That we didn't spot a successor to <a href="http://www.engadget.com/all/mitsubishi,lcd">Mitsubishi's well-received line of Unisen LCD HDTVs</a> at CES 2011 should have been a signal, but now the company has made it official -- it is downsizing TV operations, closing some offices and leaving the LCD TV business entirely. As the only company still selling rear projection sets to consumers, a letter from senior VP Cayce Blanchard (included after the break) indicates the plan is to focus on selling DLP and <a href="http://www.engadget.com/all/laservue">Laservue</a> TVs in sizes above 73-inches where its flat panel competitors rarely reach. It will also keep selling projectors, display walls, printers and large public display screens up to 140-inches in size -- the <a href="http://hd.engadget.com/2008/04/16/full-specs-on-the-dallas-cowboys-worlds-largest-1080p-led-scor/">Cowboys Stadium</a> set was manufactured by sister company Mitsubishi Electric Power Product -- to other companies. Of course, as sad as everyone is to see the LCDs go, that just means there's even more time to focus on the <a href="http://www.engadget.com/2011/01/04/mitsubishis-big-year-at-ces-includes-92-inch-dlp-155-inch-ol/">92-inch DLP</a> that should hit shelves later this year. Time well spent, we'd say.<p><a href="http://www.engadget.com/2011/03/19/mistubishi-drops-lcd-hdtvs-to-focus-on-73-inch-and-above-sized-d/" rel="bookmark">Continue reading <em>Mitsubishi drops LCD HDTVs to focus on 73-inch and above sized displays</em></a></p><p style="padding:5px;background:#ddd;border:1px solid #ccc;clear:both;"><a href="http://www.engadget.com/2011/03/19/mistubishi-drops-lcd-hdtvs-to-focus-on-73-inch-and-above-sized-d/">Mitsubishi drops LCD HDTVs to focus on 73-inch and above sized displays</a> originally appeared on <a href="http://www.engadget.com">Engadget</a> on Sat, 19 Mar 2011 18:12:00 EST. Just in case you prefer a slimmer profile to your television viewing experience without all that 3D nonsense, Mitsubishi has also refreshed its <a href="http://hd.engadget.com/2009/04/08/mitsubishi-introduces-16-speaker-unisen-lcd-hdtv-line/">Unisen</a> LCD HDTVs. All the new models have StreamTV a.k.a. <a href="http://www.engadget.com/2010/01/07/vudu-apps-demoed-on-mitsubishis-2010-lcd/">VUDU Apps</a> built in, plus playback from USB devices, and edge LED backlighting. While the LT-55154 drops a few speakers (if you brought your own), the step-up 164 line is sized from 40- to 55-inches including 16 speakers built in, integrated WiFi, Bluetooth streaming and more while the top of the line 265 models add two more speakers to the mix and upgrade to 240 Hz motion, an iPhone remote control app plus a few other configuration tweaks for the high end. Check after the break for prices (between $1,699 &amp; $3,199) and more specs, though exact shipping information is still TBA.<br />

With <a href="http://www.engadgethd.com/category/mitsubishi/">Mitsubishi</a>'s LaserVue lines <a href="http://www.engadgethd.com/2009/03/24/mitsubishi-affirms-that-laservue-hdtv-production-is-back-on/">humming along</a> once more, it's time for the company to bust out a few more big announcements in the HDTV space. First up is the new Unisen line, comprised of the 151 Series (40-, 46- and 52-inches), the 153 Series (40-, 46- and 52-inches) and the high-end Diamond 259 Series (46- and 52-inches). Each set in the line comes with a built-in "5.1-channel" 16-speaker audio bar, much like the iSP