The first <a href="http://www.engadget.com/2010/07/20/deces-digital-locker-take-anywhere-drm-dubbed-ultraviolet/">UltraViolet-enabled</a> disks wont actually appear on shelves till tomorrow, but that doesn't mean you can't get a head start on migrating to DECE's <a href="http://www.engadget.com/2011/08/03/time-warner-ceo-talks-hbo-go-expansion-first-ultraviolet-digit/">buy once, play anywhere</a> platform. The digital locker is now open for business (sort of) and consumers can go sign up for an account right now. Sadly, there isn't much you can do just yet. Though the <a href="http://www.engadget.com/2011/08/10/warner-preps-for-ultraviolet-with-flixster-collections-app-to-ma/">Flixster app</a> for PCs and iOS was updated to add UltraViolet support, there doesn't appear to be anyway to link your various accounts (like iTunes or Netflix) with the service just yet. An account can have up to six different users associated with it, and you can control what content they will have access too -- a feature sure to be welcome by families with children. If you want to be able to purchase your flicks once and take them anywhere, right now your only hope is UltraViolet and Blu-ray discs bearing its logo -- a slow trickle of titles which begins October 11th with <em>Horrible Bosses</em>.<p style="padding:5px;background:#ddd;border:1px solid #ccc;clear:both;"><a href="http://www.engadget.com/2011/10/10/ultraviolet-digital-locker-opens-for-business-lets-you-buy-on/">UltraViolet 'digital locker' opens for business. When we took a look at Seagate's GoFlex Satellite <a href="http://www.engadget.com/2011/05/16/seagates-goflex-satellite-portable-hard-drive-streams-content-o/">back in May</a>, we recommended that non-iOS buyers hold off until the company rolled out an app for different operating systems. Android users take note, the storage company today took the wraps off of an app that lets users wirelessly stream content like HD videos from the external hard drive to devices running their favorite dessert-themed mobile OS. No internet connection is required to stream, you just need to be in range of the drive. The 500GB GoFlex Satellite has a built-in battery that can stream video for up to five hours. The drive will run you $200, but the Android app is decidedly more free. With Microsoft planning a <a href="http://www.engadget.com/2011/01/14/the-home-theater-pc-is-dead-long-live-windows-media-center/">move away from the HTPC space</a> and a shift to <a href="http://www.engadget.com/2011/01/06/gateway-media-console-with-cablecard-and-windows-embedded-standa/">Windows Media Center embedded</a> products, perhaps the gang at Moovida is looking to take Redmond's place in the home theater geek segment. The company has unleashed a beautiful new media browsing UI called 'Immersed' that's powered by a 3D game engine, a fact which makes its <a href="http://hd.engadget.com/2010/05/21/google-tv-who-is-the-competition-and-what-are-they-saying-about/">media center brethren</a> look dowdy in comparison. There is a steep price to pay for this digital eye candy, however, as the current version lacks the ability to stream content -- so no Netflix, Hulu, or YouTube for you. Moovida's software also packs an underlying desktop-optimized UI, 'Core', that provides automated media backup and cataloging, syncs your music and video with peripherals, and plays any non-DRM content known to man. Presently in beta, Moovida promises greater functionality in future releases and we can only hope that means streaming capability is coming soon, as in <i>immediately</i>.<p style="padding:5px;background:#ddd;border:1px solid #ccc;clear:both;"><a href="http://www.engadget.com/2011/01/28/moovidas-new-media-center-software-has-great-looks-so-so-perso/">Moovida's new media center software has great looks, so-so personality</a> originally appeared on <a href="http://www.engadget.com">Engadget</a> on Fri, 28 Jan 2011 19:13:00 EST. You know, <a href="http://www.engadget.com/tag/RFID/">RFID</a> hasn't done much for itself in the consumer market. To most average Joes and Janes, the tech is really only around for use in complex supply chains and warehouses that they'd rather block from their minds. Thanks to Roteno Labs, we now have at least one glorious example of just how awesome RFID tags truly are, as the RFiDJ project demonstrates how tagged coasters can be used to instantly switch playlists stored on an <a href="http://www.engadget.com/tag/HTPC/">HTPC</a>. You simply set a designated coaster on top of the machine, and within seconds a new playlist is activated. We hear that videos actually do speak louder than words, so we'll just stop here and beg you to hop on past the break for a memorable encounter with splendiferousness.<p><a href="http://www.engadget.com/2009/11/10/rfidj-the-coaster-controlled-htpc-switches-playlists-while-you/" rel="bookmark">Continue reading <em>RFiDJ: the coaster-controlled HTPC switches playlists while you switch drinks (video)</em></a></p><p>Filed under: <a href="http://www.engadget.com/category/desktops/" rel="tag">Desktops</a>, <a href="http://www.engadget.com/category/homeentertainment/" rel="tag">Home Entertainment</a>, <a href="http://www.engadget.com/category/mediapcs/" rel="tag">Media PCs</a></p><p style="padding:5px;background:#ddd;border:1px solid #ccc;clear:both;"><a href="http://www.engadget.com/2009/11/10/rfidj-the-coaster-controlled-htpc-switches-playlists-while-you/">RFiDJ: the coaster-controlled HTPC switches playlists while you switch drinks (video)</a> originally appeared on <a href="http://www.engadget.com">Engadget</a> on Tue, 10 Nov 2009 10:41:00 EST. Scant hours after the SDV tuning, DRM-relaxing firmware update for Vista and Windows 7 Digital Cable Tuner users became available, <em>Missing Remote</em> let us know Microsoft has come through on the other half of its <a href="http://www.engadgethd.com/2009/09/09/media-center-cablecards-freed-from-oem-requirement/">CEDIA promise</a> by pushing the Digital Cable Advisor to Media Center Extras galleries everywhere. This half should enable all Windows 7 PCs to work with the CableCard tuners, sans-OEM requirement or <a href="http://www.engadgethd.com/2009/05/12/how-to-install-a-cablecard-tuner-in-your-diy-media-center/">inconvenient hacking</a>. Sure <a href="http://www.engadgethd.com/2009/09/25/microsoft-media-center-cedia-predictions-wrap-up/">we could ask for more</a> from Windows 7 Media Center, but for now Netflix and these two (in less than 100 days) will have to do.<br /> <br /> <a href="http://www.missingremote.com/index.php?option=com_content&amp;task=view&amp;id=4361&amp;Itemid=1">Read</a> - MCE: Digital Cable Advisor Tool Available Now!