<div style="text-align: left;">Elgato's original <a href="http://www.engadget.com/2009/01/07/elgato-refreshes-its-eyetv-hybrid-tuner/">EyeTV Hybrid USB tuner</a> wasn't exactly oversized, but the company has nonetheless managed shrink things down a bit for the device's latest revision, and it's added some Windows 7 support for good measure. Most of the size reduction comes from ditching the analog connector found on the previous model (you'll still get an adapter), and you'll also now get a sturdier aluminum enclosure that stays in line with the company's Mac-only roots. Otherwise, you'll get the same support for over-the-air HD broadcasts as before, along with Elgato's EyeTV 3 software, and an included remote control -- all for the same $150 that the original model cost.</div>

Aimed at markets outside the US, the Express TV Stick makes good use of the storage by packing all the software necessary to run the hybrid DVB-T / analog tuner right on the device itself. Plug into a USB 2.0 port, install a driver, and away you go. If you can record right to the flash drive -- and we don't see why you shouldn't be able to -- we think TV junkies who need a DVR with truly grab-and-go portability might find room for this among their gear.<p>Filed under: <a href="http://www.engadget.com/category/media-pcs/" rel="tag">Media PCs</a>, <a href="http://www.engadget.com/category/recorders/" rel="tag">Recorders</a>, <a href="http://www.engadget.com/category/tuners/" rel="tag">Tuners</a>, <a href="http://www.engadget.com/category/ota/" rel="tag">OTA</a></p><p style="padding:5px;background:#ddd;border:1px solid #ccc;clear:both;"><a href="http://www.engadget.com/2009/04/27/asus-adds-4gb-of-storage-to-its-usb-express-tv-stick-tuner/">ASUS adds 4GB of storage to its USB Express TV Stick tuner</a> originally appeared on <a href="http://www.engadget.com">Engadget</a> on Mon, 27 Apr 2009 03:44:00 EST. Remember that brilliant <a href="http://www.engadgethd.com/2007/04/06/elgatos-turbo-264-gets-date-and-price/">Turbo.264 video conversion dongle</a> that shipped like, two whole years ago? Yeah, it's successor has just hit the streets, and it's as ready as ever for 1080p content. The predictably titled <a href="http://www.engadgethd.com/tag/Elgato/">Elgato</a> Turbo.264 HD plugs directly into one's Mac and converts files up to 1080p (from camcorders, digital cameras, etc.) into files that are perfectly formatted for iPods, PSPs or other media players. The bundled software also lets users preview and trim video clips before converting, and it saves folks the time and hassle of importing into iMovie, learning commands, rendering and exporting. Reportedly, a video that would take an hour to convert to an iPod-friendly file takes just 15 minutes with this here dongle, and if that's worth $149.95 to you, you're one click away from brightening your own day.<br /><br />[Via <a href="http://www.electricpig.co.uk/2009/03/19/elgato-turbo264-hd-launches/">Electricpig</a>]<br /><div class="postgallery"><p><strong>Gallery: <a href="http://www.engadget.com/photos/elgato-ships-1080p-friendly-turbo-264-hd-video-conversion-dongle/">Elgato ships 1080p-friendly Turbo.264 HD video conversion dongle</a></strong></p><a href="http://www.engadget.com/photos/elgato-ships-1080p-friendly-turbo-264-hd-video-conversion-dongle/#1441247"><img src="http://www.blogcdn.com/www.engadgethd.com/media/2009/03/turbo.264-hd_6_thumbnail.jpg" alt="" title="" /></a><a href="http://www.engadget.com/photos/elgato-ships-1080p-friendly-turbo-264-hd-video-conversion-dongle/#1441248"><img src="http://www.blogcdn.com/www.engadgethd.com/media/2009/03/turbo.264-hd_1_thumbnail.jpg" alt="" title="" /></a><a href="http://www.engadget.com/photos/elgato-ships-1080p-friendly-turbo-264-hd-video-conversion-dongle/#1441249"><img src="http://www.blogcdn.com/www.engadgethd.com/media/2009/03/turbo.264-hd_2_thumbnail.jpg" alt="" title="" /></a><a href="http://www.engadget.com/photos/elgato-ships-1080p-friendly-turbo-264-hd-video-conversion-dongle/#1441250"><img src="http://www.blogcdn.com/www.engadgethd.com/media/2009/03/turbo.264-hd_3_thumbnail.jpg" alt="" title="" /></a><a href="http://www.engadget.com/photos/elgato-ships-1080p-friendly-turbo-264-hd-video-conversion-dongle/#1441251"><img src="http://www.blogcdn.com/www.engadgethd.com/media/2009/03/turbo.264-hd_4_thumbnail.jpg" alt="" title="" /></a></div><p>Filed