LT-52149 that we <a href="http://www.engadgethd.com/2008/10/30/mitusbishi-isp-lt-52149-lcd-tv-with-integrated-soundbar-hands-on/">reviewed last fall</a>. Each model also incorporates a new UltraThin Frame design, Smooth 120Hz Film Motion technology, four HDMI 1.3a inputs and a USB media port. The top end crew also includes an iSP calibration microphone, Plush1080p 5G 18-bit digital video processing, a wired IR input and a few swank blue accents to really woo the ladies. With <a href="http://www.engadget.com/category/mitsubishi/">Mitsubishi</a>'s LaserVue lines <a href="http://www.engadget.com/2009/03/24/mitsubishi-affirms-that-laservue-hdtv-production-is-back-on/">humming along</a> once more, it's time for the company to bust out a few more big announcements in the HDTV space. First up is the new Unisen line, comprised of the 151 Series (40-, 46- and 52-inches), the 153 Series (40-, 46- and 52-inches) and the high-end Diamond 259 Series (46- and 52-inches). Each set in the line comes with a built-in "5.1-channel" 16-speaker audio bar, much like the iSP LT-52149 that we <a href="http://www.engadget.com/2008/10/30/mitusbishi-isp-lt-52149-lcd-tv-with-integrated-soundbar-hands-on/">reviewed last fall</a>. The whole family should ship to the United States next month and range from $1,799 to $3,299. Exact pricing is just after the break.<br /><div class="postgallery"><p><strong>Gallery: <a href="http://www.engadget.com/photos/mitsubishi-introduces-16-speaker-unisen-lcd-hdtv-line/">Mitsubishi introduces 16-speaker Unisen LCD HDTV line</a></strong></p><a href="http://www.engadget.com/photos/mitsubishi-introduces-16-speaker-unisen-lcd-hdtv-line/#1476763"><img src="http://www.blogcdn.com/www.engadgethd.com/media/2009/04/mini-249_solo2_rt_thumbnail.jpg" alt="" title="" /></a><a href="http://www.engadget.com/photos/mitsubishi-introduces-16-speaker-unisen-lcd-hdtv-line/#1476764"><img src="http://www.blogcdn.com/www.engadgethd.com/media/2009/04/mini-151_solo2_lft_thumbnail.jpg" alt="" title="" /></a><a href="http://www.engadget.com/photos/mitsubishi-introduces-16-speaker-unisen-lcd-hdtv-line/#1476765"><img src="http://www.blogcdn.com/www.engadgethd.com/media/2009/04/mini-151_solo2_rt_thumbnail.jpg" alt="" title="" /></a><a href="http://www.engadget.com/photos/mitsubishi-introduces-16-speaker-unisen-lcd-hdtv-line/#1476766"><img src="http://www.blogcdn.com/www.engadgethd.com/media/2009/04/mini-153_solo2_lft_thumbnail.jpg" alt="" title="" /></a><a href="http://www.engadget.com/photos/mitsubishi-introduces-16-speaker-unisen-lcd-hdtv-line/#1476767"><img src="http://www.blogcdn.com/www.engadgethd.com/media/2009/04/mini-153_solo2_rt_thumbnail.jpg" alt="" title="" /></a></div><p><a href="http://www.engadget.com/2009/04/08/mitsubishi-introduces-16-speaker-unisen-lcd-hdtv-line/" rel="bookmark">Continue reading <em>Mitsubishi introduces 16-speaker Unisen LCD HDTV line</em></a></p><p>Filed under: <a href="http://www.engadget.com/category/displays/" rel="tag">Displays</a>, <a href="http://www.engadget.com/category/mitsubishi/" rel="tag">Mitsubishi</a>, <a href="http://www.engadget.com/category/lcd/" rel="tag">LCD</a></p><p style="padding:5px;background:#ddd;border:1px solid #ccc;clear:both;"><a href="http://www.engadget.com/2009/04/08/mitsubishi-introduces-16-speaker-unisen-lcd-hdtv-line/">Mitsubishi introduces 16-speaker Unisen LCD HDTV line</a> originally appeared on <a href="http://www.engadget.com">Engadget</a> on Wed, 08 Apr 2009 09:00:00 EST.