<br /> <a href="http://www.engadgethd.com/2009/11/06/ati-dct-firmware-update-pops-up-on-windows-update-drm-free-mce/">Read</a> - ATI DCT Firmware update pops up on Windows Update, DRM-free MCE recordings are a go<p>Filed under: <a href="http://www.engadget.com/category/homeentertainment/" rel="tag">Home Entertainment</a>, <a href="http://www.engadget.com/category/mediapcs/" rel="tag">Media PCs</a></p><p style="padding:5px;background:#ddd;border:1px solid #ccc;clear:both;"><a href="http://www.engadget.com/2009/11/06/microsoft-emancipates-digital-cable-tuners-with-second-media-cen/">Microsoft emancipates Digital Cable Tuners with second Media Center update today</a> originally appeared on <a href="http://www.engadget.com">Engadget</a> on Fri, 06 Nov 2009 22:19:00 EST. There was a time when the X in XBMC stood for Xbox, but now just look at it. The open source project is showing up on everything from <a href="http://www.engadget.com/2008/12/29/xmbc-caught-running-on-compals-jax10-mid/">MIDs</a> to <a href="http://www.engadget.com/2008/10/01/boxee-xbMc-now-available-on-apple-tv/">Apple TVs</a> and soon will be in the wild running on ARM-powered devices, with the development team posting a teaser video of the software running quite well on a tiny 600MHz <a href="http://www.engadget.com/tag/beagleboard">Beagleboard</a>. It's a fraction of the size of most HTPCs and, at $150, a fraction of their cost, too. Right now the software seems to be struggling a bit with what looks to be 480p wide content, but the devs promise proper HD playback in the full release -- though they're not saying when that full release will be.<p><a href="http://www.engadget.com/2009/11/02/xbmc-arm-port-teased-will-manage-hd-playback-from-pocket-sized/" rel="bookmark">Continue reading <em>XBMC ARM port teased, will manage HD playback from pocket-sized Beagleboard (video)</em></a></p><p>Filed under: <a href="http://www.engadget.com/category/homeentertainment/" rel="tag">Home Entertainment</a>, <a href="http://www.engadget.com/category/mediapcs/" rel="tag">Media PCs</a>, <a href="http://www.engadget.com/category/software/" rel="tag">Software</a></p><p style="padding:5px;background:#ddd;border:1px solid #ccc;clear:both;"><a href="http://www.engadget.com/2009/11/02/xbmc-arm-port-teased-will-manage-hd-playback-from-pocket-sized/">XBMC ARM port teased, will manage HD playback from pocket-sized Beagleboard (video)</a> originally appeared on <a href="http://www.engadget.com">Engadget</a> on Mon, 02 Nov 2009 10:05:00 EST. <a href="http://www.engadget.com/2009/10/02/flip-video-remote-control-shows-up-at-fcc-bigger-things-to-co/">Flip Video remote</a>, meet your family. One of <a href="http://www.engadget.com/tag/Cisco/">Cisco</a>'s latest FCC filings happened to keep its user manual outside the seal of confidentiality, giving us a pretty good look at FlipShareTV, a setup for streaming recorded video from the computer's FlipShare software, out the USB dongle transmitted wirelessly to the receiver connected to the TV... and that's about it. Nothing too thrilling here, and there's no indication of price or release date. More pictures below -- any Flip enthusiasts actually excited by this?<br />

Those already upgraded to Windows 7 ahead of Thursday's launch events (no, we're not coming to your party) should find a Netflix button parked under the Movies section in Media Center starting today. Clicking it revealed a slightly smoother install process than the initial <a href="http://www.engadgethd.com/2009/05/20/netflix-watch-instantly-comes-to-vista-media-center-not-extende/">Netflix upgrade for Vista users</a> last spring, then it's off to the refreshed interface we <a href="http://www.engadgethd.com/2009/09/10/windows-7-to-get-a-better-version-of-netflix-than-vista/">first spotted at CEDIA</a> -- extender support or HD streaming is still out. Also updated is the out-of-beta internet TV sliding under the TV tab (new from beta 2: Adobe Flash video support and region locking) with a wide assortment of streaming video available, though the picture quality <a href="http://www.engadgethd.com/2009/05/16/hands-on-with-microsofts-internet-tv-beta-2-still-unwatchable/">still leaves something to be desired</a>.<br />

<div align="left">Otherwise content users of <a href="http://www.engadget.com/tag/Boxee/">Boxee</a> or <a href="http://www.engadget.com/tag/Hulu/">Hulu</a> on the big screen in the living room, the tyranny of the keyboard and mouse may finally be over! GlideTV Navigator is a palm-sized remote control that features a trackpad and backlit AV buttons, just the thing to further enable your YouTube addiction beyond the confines of your computer nook. Works with Windows XP or Vista (we're assuming there's a Windows 7 version on tap as well), Mac OS X, and the Sony PS3, and the package includes a charging cradle and USB receiver. Sadly, the on-screen keyboard and integrated search apps are Windows only for the time being. Look to spend about $149 -- but not before peeping the gallery below.<br /><div class="postgallery"><p><strong>Gallery: <a href="http://www.engadget.com/photos/glidetv-navigator-puts-media-center-controls-in-the-plam-of-your-hand/">GlideTV Navigator puts Media Center controls in the palm of your hand</a></strong></p><a href="http://www.engadget.com/photos/glidetv-navigator-puts-media-center-controls-in-the-plam-of-your-hand/#2360654"><img src="http://www.blogcdn.com/www.engadget.com/media/2009/10/091013-glidetvnavigator-g04_thumbnail.jpg" alt="" title="" /></a><a href="http://www.engadget.com/photos/glidetv-navigator-puts-media-center-controls-in-the-plam-of-your-hand/#2360653"><img src="http://www.blogcdn.com/www.engadget.com/media/2009/10/091013-glidetvnavigator-g03_thumbnail.jpg" alt="" title="" /></a><a href="http://www.engadget.com/photos/glidetv-navigator-puts-media-center-controls-in-the-plam-of-your-hand/#2360652"><img src="http://www.blogcdn.com/www.engadget.com/media/2009/10/091013-glidetvnavigator-g02_thumbnail.jpg" alt="" title="" /></a><a href="http://www.engadget.com/photos/glidetv-navigator-puts-media-center-controls-in-the-plam-of-your-hand/#2360651"><img src="http://www.blogcdn.com/www.engadget.com/media/2009/10/091013-glidetvnavigator-g01_thumbnail.jpg" alt="" title="" /></a></div><br /></div>

Sony has a long history of <a href="http://www.engadget.com/tag/vaio,all-in-one">VAIO all-in-one</a> machines, usually taking the party line by offering swank aesthetics combined with slightly cringe-inducing price tags. When <a href="http://www.engadget.com/2009/10/07/vaio-l-is-sonys-first-touchscreen-pc-starts-at-1-300/">we went hands</a> on with its latest, the VAIO L, we found it to look just as good as those earlier ones, but its $1,300 price tag to be rather fair. Built into a 24-inch, 1920 x 1080 (1080p) touchscreen it's meant to serve as both an HDTV and a PC, featuring an HDMI inport where you can plug in your PS3. Yes, that's what mom calls it before she starts rocking out with the kiddos in the video after the break. It has a 500GB drive for your apps and for DVR recordings through Windows 7 Premium, packs a Blu-ray writer, a Core 2 Duo processor, and "loads of RAM." Sure, there are cheaper ways to get an all-in-one, but only one comes standard with an inport.