under: <a href="http://www.engadget.com/category/peripherals/" rel="tag">Peripherals</a>, <a href="http://www.engadget.com/category/portablevideo/" rel="tag">Portable Video</a></p><p style="padding:5px;background:#ddd;border:1px solid #ccc;clear:both;"><a href="http://www.engadget.com/2009/03/19/elgato-ships-1080p-friendly-turbo-264-hd-video-conversion-dongle/">Elgato ships 1080p-friendly Turbo.264 HD video conversion dongle</a> originally appeared on <a href="http://www.engadget.com">Engadget</a> on Thu, 19 Mar 2009 18:11:00 EST. Reportedly, a video that would take an hour to convert to an iPod-friendly file takes just 15 minutes with this here dongle, and if that's worth $149.95 to you, you're one click away from brightening your own day.<br /><br />[Via <a href="http://www.electricpig.co.uk/2009/03/19/elgato-turbo264-hd-launches/">Electricpig</a>]<br /><div class="postgallery"><p><strong>Gallery: <a href="http://www.engadget.com/photos/elgato-ships-1080p-friendly-turbo-264-hd-video-conversion-dongle/">Elgato ships 1080p-friendly Turbo.264 HD video conversion dongle</a></strong></p><a href="http://www.engadget.com/photos/elgato-ships-1080p-friendly-turbo-264-hd-video-conversion-dongle/#1441247"><img src="http://www.blogcdn.com/www.engadgethd.com/media/2009/03/turbo.264-hd_6_thumbnail.jpg" alt="" title="" /></a><a href="http://www.engadget.com/photos/elgato-ships-1080p-friendly-turbo-264-hd-video-conversion-dongle/#1441248"><img src="http://www.blogcdn.com/www.engadgethd.com/media/2009/03/turbo.264-hd_1_thumbnail.jpg" alt="" title="" /></a><a href="http://www.engadget.com/photos/elgato-ships-1080p-friendly-turbo-264-hd-video-conversion-dongle/#1441249"><img src="http://www.blogcdn.com/www.engadgethd.com/media/2009/03/turbo.264-hd_2_thumbnail.jpg" alt="" title="" /></a><a href="http://www.engadget.com/photos/elgato-ships-1080p-friendly-turbo-264-hd-video-conversion-dongle/#1441250"><img src="http://www.blogcdn.com/www.engadgethd.com/media/2009/03/turbo.264-hd_3_thumbnail.jpg" alt="" title="" /></a><a href="http://www.engadget.com/photos/elgato-ships-1080p-friendly-turbo-264-hd-video-conversion-dongle/#1441251"><img src="http://www.blogcdn.com/www.engadgethd.com/media/2009/03/turbo.264-hd_4_thumbnail.jpg" alt="" title="" /></a></div><p>Filed under: <a href="http://www.engadget.com/category/other-hardware/" rel="tag">Other hardware</a>, <a href="http://www.engadget.com/category/others/" rel="tag">Others</a>, <a href="http://www.engadget.com/category/ota/" rel="tag">OTA</a></p><p style="padding:5px;background:#ddd;border:1px solid #ccc;clear:both;"><a href="http://www.engadget.com/2009/03/19/elgato-ships-1080p-friendly-turbo-264-hd-video-conversion-dongle/">Elgato ships 1080p-friendly Turbo.264 HD video conversion dongle</a> originally appeared on <a href="http://www.engadget.com">Engadget</a> on Thu, 19 Mar 2009 18:11:00 EST. The tuner can easily pick up OTA HD channels as well as ClearQAM signals, and it even plays nice with both Mac and PC platforms. Furthermore, it makes compressing recordings for playback on an iPod or other PMP remarkably simple, but you'll have to shell out $69.99 in order to bring it all home.<p>Filed under: <a href="http://www.engadget.com/category/tuners/" rel="tag">Tuners</a>, <a href="http://www.engadget.com/category/others/" rel="tag">Others</a></p><p style="padding:5px;background:#ddd;border:1px solid #ccc;clear:both;"><a href="http://www.engadget.com/2009/03/17/avermedia-ships-70-avertvhd-volar-max-usb-tuner/">AVerMedia ships $70 AVerTVHD Volar MAX USB tuner</a> originally appeared on <a href="http://www.engadget.com">Engadget</a> on Tue, 17 Mar 2009 08:01:00 EST. Unless you're picking up a <a href="http://www.engadget.com/2009/01/09/dell-launches-mini-10/">Mini 10</a> with an integrated TV tuner, you'll need one of these (or something similar) in order to pull down OTA signals on your Inspiron Mini. Dell has just announced a thumb-sized <a href="http://www.engadget.com/tag/usb+tuner/">USB digital TV tuner</a> (complete with a built-in telescoping and articulating antenna that retracts) catering to the Inspiron family which will start at just $50. Also of note, the company is intending to offer "regional-specific versions of the Digital TV Tuner, designed to receive local broadcast standards, including mobile digital television standards like ATSC in the US, DVB-T in Western Europe, ISDB-T 1-seg (a.k.a. One Seg) in Japan, and the emerging CMMB standard in China." It'll play nice with the Dell-customized version of Ubuntu Linux (8.04), Windows XP and Windows Vista Basic, and it's expected to ship later this quarter in Europe, followed by North America and Asia-Pacific / China soon after.