of an "interactive drama" allows you to choose sides, attempt to mediate, and basically "define your own way to win" as you try to talk some sense into the flustered couple. Interestingly, there's even talk of bringing such games "onto mobile phones" and into the workplace, but it looks like they've got a bit of hardware trimming to do first.<br /><br />[Via <a href="http://www.therawfeed.com/2007/06/augmented-reality-game-marriage.html">The Raw Feed</a>]<p>Filed under: <a href="http://www.engadget.com/category/gaming/" rel="tag">Gaming</a></p><p style="padding:5px;background:#ddd;border:1px solid #ccc;clear:both;"><a href="http://www.engadget.com/2007/06/21/augmented-reality-relationship-game-plays-with-your-emotions/">Augmented reality relationship game plays with your emotions</a> originally appeared on <a href="http://www.engadget.com">Engadget</a> on Thu, 21 Jun 2007 03:28:00 EST. Although we can't be certain if Andy and Tina Szeto attended a <a href="http://www.engadget.com/2007/05/13/nintendos-wii-a-marriage-saver/">Wii marriage counseling</a> session before tying the knot, the television crazed couple did invite a healthy helping of <a href="http://www.engadget.com/tag/tivo">TiVo</a> to join in their matrimonial celebration. Granted, they did stop short of rocking <a href="http://www.engadget.com/2006/08/01/cutecircuits-kiss-me-interactive-wedding-attire/">interactive wedding attire</a>, but the two lovebirds did indeed have a pair of his and her TiVo cakes proudly perched beside the more traditional rendition, and to show its appreciation, TiVo actually <a href="http://www.engadget.com/2006/12/22/tivo-fundraising-with-self-branded-toasters-snowglobes/">donated</a> a plethora of smiling plush dolls as party favors. Not to be sold short, the company also gave each member in attendance their own felt TiVo ears for maximum geekness all around, and created quite the marketing scene in the process. It's fairly obvious that using the Wii to <a href="http://www.engadget.com/2007/01/18/wii-sports-experiment-sheds-nine-pounds/">keep yourself slim and trim</a> is bound to put a smile on your SO's face, but a curious banner at a presumed <a href="http://www.engadget.com/search/?q=church">church</a> used Nintendo's console (and its token font, too) to hint at answers to a successful marriage. Of course, a couple interested in spending countless hours of quality time gaming away with each other are indeed more likely to find common ground, but for the uber-competitive type, gaming together could lead to more quibbles than friendly laughs. Nevertheless, it shouldn't be surprising that a religious institution would tap into <a href="http://www.engadget.com/2006/02/22/life-360/">mainstream culture</a> in order to garner attention to its offerings, and hey, if you've got to go to counseling for only taking "<a href="http://www.engadget.com/2007/01/26/sculptor-crafting-3d-replicas-of-your-mii/">Mii</a>" into consideration, you may as well get your game on while you're at it.<br /><br />[Via <a href="http://www.nintendowiifanboy.com/2007/05/11/wii-for-love-wii-for-life/">NintendoWiiFanboy</a>]<p>Filed under: <a href="http://www.engadget.com/category/gaming/" rel="tag">Gaming</a></p><p style="padding:5px;background:#ddd;border:1px solid #ccc;clear:both;"><a href="http://www.engadget.com/2007/05/13/nintendos-wii-a-marriage-saver/">Nintendo's Wii: a marriage saver?</a> originally appeared on <a href="http://www.engadget.com">Engadget</a> on Sun, 13 May 2007 00:29:00 EST. Apparently, a British fellow who couldn't get a <a href="http://www.engadget.com/2006/09/08/this-is-your-cellphone-this-is-your-cellphone-on-drugs/">random phone number</a> out of his head following a presumably potent dream decided to text the number and inquire if he had met the person the night prior. As these things always do, <a href="http://www.engadget.com/2004/12/21/norwegian-dude-proposes-via-ipod-engraving/">one thing led to another</a>, and eventually the two ended up meeting, and as fate would have it, they fell head over heels in love. Aside from the sap, the couple actually went so far as to get <a href="http://www.engadget.com/2005/09/21/who-wants-a-wedding-dj-when-youve-got-an-ipod/">married</a> and flee to Goa for their honeymoon after "a long courtship." Let us be the first to say "congrats" to Mr. Brown, but you should be aware that the DVR is <a href="http://www.engadget.com/2005/07/18/survey-says-women-control-the-dvr/">no longer</a> under your control, and choosing your iPod over the lady could evidently lead to some <a href="http://www.engadget.com/2007/01/16/1-in-8-blokes-would-swap-their-lady-for-a-must-have-gadget/">seriously dirty looks</a>.<br /><br />[Via <a href="http://forums.fark.com/cgi/fark/comments.pl?IDLink=2728814">Fark</a>]<p>Filed under: <a href="http://www.engadget.com/category/messaging/" rel="tag">Messaging</a></p><p style="padding:5px;background:#ddd;border:1px solid #ccc;clear:both;"><a href="http://www.engadget.com/2007/04/10/british-bloke-marries-woman-after-randomly-texting-her/">British bloke marries woman after randomly texting her</a> originally appeared on <a href="http://www.engadget.com">Engadget</a> on Tue, 10 Apr 2007 23:56:00 EST.