<p><a href="http://www.engadget.com/2009/10/09/sonys-vaio-l-1080p-all-in-one-pc-is-perfect-for-rockin-moms-v/" rel="bookmark">Continue reading <em>Sony's VAIO L 1080p all-in-one PC is perfect for rockin' moms (video)</em></a></p><p>Filed under: <a href="http://www.engadget.com/category/desktops/" rel="tag">Desktops</a>, <a href="http://www.engadget.com/category/displays/" rel="tag">Displays</a>, <a href="http://www.engadget.com/category/mediapcs/" rel="tag">Media PCs</a></p><p style="padding:5px;background:#ddd;border:1px solid #ccc;clear:both;"><a href="http://www.engadget.com/2009/10/09/sonys-vaio-l-1080p-all-in-one-pc-is-perfect-for-rockin-moms-v/">Sony's VAIO L 1080p all-in-one PC is perfect for rockin' moms (video)</a> originally appeared on <a href="http://www.engadget.com">Engadget</a> on Fri, 09 Oct 2009 08:26:00 EST. Continuing its streak of questionably high priced media PCs <a href="http://www.engadgethd.com/tag/okoro">Okoro</a> has announced the new OMS-Q100 and OMS-Q200 Quantum mini Digital Entertainment Systems. Combining an Intel Atom processor and NVIDIA ION in the OMS-Q200 and Mobile Core 2 Duo in the OMS-Q200 with 4GB of RAM with 320GB of hard drive space, 7.1 audio outputs, OTA &amp; QAM recording capability (plus optional digital cable tuner) these tiny, quiet boxes could find a welcoming home theater somewhere, though the starting price of $1,295 may make for a difficult fit. Remember when the <a href="http://www.engadget.com/tag/ps3">PlayStation 3</a> was going to have dual-HDMI ports so that games could pump 1080p video to <em>two</em> displays simultaneously? Ahh, those were good 'ol days. That configuration obviously didn't come to pass, but VIA's looking to deliver dual-HDMI and more in its next integrated Mini-ITX solution, the VB8003, which also packs DVI and VGA ports, as well as an LVDS output, meaning it could control five displays at once (though with only four discrete signals). It uses the <a href="http://www.engadget.com/2008/12/18/vias-trinity-platform-brings-much-needed-religious-imagery-to-s/">Trinity Platform</a> with a 1.6GHz <a href="http://www.engadget.com/tag/vianano">Nano</a> processor, a VX800 Media System Processor, and an integrated <a href="http://www.engadget.com/tag/S3Graphics/">S3 GPU</a>, all paired with up to 4GB of memory. 1080p playback is said to be easily handled, with the system supporting resolutions of up to 2560 x 1600, even though such an onslaught of pixels would surely turn your HDTV into a smoldering ruin. There's no mention of price or availability yet, so you current set can relax -- for now.<p><a href="http://www.engadget.com/2009/09/22/video-vias-vb8003-mini-itx-board-has-dual-hdmi-could-rock-you/" rel="bookmark">Continue reading <em>Video: VIA's VB8003 Mini-ITX board has dual-HDMI, could rock your HTPC's world</em></a></p><p>Filed under: <a href="http://www.engadget.com/category/homeentertainment/" rel="tag">Home Entertainment</a>, <a href="http://www.engadget.com/category/mediapcs/" rel="tag">Media PCs</a></p><p style="padding:5px;background:#ddd;border:1px solid #ccc;clear:both;"><a href="http://www.engadget.com/2009/09/22/video-vias-vb8003-mini-itx-board-has-dual-hdmi-could-rock-you/">Video: VIA's VB8003 Mini-ITX board has dual-HDMI, could rock your HTPC's world</a> originally appeared on <a href="http://www.engadget.com">Engadget</a> on Tue, 22 Sep 2009 08:27:00 EST. Today is officially the first day of <a href="http://www.engadgethd.com/tag/CEDIA2009/">CEDIA Expo 2009</a> and now that Microsoft <a href="http://www.engadgethd.com/2009/09/09/media-center-cablecards-freed-from-oem-requirement/">has announced its Media Center news</a>, it's the partner's turn. Up first is <a href="http://www.engadgethd.com/tag/Nevius/">Nevius</a> which is of course releasing new Media Center PCs with <a href="http://www.engadgethd.com/tag/Windows7/">Windows 7</a>, so of course the new looser DRM and other features are included. Niveus is stepping up the hardware though too by adding RAID and SSD drives to the Pro Series, and also a new Windows Home Server requirement for its full system restoration capabilities. The other new offering is the aptly named White Glove service, which basically means the services to integrators is getting an upgrade. Prices are promised before the official launch on October 22nd, but based on the existing offering, we'd bet we still won't be able to afford it.<p><a href="http://www.engadget.com/2009/09/10/niveus-steps-up-media-centers-with-ssd-raid-and-white-gloves/" rel="bookmark">Continue reading <em>Niveus steps up Media Centers with SSD, RAID and white gloves</em></a></p><p>Filed under: <a href="http://www.engadget.com/category/hdtv/" rel="tag">HDTV</a>, <a href="http://www.engadget.com/category/homeentertainment/" rel="tag">Home Entertainment</a>, <a href="http://www.engadget.com/category/mediapcs/" rel="tag">Media PCs</a></p><p style="padding:5px;background:#ddd;border:1px solid #ccc;clear:both;"><a href="http://www.engadget.com/2009/09/10/niveus-steps-up-media-centers-with-ssd-raid-and-white-gloves/">Niveus steps up Media Centers with SSD, RAID and white gloves</a> originally appeared on <a href="http://www.engadget.com">Engadget</a> on Thu, 10 Sep 2009 09:16:00 EST. <div style="text-align: left;">That <a href="http://www.engadget.com/2008/09/05/screen-grabs-jerkface-verizon-fios-guy-brandishes-a-kindle/">smug FiOS guy</a> wants you to know that Verizon has announced the launch of <a href="http://www.engadget.com/tag/FiOSTV/">FiOS TV</a> Online, extending your sitcom addiction to yet another screen with on-demand programming from TNT and TBS (with other providers coming "soon," apparently). If you thought watching <em>Project Runway</em> on your <a href="http://www.engadgetmobile.com/tag/krave">Motorola Krave</a> was mind-blowing, wait until the latest Mark-Paul Gosselaar snoozefest is available any time, any day, on your laptop! We had a good feeling that Microsoft might have a thing or two to announce around Windows 7 Media Center at the upcoming <a href="http://www.engadgethd.com/tag/CEDIA/">CEDIA</a> show in Atlanta this September, but now we can start the official countdown. The after-hours event at ESPN Zone will help kick off the show in Atlanta at 6:30pm -- the event is invite only, but don't worry, we'll be brining you the events live as they happen. Although the specific announcements are <a href="http://www.engadgethd.com/2009/08/10/cedia-2009-windows-media-center-predictions/">anyone's guess</a>, the invite did let us know that all of the Windows Media Center news and updates will break there, as well as the winner of the Ultimate Install Contest. So that's just over two weeks until all your home media hopes will be fulfilled -- or destroyed -- depending on your perspective.