<p>Filed under: <a href="http://www.engadget.com/category/tuners/" rel="tag">Tuners</a>, <a href="http://www.engadget.com/category/others/" rel="tag">Others</a></p><p style="padding:5px;background:#ddd;border:1px solid #ccc;clear:both;"><a href="http://www.engadget.com/2009/01/09/dell-usb-digital-tv-tuner-announced-for-inspiron-mini-family/">Dell USB Digital TV Tuner announced for Inspiron Mini family</a> originally appeared on <a href="http://www.engadget.com">Engadget</a> on Fri, 09 Jan 2009 10:51:00 EST. It's been almost a year since <a href="http://www.engadget.com/tag/elgato">Elgato</a> refreshed its <a href="http://www.engadget.com/2008/01/17/elgato-updates-eyetv-hybrid-250-plus-tv-tuners-clear-qam-now/">EyeTV Hybrid</a> tuner, and while the addition of better reception and a FM radio tuner aren't earth-shattering, it's awfully hard to complain about how much the company has crammed into the Cear-QAM 1080i-tuning USB stick aimed at Mac users. The $150 dongle includes a year-long subscription to TV Guide for your scheduling convenience, but you'll have to fork over $20 per year for the service after that. There will be a new 3.1 version of EyeTV available later this month, but you can pick up the fresh hardware right now.<p>Filed under: <a href="http://www.engadget.com/category/hdtv/" rel="tag">HDTV</a>, <a href="http://www.engadget.com/category/homeentertainment/" rel="tag">Home Entertainment</a>, <a href="http://www.engadget.com/category/mediapcs/" rel="tag">Media PCs</a></p><p style="padding:5px;background:#ddd;border:1px solid #ccc;clear:both;"><a href="http://www.engadget.com/2009/01/07/elgato-refreshes-its-eyetv-hybrid-tuner/">Elgato refreshes its EyeTV Hybrid tuner </a> originally appeared on <a href="http://www.engadget.com">Engadget</a> on Wed, 07 Jan 2009 05:15:00 EST. Tired of those vanilla <a href="http://www.engadget.com/tag/usb+tuner/">USB tuners</a>, are you? Not really getting the performance you deserve when tuning into your HD locals? Then have a glance at K-world's USB Lamborghini UB385-T -- but look quick, else you might miss it. Terrible jokes aside, this wicked quick DVB-T tuner is unnecessarily flashy, but early reports suggest that it works remarkably well. Setup was lightning fast, reception was world-class and the design was really something special. And heck, with a price tag like this (S$140; around 93 greenbacks), you won't even have to <em>pony up</em> too much for the branding.<p>Filed under: <a href="http://www.engadget.com/category/tuners/" rel="tag">Tuners</a></p><p style="padding:5px;background:#ddd;border:1px solid #ccc;clear:both;"><a href="http://www.engadget.com/2008/12/11/k-worlds-usb-lamborghini-ub385-t-tunes-dvb-t-really-really-qui/">KWorld's USB Lamborghini UB385-T tunes DVB-T really, really quickly</a> originally appeared on <a href="http://www.engadget.com">Engadget</a> on Thu, 11 Dec 2008 01:52:00 EST. Developed in conjunction with DiBom, the device -- hailed as the planet's first USB key-sized DTT HD decoder -- enables the reception of French pay-TV programs (SD and HD), 18 free DTT channels and even the premium channel CANAL+ HD. The key is equipped with two small antennas and can provide viewing enjoyment to any USB-equipped PC. Microsoft invited us, with a few others, to tour the eHome team office and lab's and of all the great things we saw -- pictured in the gallery -- the one that got us the most excited was to see the rumored DirecTV <a href="http://www.engadget.com/tag/hdpc-20">HDPC-20</a> USB tuner in action. Our dreams were a little dashed though, as we were reminded on numerous occasions that although Microsoft tests lots of hardware, not everything makes it to market. So in other words, the presence of any hardware in the lab is no way an announcement of future products. But this here tuner wasn't the only thing we saw, as there were even a few indications that DISH Network was being tested as well, and while we did see <a href="http://www.engadget.com/photos/tour-of-microsofts-ehome-labs/1169916/">DISH multi-switches</a> and a <a href="http://www.engadget.com/photos/tour-of-microsofts-ehome-labs/1169900/">DISH TV screen</a> up on a Media Center PC, we didn't see any specific DISH equipment connected to Media Center. This could mean the tuners are internal or maybe the tuners were just cleared out before we came through. More pictures of the HDPC-20 in action after the jump.<br />

Announced today, the <a href="http://www.engadget.com/2008/09/11/pinnacle-trots-out-pctv-hd-mini-stick-usb-tuners/">Pinnacle PCTV line</a> will soon be property of Hauppauge Digital, not Avid Technology. After laying off 410 employees and divesting its Softimage 3-D game animation software business last Friday, the company has announced yet another major move in its restructuring efforts. According to Avid CEO Gary Greenfield, he's hoping to transform Avid's business into one that "focuses on software applications that not only meet consumer demand, but also complement our broader portfolio of video and audio solutions." Even he confessed that "PCTV [was] a compelling standalone hardware product and a better fit for <a href="http://www.engadget.com/tag/Hauppauge/">Hauppauge</a>, a recognized leader in the TV-viewing hardware market." While financial terms weren't disclosed, the deal is slated to close before the end of 2008, and the happy new owner has already announced its intentions to continue supporting and developing both the hardware and software components of the PCTV line.<p>Filed under: <a href="http://www.engadget.com/category/industry/" rel="tag">Industry</a>, <a href="http://www.engadget.com/category/tuners/" rel="tag">Tuners</a>, <a href="http://www.engadget.com/category/others/" rel="tag">Others</a></p><p style="padding:5px;background:#ddd;border:1px solid #ccc;clear:both;"><a href="http://www.engadget.com/2008/10/27/avid-sells-pctv-product-line-to-hauppauge-digital/">Avid sells PCTV product line to Hauppauge Digital</a> originally appeared on <a href="http://www.engadget.com">Engadget</a> on Mon, 27 Oct 2008 14:35:00 EST. First off, Pinnacle's latest PCTV HD Pro Stick <a href="http://www.engadget.com/2008/04/04/pinnacle-unveils-clear-qam-capable-pctv-hd-stick-pctv-hd-pro-s/">came out</a> months ago, and as a matter of fact, the original actually <a href="http://www.engadget.com/2006/09/21/pinnacle-announces-usb-pci-tv-tuners-and-video-editing-gear/">surfaced</a> <em>years</em> ago. However, it's latest ploy for press does make a valid point: USB TV tuners and / or HD DVRs are a must-have item for surviving the <a href="http://www.engadget.com/tag/Olympics/">Olympics</a>. Oh sure, you can do what most Americans will do and simply tune into the highlights, but this is your <a href="http://www.engadget.com/2008/07/30/it-takes-plenty-of-equipment-to-produce-the-olympics-in-hd/">one shot</a> in four years to catch planet Earth's greatest summer athletes doing their respective thangs in high-definition! Still, you've only got two eyes and one pair of ears, so now would be a very opportune time to pick up some form of recording device to make sure you don't miss a, er, too many moments.<p>Filed under: <a href="http://www.engadget.com/category/misc/" rel="tag">Misc</a>, <a href="http://www.engadget.com/category/tuners/" rel="tag">Tuners</a>, <a href="http://www.engadget.com/category/sports/" rel="tag">Sports</a>, <a href="http://www.engadget.com/category/primetime/" rel="tag">Primetime</a></p><p style="padding:5px;background:#ddd;border:1px solid #ccc;clear:both;"><a href="http://www.engadget.com/2008/08/04/pinnacle-points-out-the-obvious-dvr-is-an-olympics-must-have/">Pinnacle points out the obvious: DVR is an Olympics must-have</a> originally appeared on <a href="http://www.engadget.com">Engadget</a> on Mon, 04 Aug 2008 16:10:00 EST. There are HD junkies, and then there are <em>HD junkies</em>. You know, those folks who can't leave on a business trip without packing in a USB HD tuner to catch some OTA goodness once they arrive. Here's to you, latter guy / gal: <br /><br />"I travel quite frequently on business, and while some <a href="http://www.engadget.com/tag/hotel/">hotels</a> I end up in have HD programming, many still do not. I'm considering picking up an OTA TV tuner that I can just plug into my laptop's USB port, but there