<p>Filed under: <a href="http://www.engadget.com/category/hdtv/" rel="tag">HDTV</a>, <a href="http://www.engadget.com/category/homeentertainment/" rel="tag">Home Entertainment</a>, <a href="http://www.engadget.com/category/mediapcs/" rel="tag">Media PCs</a>, <a href="http://www.engadget.com/category/software/" rel="tag">Software</a></p><p style="padding:5px;background:#ddd;border:1px solid #ccc;clear:both;"><a href="http://www.engadget.com/2009/08/25/microsofts-cedia-event-september-9th-to-reveal-whats-new-in-me/">Microsoft's CEDIA event September 9th to reveal what's new in Media Center</a> originally appeared on <a href="http://www.engadget.com">Engadget</a> on Tue, 25 Aug 2009 15:12:00 EST. After seeing rumored launch dates <a href="http://www.engadget.com/2009/05/14/asus-eee-keyboard-to-launch-by-end-of-june/">come</a> and <a href="http://www.engadget.com/2009/06/25/asus-eee-keyboard-now-on-track-for-august-launch/">go</a>, out pops another, this time from <em>DigiTimes</em> and its Taiwanese industry sources who tend to be <a href="http://www.engadget.com/tag/digitimes,asus">pretty accurate</a> with hometown ASUS' plans. The date? October, with a price set to run between $400 and $500. <br /><br /><em>DigiTimes</em> also claims that the NVIDIA <a href="http://www.engadget.com/2009/06/01/asus-preparing-nvidia-ion-based-eee-box-b1006/">Ion-based Eee Box</a> should arrive in September as will that <a href="http://www.engadget.com/2009/08/18/asus-ion-based-eee-top-et2002t-makes-itself-known-in-france/">20-inch Eee Top</a>. We're not sure how this affects the <a href="http://www.engadgethd.com/2009/06/06/windows-version-of-boxee-open-to-all-june-23rd/">zero-dollar revenue goal for 2009</a>, but popular media player software <a href="http://www.engadgethd.com/tag/boxee">Boxee</a> announced it has closed a $6 million round of financing including a new partner, General Catalyst. We'll let the money men assess value, the key point for users is how this affects the company's plan to take the platform from underground darling to mainstream hit - embedding the software in <a href="http://www.engadgethd.com/tag/connectedtv">connected TVs</a>, Blu-ray player, game consoles and set-top boxes. With a <a href="http://www.engadgethd.com/2009/06/24/boxee-updates-windows-alpha-gone-public-mlb-tv-hd-streams-and/">Windows alpha release in the bag and latest support from MLB.tv</a> Boxee seems well on the way towards reaching larger audiences, CEO Avner Ronen says to look forward to the beta release this fall, more content deals and extending the <a href="http://www.engadgethd.com/2009/04/09/boxees-app-box-and-api-goes-live-could-come-to-other-hardware/">App Store</a> and API support. Our advice is to avoid tearing an ACL itself dancing on stage like another recent independent performer turned-mainstream star, what would you like to see from Boxee now that the company has more resources to provide it?<p>Filed under: <a href="http://www.engadget.com/category/homeentertainment/" rel="tag">Home Entertainment</a>, <a href="http://www.engadget.com/category/mediapcs/" rel="tag">Media PCs</a></p><p style="padding:5px;background:#ddd;border:1px solid #ccc;clear:both;"><a href="http://www.engadget.com/2009/08/12/boxee-locks-up-additional-funding-plots-route-from-underground/">Boxee locks up additional funding, plots route from underground to mainstream</a> originally appeared on <a href="http://www.engadget.com">Engadget</a> on Wed, 12 Aug 2009 21:48:00 EST. <div align="left">Looking for something in between a nettop and a full-fledged, sometimes HTPC? Then you might want to consider Lenovo's recently announced Q700 system, which the company describes as the "perfect fit" for anywhere in your home. That's apparently assuming you have some less-than-demanding computing needs, however, as the Q700 is currently only available with a Pentium Dual-Core E5200 processor, along with 4GB of RAM, a max 640GB hard drive, a built-in DVD burner, and the usual integrated Intel X4500 graphics. It does pack an HDMI out, TV tuner, and plenty of other media-friendly features, however, not to mention a starting price of just $499 and a form-factor that lets it be neatly tucked away in your home theater rack. Hit up the link below to get your order in, or a closer look if you're still undecided.<br /><br />[Thanks, David]</div>

You can tussle over semantics all day long (particularly machine translated semantics), but there's little doubt that Viako's <a href="http://www.engadget.com/tag/Ion/">Ion</a>-equipped machine is more than eager to handle whatever high-def material you throw its way. The Mini E series of HTPCs (or <a href="http://www.engadget.com/2009/03/06/asrock-debuts-atom-330-powered-nettop-s330-eyes-on/">nettops</a>, if you will) looks to be available in a variety of configurations, with the higher-end model snagging an Atom N330 processor, NVIDIA's GeForce 9400M GPU, 2GB of RAM, a 320GB hard drive, integrated WiFi, VGA / DVI / HDMI outputs, Ethernet, plenty of USB sockets and audio / in ports. There's no mention of price nor a stateside release date, but those in Seoul ought to find it in their local shops pretty soon.<br /><br />[Via <a href="http://translate.google.com/translate?u=http%3A%2F%2Fkr.aving.net%2Fnews%2Fview.php%3FarticleId%3D133765%26mn_name%3D&amp;sl=ko&amp;tl=en&amp;hl=en&amp;ie=UTF-8">AVING</a>]<p>Filed under: <a href="http://www.engadget.com/category/mediapcs/" rel="tag">Media PCs</a></p><p style="padding:5px;background:#ddd;border:1px solid #ccc;clear:both;"><a href="http://www.engadget.com/2009/08/12/viakos-ion-equipped-htpc-is-more-like-an-hd-capable-nettop/">Viako's Ion-equipped HTPC is more like an HD-capable nettop</a> originally appeared on <a href="http://www.engadget.com">Engadget</a> on Wed, 12 Aug 2009 06:19:00 EST. Everyone likes to try and predict the future and with the Custom Electronic Design &amp; Installation (<a href="http://www.engadget.com/tag/CEDIA/">CEDIA</a>) show only a month away, the crew at Engadget HD threw all of their crazy ideas out there for your reading pleasure. For the most part all of the predictions are around Windows Media Center and how it will integrate with other products like the <a href="http://www.engadget.com/tag/ZuneHD/">Zune HD</a>, Digital Cable and HD satellite services, but there are some other fun things throw in. We really believe that this is going to be the year that Redmond brings everything together, so if you're the type who doesn't think it'll ever happen, then <a href="http://www.engadgethd.com/2009/08/10/cedia-2009-windows-media-center-predictions/">click through</a> to find out why we think you're wrong. Either way, you can expect we'll be on the scene in Atlanta to check out what's new first hand.<p>Filed under: <a href="http://www.engadget.com/category/hdtv/" rel="tag">HDTV</a>, <a href="http://www.engadget.com/category/homeentertainment/" rel="tag">Home Entertainment</a>, <a href="http://www.engadget.com/category/mediapcs/" rel="tag">Media PCs</a></p><p style="padding:5px;background:#ddd;border:1px solid #ccc;clear:both;"><a href="http://www.engadget.com/2009/08/10/windows-media-center-is-set-to-thrill-at-cedia-2009-next-month/">Windows Media Center is set to thrill at CEDIA 2009 next month</a> originally appeared on <a href="http://www.engadget.com">Engadget</a> on Mon, 10 Aug 2009 11:17:00 EST. <br />If you've ever thought about forcing your Xbox 360 to do double duty and in addition to all the games you require it to host for you, set it up to replace your TiVo or cable company DVR, then now might just be the time. The reason is simple, in Windows 7, Microsoft has really made some nice improvements to Windows Media Center. What improvements you might ask? Glad you did, because over at Engadget HD the team <a href="http://www.engadgethd.com/2009/07/27/windows-7-media-center-review/">went over the changes with a fine-tooth comb</a>. This includes a comprehensive list of improvements and shortfalls in regards to using Windows 7 Media Center as a full time HD DVR as well as a few videos to really help you appreciate what's new and what the experience is like on an Xbox 360. <br /><br />