are just so many options. Any help out there on which performs the best and which comes with the nicest PVR software?" <br /><br />We're going to assume this fellow is in search of a TV tuner that works here in the US (ATSC), but feel free to chime in with DVB-T, etc. options as well. Folks traveling to <a href="http://www.engadget.com/2006/01/18/digital-television-part-ii-global-status/">DVB-T / Freeview land</a> (that would be across the pond for you Yankees) should certainly give thought to how they're going to receive their much needed dose of OTA programming while there. If you're still living without a USB tuner, have a gander at Elgato's latest. The EyeTV DTT Deluxe snaps right into any spare USB port (on a Mac, that is) and picks up DVB-T / Freeview signals within range. Bundled in, you'll find the recently released <a href="http://www.engadget.com/2008/05/12/elgatos-eyetv-3-0-2-update-brings-h-264-broadcast-support/">EyeTV 3</a> software, two types of aerial antennas and an EyeTV remote. Folks in Europe can snatch the unit right now for &euro;79.95 ($126), and while we're hoping for an ATSC version to surface shortly, there's nothing to signify that our dreams are close to coming true.<br /><br />[Via <a href="http://www.123macmini.com/news/story/988.html">123MacMini</a>]<p>Filed under: <a href="http://www.engadget.com/category/tuners/" rel="tag">Tuners</a>, <a href="http://www.engadget.com/category/others/" rel="tag">Others</a></p><p style="padding:5px;background:#ddd;border:1px solid #ccc;clear:both;"><a href="http://www.engadget.com/2008/07/13/elgatos-usb-eyetv-dtt-deluxe-tuner-handles-dvb-t-freeview/">Elgato's USB EyeTV DTT Deluxe tuner handles DVB-T / Freeview</a> originally appeared on <a href="http://www.engadget.com">Engadget</a> on Sun, 13 Jul 2008 11:45:00 EST. In China, it's estimated that many of the devices will be used to watch the upcoming <a href="http://www.engadget.com/tag/Olympics/">Olympics</a> in Beijing in glorious high-definition, while DVB-T users in Europe will have yet another choice for snagging HD on-the-run. The pair has seemingly convinced Lenovo, HP, ASUS, Sony, Samsung and Toshiba (among others) to offer up their machines with a DTTB USB dongle in the coming days, enabling Chinese citizens to watch HD on-the-go right out of the box. If you couldn't surmise, DTTB is <a href="http://www.engadgetmobile.com/2007/04/08/china-wants-its-4g-standard-adopted-globally/">yet another</a> Chinese broadcast standard, and while we wouldn't bet the farm on it, the nation's government is hoping to offer up multiple high-def programs via DTTB by 2010. Who would've guessed -- the Olympics <a href="http://www.engadget.com/2008/03/24/terrestrial-hdtv-programs-coming-to-eight-cities-in-china-before/">catapulting HD programming</a> in China?<p>Filed under: <a href="http://www.engadget.com/category/industry/" rel="tag">Industry</a>, <a href="http://www.engadget.com/category/tuners/" rel="tag">Tuners</a>, <a href="http://www.engadget.com/category/sports/" rel="tag">Sports</a></p><p style="padding:5px;background:#ddd;border:1px solid #ccc;clear:both;"><a href="http://www.engadget.com/2008/04/27/legend-silicon-intel-push-usb-dongles-for-laptop-hdtv-viewing-i/">Legend Silicon, Intel push USB dongles for laptop HDTV viewing in China</a> originally appeared on <a href="http://www.engadget.com">Engadget</a> on Sun, 27 Apr 2008 11:33:00 EST. Should you find the <a href="http://www.engadget.com/2008/02/22/pinnacle-cranks-out-pctv-nano-stick-usb-tuner/">PCTV Nano Stick</a> a bit too minuscule for your liking (or you just aren't down with DVB-T), Pinnacle's got two newcomers for you to peek. The refreshed versions of the <a href="http://www.engadget.com/2007/06/06/pinnacle-kicks-out-100-pctv-hd-stick-usb-tuner/">PCTV HD Stick</a> and <a href="http://www.engadget.com/2006/09/21/pinnacle-announces-usb-pci-tv-tuners-and-video-editing-gear/">PCTV HD Pro Stick</a> both include support for unencrypted digital cable (ClearQAM) channels and a "next-generation tuner / demodulator with more sensitive reception of both analog and digital TV signals." Both units come bundled with the outfit's TVCenter Pro software for turning your PC into a PVR, and the Pro model (shown after the jump) adds stereo sound for analog / digital TV, FM reception and the ability to capture video from STBs, camcorders, etc. with the included dongle. Good enough for you? Catch the pair early next week for $69.99 and $99.99, respectively.