<div align="left">Viewsonic may still be best known as a monitor company, but it looks to be doing its best to change that with its latest batch of products, which run the gamut from handhelds to media PCs. The bulk of the new offerings are in the small form factor PC category, and include the Atom-based VOT 120 / 121 and 130 / 132 nettops (pictured above), as well as the more beefed-up Core 2 Duo-based VOT 530 / 550 media PC (complete with Blu-ray drive and remote control). Launched alongside those are Viewsonic's fairly standard VNB 100 / 101 netbooks, and the company's all new VPD 400 and 500 media players, which pack a 4.3-inch and 5-inch screen, and 8GB and 16GB of storage, respectively. Our <a href="http://www.engadget.com/tag/recession+antidote/">Recession Antidote</a> series has been firing on all cylinders for awhile now, but today we're breaking things up a bit with an extra special giveaway. In case you couldn't guess, we'll be transferring ownership of our very own custom-built HTPC -- which was featured yesterday in a <a href="http://www.engadget.com/2009/07/21/how-to-build-a-blu-ray-tv-tuner-equipped-htpc-for-under-1-00/">'</a>How to build an HTPC for under $1,000' guide -- and one lucky reader will be able to wrap their arms around a shiny new entertainment rig. We won't bother breaking down the specs (just check out <a href="http://www.engadget.com/2009/07/21/how-to-build-a-blu-ray-tv-tuner-equipped-htpc-for-under-1-00/">yesterday's piece</a> for that), but we <em>will</em> bother thanking the outfits who made this come together as well as point you to the fine print below for instructions on how to drop your name in the hat.<br /><br /><em>Huge thanks to <a href="http://www.nmediapc.com/htpc2000.htm">nMEDIAPC</a>, <a href="http://processorfinder.intel.com/details.aspx?sSpec=SLGT6">Intel</a>, <a href="http://www.asus.com/product.aspx?P_ID=qH6ZSEJ8EPY6HoNU">ASUS</a>, <a href="http://www.ocztechnology.com/">OCZ</a>, <a href="http://www.hitachigst.com/portal/site/en/menuitem.e6b513c73a0b7518e8284977eac4f0a0/">Hitachi</a>, <a href="http://www.lge.com/us/index.jsp">LG</a>, <a href="http://www.gigabyte.com.tw/Products/VGA/Products_Overview.aspx?ProductID=3059">Gigabyte</a>, <a href="http://www.radioshack.com/search/index.jsp?kwCatId=&amp;kw=auvio%20hdmi&amp;origkw=auvio%20hdmi&amp;sr=1">Auvio</a> and <a href="http://www.microsoft.com/windows/windows-vista/compare-editions/home-premium.aspx">Microsoft</a> <em>for providing the gear!</em></em><br /><br />The rules:<br />
<ul>
    <li><strong>Leave a comment below.</strong> Any comment will do, but if you want to share your proposal for "fixing" the world economy, that'd be sweet too.<br /></li>
    <li><strong>You may only enter this specific giveaway once.</strong> If you enter this giveaway more than once you'll be automatically disqualified, etc. (Yes, we have robots that thoroughly check to ensure fairness.)</li>
    <li><strong>If you enter more than once, only activate one comment.</strong> This is pretty self explanatory. Just be careful and you'll be fine.<strong><br /></strong></li>
    <li><strong>Contest is open to anyone in the 50 States, 18 or older! </strong>Sorry, we don't make this rule (we hate excluding anyone), so be mad at our lawyers and contest laws if you have to be mad.<br /></li>
    <li><strong>Winner will be chosen randomly.</strong> One (1) winner will receive one (1) <a href="http://www.engadget.com/2009/07/21/how-to-build-a-blu-ray-tv-tuner-equipped-htpc-for-under-1-00/">custom-built HTPC</a>. Approximate value is $1,000. That special <em>Engadget Touch</em> is provided gratis.<br /></li>
    <li>If you are chosen, you will be notified by email. Winners must respond within three days of the end of the contest. If you do not respond within that period, another winner will be chosen. </li>
    <li><strong>Entries can be submitted until Wednesday, July 22nd, at 11:59PM ET. </strong>Good luck!</li>

Pundits <a href="http://www.engadgethd.com/2007/03/30/do-people-even-want-pcs-in-their-living-room/">may argue</a> that the modern day <a href="http://www.engadgethd.com/tag/HTPC/">HTPC</a> has no place in the modern day living room, but we disagree. In fact, with the economy still struggling to regain its swagger, folks are staying in and finding entertainment at home more than ever. It's that truth that spurred us to start this here project: building a fully capable, Blu-ray and TV tuner-equipped HTPC for less than a grand. And lo and behold, we made it happen. If you're interested in seeing exactly how we pieced together a mighty fine entertainment box for less than the starting price of most pre-configured systems, hop on past the break with your notepad open.<p><a href="http://www.engadget.com/2009/07/21/how-to-build-a-blu-ray-tv-tuner-equipped-htpc-for-under-1-00/" rel="bookmark">Continue reading <em>How-to: Build a Blu-ray / TV tuner-equipped HTPC for under $1,000</em></a></p><p>Filed under: <a href="http://www.engadget.com/category/homeentertainment/" rel="tag">Home Entertainment</a>, <a href="http://www.engadget.com/category/mediapcs/" rel="tag">Media PCs</a></p><p style="padding:5px;background:#ddd;border:1px solid #ccc;clear:both;"><a href="http://www.engadget.com/2009/07/21/how-to-build-a-blu-ray-tv-tuner-equipped-htpc-for-under-1-00/">How-to: Build a Blu-ray / TV tuner-equipped HTPC for under $1,000</a> originally appeared on <a href="http://www.engadget.com">Engadget</a> on Tue, 21 Jul 2009 12:50:00 EST. Face it, we're not normal. Most consumers don't want to convert their home PCs into media centers. That doesn't stop them from wanting a single device serving as both their TV and PC, however. That's where the 22- and 32-inch Bristol ViewSurfer PC/TVs carve out their niche. Each set features a FreeView tuner and an integrated, netbook-like, Atom-based Windows XP computer with 160GB of storage, 1GB of memory, 4x USB, and Ethernet. The PC lacks integrated WiFi, oddly enough, and the TV seems to function in complete isolation from the computer processing -- so no integrated DVR, for example. The &pound;500 (about $814) 22-inch model does feature a 1680 x 1050 pixel resolution, well above the 1024 x 600 display found in most netbooks. Not that you'll be pushing Flash-based video from YouTube or BBC's iPlayer full-screen as these ViewSurfers are undoubtedly saddled with Intel's integrated <a href="http://www.engadget.com/tag/945gse">945GSE</a> netbook graphics. Bristol remains mum about the specs on the 32 incher. Available in October if you're still game.