<p><a href="http://www.engadget.com/2008/04/04/pinnacle-unveils-clear-qam-capable-pctv-hd-stick-pctv-hd-pro-s/" rel="bookmark">Continue reading <em>Pinnacle unveils Clear QAM-capable PCTV HD Stick / PCTV HD Pro Stick USB tuners</em></a></p><p>Filed under: <a href="http://www.engadget.com/category/tuners/" rel="tag">Tuners</a>, <a href="http://www.engadget.com/category/others/" rel="tag">Others</a></p><p style="padding:5px;background:#ddd;border:1px solid #ccc;clear:both;"><a href="http://www.engadget.com/2008/04/04/pinnacle-unveils-clear-qam-capable-pctv-hd-stick-pctv-hd-pro-s/">Pinnacle unveils Clear QAM-capable PCTV HD Stick / PCTV HD Pro Stick USB tuners</a> originally appeared on <a href="http://www.engadget.com">Engadget</a> on Fri, 04 Apr 2008 14:00:00 EST. AVerMedia's already pacified you <a href="http://www.engadget.com/2008/02/27/avertv-bravo-hybrid-pci-e-tuner-handles-clear-qam/">desktop owners</a> this year, but folks looking to stuff a new hybrid TV tuner in their laptop bag can finally stop pouting. The AVerTV Hybrid Volar MAX, which originally debuted at CES, is finally shipping. As expected, this minuscule device enables XP / Vista-equipped rigs to receive OTA HDTV (Clear QAM support included) along with AM / FM radio signals and NTSC analog content. The bundled AVer MediaCenter software even includes H.264 compression capabilities and a 320 x 240 resolution choice for those exporting directly to an iPod. Ready to dive in? It's all yours for $79.99.<p>Filed under: <a href="http://www.engadget.com/category/tuners/" rel="tag">Tuners</a>, <a href="http://www.engadget.com/category/others/" rel="tag">Others</a></p><p style="padding:5px;background:#ddd;border:1px solid #ccc;clear:both;"><a href="http://www.engadget.com/2008/04/01/avermedia-ships-avertv-hybrid-volar-max-usb-hybrid-tuner/">AVerMedia ships AVerTV Hybrid Volar MAX USB hybrid tuner</a> originally appeared on <a href="http://www.engadget.com">Engadget</a> on Tue, 01 Apr 2008 03:36:00 EST. This one's been around the block a time or two, but for you Europeans out there trying to hunt down a new OTA TV tuner that won't bog down your knapsack when traveling, Pinnacle's latest looks to be just the thing. Apparently launching across the pond, the PCTV Nano Stick handles DVB-T signals and enables users to save material in MPEG1, MPEG2 or DivX format. Interestingly, we're only told of its compatibility with Windows Media Center, so we 'spose OS X users would be pushing their luck with this one. No concrete deets on pricing, either, but word on the street pegs it at &pound;39.99 ($78).<br /><br />[Via <a href="http://www.pcadvisor.co.uk/blogs/index.cfm?entryid=1663&amp;blogid=18">PC Advisor</a>]<p>Filed under: <a href="http://www.engadget.com/category/tuners/" rel="tag">Tuners</a>, <a href="http://www.engadget.com/category/others/" rel="tag">Others</a>, <a href="http://www.engadget.com/category/ota/" rel="tag">OTA</a></p><p style="padding:5px;background:#ddd;border:1px solid #ccc;clear:both;"><a href="http://www.engadget.com/2008/02/22/pinnacle-cranks-out-pctv-nano-stick-usb-tuner/">Pinnacle cranks out PCTV Nano Stick USB tuner</a> originally appeared on <a href="http://www.engadget.com">Engadget</a> on Fri, 22 Feb 2008 06:15:00 EST. The TubeStick hybrid is the firm's newly announced USB TV tuner, which is housed in a diminutive chassis that won't block nearby ports and offers up OTA reception of NTSC, ATSC and digital (QAM) signals. Furthermore, the unit comes wearing the whitest of white outfits and also touts an external antenna and a one-month trial of the TubeToGo software. It seems that Elgato was most proud of its totally <a href="http://www.engadgethd.com/2008/01/16/elgato-delivers-eyetv-3-new-ui-smart-guides-and-network-shari/">revamped EyeTV 3 software</a>, but we couldn't help but notice two rather substantial hardware updates that it also chose to announce (albeit quietly) at Macworld 2008. Starting today, the firm's <a href="http://www.engadget.com/2006/08/17/el-gatos-eyetv-hybrid-digital-analog-tuner-for-macs/">EyeTV Hybrid</a> USB tuner and its EyeTV 250 Plus TV receiver / video converter (shown after the break) are both available with built-in support for unencrypted digital cable (Clear-QAM) channels. 