<p>Filed under: <a href="http://www.engadget.com/category/desktops/" rel="tag">Desktops</a>, <a href="http://www.engadget.com/category/homeentertainment/" rel="tag">Home Entertainment</a>, <a href="http://www.engadget.com/category/mediapcs/" rel="tag">Media PCs</a></p><p style="padding:5px;background:#ddd;border:1px solid #ccc;clear:both;"><a href="http://www.engadget.com/2009/07/06/bristols-vewsurfer-tvs-let-you-use-xp-from-10-feet-away/">Bristol's ViewSurfer TVs let you use XP from 10 feet away</a> originally appeared on <a href="http://www.engadget.com">Engadget</a> on Mon, 06 Jul 2009 03:58:00 EST. Just as <a href="http://www.engadgethd.com/2009/06/06/windows-version-of-boxee-open-to-all-june-23rd/">promised</a>, the Windows alpha of <a href="http://www.engadgethd.com/tag/boxee">Boxee</a> media center software is now open to all, but that's far from the only big announcement made, so hang tight for a second. <a href="http://www.engadgethd.com/tag/mlb.tv">MLB.tv</a> has been added as a partner, allowing subscribers to catch games live and even in HD within the Boxee interface, as well as other new and upcoming integration with Digg, Tumblr and Current. Speaking of the interface, there's a new look (pictured above) to separate internet and locally-hosted content more clearly, and among the more granular tweaks Jaunty Jackalope support is official and Ubuntu users can enjoy 1080p playback via NVIDIA hardware acceleration. Check the blog for all the details including one more that probably only we can appreciate, it's now officially "Boxee" with a capital B, so the grammar police can set their weapons back to stun.<p>Filed under: <a href="http://www.engadget.com/category/hdtv/" rel="tag">HDTV</a>, <a href="http://www.engadget.com/category/homeentertainment/" rel="tag">Home Entertainment</a>, <a href="http://www.engadget.com/category/mediapcs/" rel="tag">Media PCs</a></p><p style="padding:5px;background:#ddd;border:1px solid #ccc;clear:both;"><a href="http://www.engadget.com/2009/06/24/boxee-updates-windows-alpha-gone-public-mlb-tv-hd-streams-and/">Boxee updates: Windows alpha gone public, MLB.tv HD streams and more</a> originally appeared on <a href="http://www.engadget.com">Engadget</a> on Wed, 24 Jun 2009 12:42:00 EST. But, let's just say you wanted to have that same experience on your <em>current</em> set. The answer? Silicon Mountain's latest wares: two new media streamer models and five Allio Link HTPCs. The entry-level $299 Allio Link ADTI-194500 gets powered by an Intel Atom N330 CPU and features 1GB of DDR2 RAM, 4GB of flash storage, GMA950 graphics, four USB 2.0 sockets, VGA / S-Video ports, Gigabit Ethernet and Ubuntu 9.04 running the show. If you're interested in an integrated DVD player, you can snag an upgraded model for $399. If those just aren't potent enough for your needs, you can snag one of five Allio Link Media PCs, which range from $659 to $1,199 and feature Windows Vista, 2GB of RAM, the same Atom N330 CPU, a built-in TV tuner and a 250GB HDD. Each of the units are available to order right now, with most shipping out within a week.<p>Filed under: <a href="http://www.engadget.com/category/displays/" rel="tag">Displays</a>, <a href="http://www.engadget.com/category/homeentertainment/" rel="tag">Home Entertainment</a>, <a href="http://www.engadget.com/category/mediapcs/" rel="tag">Media PCs</a></p><p style="padding:5px;background:#ddd;border:1px solid #ccc;clear:both;"><a href="http://www.engadget.com/2009/06/24/silicon-mountain-debuts-allio-link-streamers-and-htpcs/">Silicon Mountain debuts Allio Link streamers and HTPCs</a> originally appeared on <a href="http://www.engadget.com">Engadget</a> on Wed, 24 Jun 2009 03:12:00 EST. So, here's an interesting one. Intel has yet to officially launch the <a href="http://www.engadget.com/2009/05/27/new-intel-core-i7-cpus-show-up-unannounced/">two newest members</a> of its <a href="http://www.engadget.com/tag/Corei7/">Core i7</a> crew, but that little factoid isn't stopping <a href="http://www.engadget.com/tag/BFGTechnologies/">BFG Technologies</a> from doing the honors. Today, the company has introduced its freshest gaming rig, the Phobos, complete with Core i7 950 (Phobos Advanced) and Core i7 975 (Phobos Elite) CPU options. Furthermore, BFG is claiming that these new machines are the first ever to offer one-touch CPU and GPU overclocking, as all that can be handled on the front-mounted touch panel on the tower itself. Heck, there's even an integrated iPhone / iPod dock on the top of this bad boy. The Phobos rigs are yours to order right now starting at $5000 (Advanced) / $8000 (Elite), and the full release is after the break.<br /><div class="postgallery"><p><strong>Gallery: <a href="http://www.engadget.com/photos/bfg-inadvertently-outs-new-intel-core-i7-950-975-cpus-in-phobos-gaming-pc/">BFG inadvertently outs new Intel Core i7 950 / 975 CPUs in Phobos gaming PC</a></strong></p><a href="http://www.engadget.com/photos/bfg-inadvertently-outs-new-intel-core-i7-950-975-cpus-in-phobos-gaming-pc/#2048438"><img src="http://www.blogcdn.com/www.engadget.com/media/2009/06/bfg-phobos-gaming-pc-3_thumbnail.jpg" alt="" title="" /></a><a href="http://www.engadget.com/photos/bfg-inadvertently-outs-new-intel-core-i7-950-975-cpus-in-phobos-gaming-pc/#2048439"><img src="http://www.blogcdn.com/www.engadget.com/media/2009/06/bfg-phobos-gaming-pc-1_thumbnail.jpg" alt="" title="" /></a><a href="http://www.engadget.com/photos/bfg-inadvertently-outs-new-intel-core-i7-950-975-cpus-in-phobos-gaming-pc/#2048440"><img src="http://www.blogcdn.com/www.engadget.com/media/2009/06/bfg-phobos-gaming-pc-2_thumbnail.jpg" alt="" title="" /></a></div><p><a href="http://www.engadget.com/2009/06/01/bfg-inadvertently-outs-new-intel-core-i7-950-975-cpus-in-phobo/" rel="bookmark">Continue reading <em>BFG inadvertently outs new Intel Core i7 950 / 975 CPUs in Phobos gaming PC</em></a></p><p>Filed under: <a href="http://www.engadget.com/category/desktops/" rel="tag">Desktops</a>, <a href="http://www.engadget.com/category/mediapcs/" rel="tag">Media PCs</a></p><p style="padding:5px;background:#ddd;border:1px solid #ccc;clear:both;"><a href="http://www.engadget.com/2009/06/01/bfg-inadvertently-outs-new-intel-core-i7-950-975-cpus-in-phobo/">BFG inadvertently outs new Intel Core i7 950 / 975 CPUs in Phobos gaming PC</a> originally appeared on <a href="http://www.engadget.com">Engadget</a> on Mon, 01 Jun 2009 17:25:00 EST. Apparently devoting developers to something other than the great boxee <a href="http://www.engadgethd.com/2009/04/01/hulu-begins-encrypting-html-content-to-thwart-non-browser-apps/">arms race of 2009</a>, <a href="http://www.engadgethd.com/tag/hulu">Hulu</a> today took the wraps off of its Hulu Labs project, with several "experimental projects" giving a different spin to the TV show &amp; movie-streaming site. None of them are bigger than the Hulu Desktop app, a "lean back" interface (what, they heard ten-foot was <a href="http://www.engadgethd.com/2009/01/15/youtube-launches-10-foot-tv-experience-just-for-wii-and-ps3-user/">already taken</a>?) that unleashes Hulu's Flash video from the browser and also supports Mac &amp; Microsoft compatible six button remotes -- which makes their unwillingness/inability to continue boxee access or offer an official Media Center plugin even more confusing. Even those without HTPC's to try that out on, there is a Video Panel Designer offering customized embeddable widgets for website owners, a Recommendations section based on what you've already watched and a new Time-Based Browsing option to order programs by when they originally aired. Give them a try and let us know if this makes you forget about all the other ways that were already available (<a href="http://www.engadgethd.com/tag/boxee/">boxee</a>, <a href="http://www.engadgethd.com/2008/08/19/playon-media-server-brings-hulu-youtube-to-consoles-netflix-co/">PlayOn</a>, <a href="http://www.engadgethd.com/2009/02/11/hulu-on-its-way-to-windows-media-center-via-secondrun-tv/">Secondrun.tv</a>, <a href="http://www.engadgethd.com/2009/02/17/understudy-gives-mac-users-another-option-for-hulu-and-netflix-s/">Understudy</a>, ReQuest, <a href="http://www.engadgethd.com/2009/01/05/hulu-comes-to-xbmc/">XBMC</a> &amp; others) to get Hulu on your HDTV.<p>Filed under: <a href="http://www.engadget.com/category/homeentertainment/" rel="tag">Home Entertainment</a>, <a href="http://www.engadget.com/category/mediapcs/" rel="tag">Media PCs</a></p><p style="padding:5px;background:#ddd;border:1px solid #ccc;clear:both;"><a href="http://www.engadget.com/2009/05/28/hulu-desktop-app-puts-a-remote-control-friendly-face-on-for-macs/">Hulu Desktop app puts a remote control friendly face on for Macs &amp; PCs</a> originally appeared on <a href="http://www.engadget.com">Engadget</a> on Thu, 28 May 2009 21:57:00 EST. There are little HTPCs that hum <a href="http://www.engadget.com/2009/05/20/okoro-media-systemss-oms-ax100-amps-up-your-boring-htpc/">indiscreetly</a> amidst your home theater equipment, and then are there <a href="http://www.engadget.com/2009/01/06/bfg-technologies-phobos-gaming-pc-packs-core-i7-personal-conci/">behemoth</a> multimedia PCs that gobble down all the HD content you can shove at them while playing Crysis at 80fps and folding proteins in the background. <a href="http://www.engadget.com/tag/medion">Medion's</a> Akoya P7700 D looks to fall somewhere in between, featuring a strong Intel Core 2 Quad processor, a middling NVIDIA GeForce GT 230 with HDMI output, 1TB of storage to start, and a Blu-ray drive all in a case that has pleasant enough looks but won't be squeezing into many entertainment centers. The system hits Europe this week for a reasonable &euro;699 (about $970), and if you get lucky could be appearing in local Aldi circulars soon.<br /><br />[Via <a href="http://www.pocket-lint.com/news/news.phtml/24375/medion-akoya-p7700-d-desktop-pc.phtml">Pocket-lint</a>]<p>Filed under: <a href="http://www.engadget.com/category/desktops/" rel="tag">Desktops</a>, <a href="http://www.engadget.com/category/mediapcs/" rel="tag">Media PCs</a></p><p style="padding:5px;background:#ddd;border:1px solid #ccc;clear:both;"><a href="http://www.engadget.com/2009/05/28/medions-akoya-p7700-d-pc-will-do-your-multimedia-right-on-a-bud/">Medion's Akoya P7700 D PC will do your multimedia right on a budget</a> originally appeared on <a href="http://www.engadget.com">Engadget</a> on Thu, 28 May 2009 08:06:00 EST. We've got to hand it to 'em -- these guys aren't ashamed to be clearing out excess inventory, and honestly, we're still fond of the choice. Sure, <a href="http://www.engadgethd.com/category/hd-dvd/">HD DVD</a> may be <a href="http://www.engadgethd.com/2008/02/20/two-years-of-battle-between-hd-dvd-and-blu-ray-a-retrospective/">defunct</a>, but what's the harm in having the capability in your HTPC should an old friend pop over with a disc to watch? All that aside, Kinetic UK's trio of media center PCs are now shipping after <a href="http://www.engadgethd.com/2009/03/15/kinetic-hd-hub-htpc-gets-hip-with-core-i7-square-with-hd-dvd/">being introduced initially in March</a>, with Blu-ray / HD DVD compatibility, up to 6TB of storage space, Core 2 Duo / Core 2 Quad / Core i7 processor choices and a healthy array of CTO options elsewhere. As for prices, you're looking at starting tags of &pound;849.00 ($1,351) for the Mini HD:Hub, &pound;1449.00 ($2,306) for the Home HD:Hub and &pound;1569.00 ($2,497) for the flagship X HD:Hub.<p>Filed under: <a href="http://www.engadget.com/category/desktops/" rel="tag">Desktops</a>, <a href="http://www.engadget.com/category/mediapcs/" rel="tag">Media PCs</a></p><p style="padding:5px;background:#ddd;border:1px solid #ccc;clear:both;"><a href="http://www.engadget.com/2009/05/23/kinetics-hd-hub-htpc-now-shipping-hd-dvd-still-a-selectable-op/">Kinetic's HD:Hub HTPC now shipping, HD DVD still a selectable option</a> originally appeared on <a href="http://www.engadget.com">Engadget</a> on Sat, 23 May 2009 16:04:00 EST. We thought it'd be a good idea to get all touchy-feely with Dell's latest -- and its most family friendly -- all-in-one, the <a href="http://engadget.com/tag/studoone19">Studio One 19</a>, and while there are things we like, there are certainly a bunch of things that we wish they had done differently. Although it's already gotten some <a href="http://www.engadget.com/2009/05/19/dell-studio-one-19-reviewed-deemed-totally-sufficient-but-not-a/">lukewarm reviews</a>, we decided to put it through its paces and check it out for ourselves. Acer's entering the home server market, and its first entry's gonna be the easyStore AH340-UA230N with built-in Windows Home Server. It's juiced up with Intel Atom 230 processor and 2GB DDR2 RAM, and in addition to 1TB of storage, you've got three 3.5-inch hot swappable bays for a possible total of 7TB of storage. Throw in some DLNA 1.5 certification and a $400 price tag, and you've got yourself pretty decent competitor to HP's <a href="http://www.engadget.com/tag/MediaSmart/">MediaSmart</a> lineup. According to the presser, it should be available sometime around now-ish. Mosey on after the break for a look at the its innards.