'Course, they'll both still pull in NTSC / ATSC signals, but the addition of Clear-QAM support is a real boon for OTA addicts. Pricing for the extra versatile devices remains unchanged at $149.95 and $199.95, respectively, but unfortunately, existing owners will not be able to receive the newfound functionally with a simple firmware update.<br /><br /><a href="http://www.elgato.com/elgato/na/mainmenu/products/hybrid/product1.en.html">Read</a> - Elgato EyeTV Hybrid<br /><a href="http://www.elgato.com/elgato/na/mainmenu/products/250plus/product1.en.html">Read</a> - Elgato EveTV 250 Plus<p><a href="http://www.engadget.com/2008/01/17/elgato-updates-eyetv-hybrid-250-plus-tv-tuners-clear-qam-now/" rel="bookmark">Continue reading <em>Elgato updates EyeTV Hybrid / 250 Plus TV tuners: Clear-QAM now welcome</em></a></p><p>Filed under: <a href="http://www.engadget.com/category/hdtv/" rel="tag">HDTV</a>, <a href="http://www.engadget.com/category/homeentertainment/" rel="tag">Home Entertainment</a></p><p style="padding:5px;background:#ddd;border:1px solid #ccc;clear:both;"><a href="http://www.engadget.com/2008/01/17/elgato-updates-eyetv-hybrid-250-plus-tv-tuners-clear-qam-now/">Elgato updates EyeTV Hybrid / 250 Plus TV tuners: Clear-QAM now welcome</a> originally appeared on <a href="http://www.engadget.com">Engadget</a> on Thu, 17 Jan 2008 03:59:00 EST. Been on the lookout for a USB TV tuner with NTSC, ATSC <em>and</em> Clear-QAM support? Look no further than Hauppauge, which has proudly introduced the WinTV-HVR-950Q to handle all of the aforementioned needs. Additionally, the stick comes bundled with a credit card-sized remote capable of controlling the action from any given sofa, and it obviously supports the firm's SoftPVR and SoftMCE software MPEG-2 encoders. We know you're eager to cram one in your laptop and hop on a jet to a land far, far away, so you'll be quite pleased to know that it ships this month for $99.<p>Filed under: <a href="http://www.engadget.com/category/hdtv/" rel="tag">HDTV</a>, <a href="http://www.engadget.com/category/portablevideo/" rel="tag">Portable Video</a></p><p style="padding:5px;background:#ddd;border:1px solid #ccc;clear:both;"><a href="http://www.engadget.com/2008/01/07/hauppauge-intros-wintv-hvr-950q-usb-tuner-with-clear-qam-support/">Hauppauge intros WinTV-HVR-950Q USB tuner with Clear-QAM support</a> originally appeared on <a href="http://www.engadget.com">Engadget</a> on Mon, 07 Jan 2008 14:52:00 EST. Regardless of whether you're scouting a <a href="http://www.engadget.com/search/?q=TV%20tuner">TV tuner</a> for your desktop or portable machine, <a href="http://www.engadget.com/tag/AMD/">AMD</a> has unveiled a duo of devices that will likely fit the bill. Up first is AMD's plug 'n play <a href="http://www.engadget.com/tag/ATI/">ATI</a> TV Wonder 600 USB, which should have no problem tuning OTA HD on any machine equipped with USB, and also comes bundled with an IR remote, AV input, and Catalyst Media Center software. For the desktop only crowd, the ATI <a href="http://www.engadget.com/search/?q=TV%20Wonder">TV Wonder</a> 650 Combo PCIe (pictured after the jump) sports ClearQAM support, hybrid analog / digital tuning, a 3D comb filter, FM tuner, and like its portable sibling, works just fine with Windows Vista. The Pinnacle <a href="http://www.engadget.com/2006/02/22/pinnacle-pctv-usb-stick-puts-digital-tv-on-your-screen/">PCTV USB Stick</a> that you may have grown quite fond of over the past year has finally decided to get with the times, as the newest iteration throws HD capability into the minuscule tuner while still ringing up a penny under a Benjamin. The <a href="http://www.engadget.com/search/?q=Pinnacle">Pinnacle</a> PCTV HD Stick steps it down a notch from its<a href="http://www.engadget.com/2006/09/21/pinnacle-announces-usb-pci-tv-tuners-and-video-editing-gear/"> Professional sibling</a>, but still allows users to "view live television on their PC with pause, rewind, and fast-forward timeshifting functionality." Pinnacle's latest USB 2.0 tuner is "about the size of a key," gets all the necessary juice right from the USB port, supports NTSC and ATSC broadcasts, and comes bundled with the firm's TVCenter Pro software. Best of all, this no frills portable TV tuner can get live programming on your laptop or desktop right now for a mere $99.99.