<p><a href="http://www.engadget.com/2009/05/21/acer-launches-easystore-home-server-1tb-expandable-storage-for/" rel="bookmark">Continue reading <em>Acer launches easyStore Home Server: 1TB expandable storage for $400</em></a></p><p>Filed under: <a href="http://www.engadget.com/category/mediapcs/" rel="tag">Media PCs</a>, <a href="http://www.engadget.com/category/storage/" rel="tag">Storage</a></p><p style="padding:5px;background:#ddd;border:1px solid #ccc;clear:both;"><a href="http://www.engadget.com/2009/05/21/acer-launches-easystore-home-server-1tb-expandable-storage-for/">Acer launches easyStore Home Server: 1TB expandable storage for $400</a> originally appeared on <a href="http://www.engadget.com">Engadget</a> on Thu, 21 May 2009 01:19:00 EST. Good news, Vista <a href="http://www.engadgethd.com/tag/mediacenter">Media Center</a> PC users will soon find a new option under the TV+Movies tile, as <a href="http://www.engadgethd.com/tag/Netflix">Netflix</a> Watch Instantly streaming access is added directly to the interface. The soul crushingly bad news? A post on The Green Button informs that this does not apply to <a href="http://www.engadgethd.com/tag/mediacenterextender">Media Center Extenders</a>, so cheapskates hoping to get around the Xbox 360's Gold Xbox Live subscription requirement are still going to need those <a href="http://www.engadgethd.com/2009/03/28/vmcplayit-pulls-playon-streams-into-media-center-and-media-cente/">plugins and workarounds</a>. This should go over much better than the <a href="http://www.engadgethd.com/2009/05/16/hands-on-with-microsofts-internet-tv-beta-2-still-unwatchable/">InternetTV beta 2</a>, but we're disappointed Microsoft's vision of TV on Your PC (as pointed out on its accompanying blogs, videos and assorted paraphernalia indicates) doesn't allow users to stretch their PC back to the TV at will. 'til that changes, check the gallery and after the break to see what awaits in Media Center once the update rolls out over the next 48 hours.<br /> <br /> <strong>Update</strong>: We checked with Microsoft, and confirmed that, at least for now, this streaming only includes the same content as the browser experience - so no HD. As far as Windows 7 and / or RC1 support? Jonesing for a new small form factor PC, are you? Not so keen on selecting a pre-fabricated unit? If you definitely fit the bill here, it's worth taking a gander at Zotac's recently released <a href="http://www.engadget.com/2009/04/21/zotac-jumping-in-ion-filled-waters-with-new-mini-itx-motherboard/">IONITX-A motherboard</a>. As the first of its breed to actually ship, a whole lot is riding on its solder points, and according to reviews found 'round the web, it's done a satisfactory job of living up to expectations. The test bench-abusin' kids over at <em>Hot Hardware</em> found that Zotac's board (and the included dual-core <a href="http://www.engadget.com/tag/Atom330/">Atom 330</a> CPU) performed "as expected," notching results that were "significantly better than any of the single core Atom 230-based systems." The unique DC power input was also lauded, and the silent nature made this a perfect candidate for a low-power, highly-capable carputer building block. All in all, this here mobo won't transform your life, but it's certainly a welcome extra in the all-too-stale DIY SFF market. For years now, those in power at the top of the CableCARD chain have told you that installing your own <a href="http://www.engadgethd.com/tag/CableCARD/">CableCARD</a> within your own HTPC was simply impossible. "<a href="http://www.engadgethd.com/2007/08/19/cablecard-equipped-dell-xps-410-desktops-now-available/">OEM</a> or bust," they said. It's a good thing they're wrong, isn't it? Over at Engadget HD, we've assembled a guide that explains how to get your existing media center PC to play nice with a <a href="http://www.engadgethd.com/2008/09/24/cannon-pc-starts-offering-internal-cablecard-tuners-for-sale-sep/">dedicated internal CableCARD tuner</a>, and the whole process just might be easier than you've ever imagined. Despite earlier <a href="http://www.engadget.com/2008/12/03/asus-eee-box-b204-b206-grows-an-hdmi-port-handles-high-def-ma/">claims to the contrary</a>, it looks like the new ASUS Eee Box, the B206, isn't quite the high-def powerhouse it was intended to be. According to <em>Register Hardware</em>'s review, the poor little thing had a real hard time playing even 720p video, only managing to render every frame when video was played back in DirectX Video Acceleration-capable players. That rules out many popular choices like QuickTime and VLC, and you can forget about 1080p entirely. Benchmark scores were low, as you'd expect given the standard 1.6GHz Atom N270 internals and 1GB of memory, leaving it best suited for casual web surfing and SD video playback -- and making it seem like not much of an upgrade over its <a href="http://www.engadget.com/tag/b202">predecessor</a>.<p>Filed under: <a href="http://www.engadget.com/category/desktops/" rel="tag">Desktops</a>, <a href="http://www.engadget.com/category/mediapcs/" rel="tag">Media PCs</a></p><p style="padding:5px;background:#ddd;border:1px solid #ccc;clear:both;"><a href="http://www.engadget.com/2009/05/07/asus-eee-box-206-reviewed-has-hdmi-but-cant-handle-high-def/">ASUS Eee Box 206 reviewed; has HDMI but can't handle high-def</a> originally appeared on <a href="http://www.engadget.com">Engadget</a> on Thu, 07 May 2009 08:46:00 EST. Yearning for more info on the HP MediaSmart <a href="http://www.engadget.com/tag/LX195/">LX195</a>? Here's some new concrete details for you to go along with the <a href="http://www.engadgethd.com/2009/04/13/hp-mediasmart-server-lx195-lights-up-in-leaked-images/">leaked images</a> from earlier this month. As previously suggested, it's got a a single 640GB internal SATA drive with 7200RPM, with the only option for expansion being via the four USB 2.0 ports in the back. We're also looking at a 1.6GHz Atom 230 processor, 1GB RAM, Windows Home Server software and support for Apple's Time Machine. Mum's the word on price, but if you're looking to start saving early, suggested retail price is just under four Benjamins.<br /><div class="postgallery"><p><strong>Gallery: <a href="http://www.engadget.com/photos/hp-mediasmart-lx195-boasts-640gb-hdd-1-6ghz-atom-400-price-tag/">HP MediaSmart LX195 boasts 640GB HDD, 1.6GHz Atom, $400 price tag</a></strong></p><a href="http://www.engadget.com/photos/hp-mediasmart-lx195-boasts-640gb-hdd-1-6ghz-atom-400-price-tag/#1526975"><img src="http://www.blogcdn.com/www.engadget.com/media/2009/04/hp-mediasmart-server-lx195_image-3_thumbnail.jpg" alt="" title="" /></a><a href="http://www.engadget.com/photos/hp-mediasmart-lx195-boasts-640gb-hdd-1-6ghz-atom-400-price-tag/#1526976"><img src="http://www.blogcdn.com/www.engadget.com/media/2009/04/rmenglx195a_thumbnail.jpg" alt="" title="" /></a><a href="http://www.engadget.com/photos/hp-mediasmart-lx195-boasts-640gb-hdd-1-6ghz-atom-400-price-tag/#1526977"><img src="http://www.blogcdn.com/www.engadget.com/media/2009/04/rmenglx195ab_thumbnail.jpg" alt="" title="" /></a></div><p>Filed under: <a href="http://www.engadget.com/category/mediapcs/" rel="tag">Media PCs</a>, <a href="http://www.engadget.com/category/storage/" rel="tag">Storage</a></p><p style="padding:5px;background:#ddd;border:1px solid #ccc;clear:both;"><a href="http://www.engadget.com/2009/04/29/hp-mediasmart-lx195-boasts-640gb-hdd-1-6ghz-atom-400-msrp/">HP MediaSmart LX195 boasts 640GB HDD, 1.6GHz Atom, $400 MSRP</a> originally appeared on <a href="http://www.engadget.com">Engadget</a> on Wed, 29 Apr 2009 20:39:00 EST.