<p>Filed under: <a href="http://www.engadget.com/category/tuners/" rel="tag">Tuners</a>, <a href="http://www.engadget.com/category/others/" rel="tag">Others</a>, <a href="http://www.engadget.com/category/ota/" rel="tag">OTA</a></p><p style="padding:5px;background:#ddd;border:1px solid #ccc;clear:both;"><a href="http://www.engadget.com/2007/06/06/pinnacle-kicks-out-100-pctv-hd-stick-usb-tuner/">Pinnacle kicks out $100 PCTV HD Stick USB tuner</a> originally appeared on <a href="http://www.engadget.com">Engadget</a> on Wed, 06 Jun 2007 02:53:00 EST. Since <a href="http://www.engadget.com/2006/11/28/greenhouse-kicks-out-1seg-tv-tuner-in-usb-fashion/">everyone else</a> is pumpin' out <a href="http://www.engadget.com/2006/02/22/pinnacle-pctv-usb-stick-puts-digital-tv-on-your-screen/">USB TV tuners</a> like they're going out of style, <a href="http://www.engadget.com/2006/11/13/rca-unveils-plans-for-travel-friendly-mpc4000-hd-tv-tuner/&gt;out of style&lt;/a&gt;, it's no surprise to see yet another company jumping on increasingly large bandwagon. &lt;a href=">Sima Products</a> -- those folks who brought us the <a href="http://www.engadget.com/2006/07/21/sima-products-hitch-usb-transfer-device-reviewed/">Hitch transfer device</a> -- is back again, and this time it's bringing the USB <a href="http://laptops.engadget.com/2006/01/18/digital-television-part-ii-global-status/">ATSC</a> tuning love with the DTU-100. Aside from sporting that oh-so-portable USB stick design, this rendition touts a dedicated antenna port as well as a video input dongle to record your latest camcorder <a href="http://www.engadget.com/2006/10/24/oregon-scientific-busts-out-head-mountable-atc-2000-webcam/">captures</a> without a separate piece of hardware. The dongle supports stereo audio and composite / S-Video, but it's still not clear whether this all comes together as a nice, neat package, nor how much these niceties will set you back.<p>Filed under: <a href="http://www.engadget.com/category/homeentertainment/" rel="tag">Home Entertainment</a>, <a href="http://www.engadget.com/category/portablevideo/" rel="tag">Portable Video</a></p><p style="padding:5px;background:#ddd;border:1px solid #ccc;clear:both;"><a href="http://www.engadget.com/2006/11/30/sima-products-returns-with-dtu-100-usb-atsc-tv-tuner/">Sima Products returns with DTU-100 USB ATSC TV tuner</a> originally appeared on <a href="http://www.engadget.com">Engadget</a> on Thu, 30 Nov 2006 00:24:00 EST. While we've seen plenty of TV tuning love for the <a href="http://www.engadget.com/2006/02/22/pinnacle-pctv-usb-stick-puts-digital-tv-on-your-screen/">UK</a> / <a href="http://www.engadget.com/2006/11/13/rca-unveils-plans-for-travel-friendly-mpc4000-hd-tv-tuner/">US</a> crowd, it's about time we saw a new rendition to pick up those delightful digital terrestrial broadcasts while cruising through Tokyo. Greenhouse has busted out a silicon-wrapped <a href="http://www.engadget.com/tag/1seg">1Seg</a> TV tuner for the <a href="http://www.engadget.com/tag/japan">Japanese</a> market, but upped the ante on the typical USB stick design. By offering 360-degree rotation, you shouldn't have any problems blocking up spare ports while tuning on your laptop, and it also includes a magnetic base / extension cord to place the antenna at the faraway sweet spot. Aside from pulling in <a href="http://robots.engadget.com/2006/01/18/digital-television-part-ii-global-status/">ISDB-T</a> signals, this device also touts an electronic program guide and USB 2.0 / 1.1 connectivity, but unfortunately encodes the content as it's recorded so it can only be played back on the PC in which it was brought in on. So if the inability to view your shows on any other device than the one you used to tune with (somehow) doesn't faze you, you can pick up the GH-1ST-U2K now for &yen;10,800 ($94).<br /><br />[Via <a href="http://www.akihabaranews.com/en/en/news-12866-1Seg%20TV%20tuner%20with%20EPG%20and%20128bits%20encryption.html">Akihabara News</a>]<p>Filed under: <a href="http://www.engadget.com/category/homeentertainment/" rel="tag">Home Entertainment</a>, <a href="http://www.engadget.com/category/portablevideo/" rel="tag">Portable Video</a></p><p style="padding:5px;background:#ddd;border:1px solid #ccc;clear:both;"><a href="http://www.engadget.com/2006/11/28/greenhouse-kicks-out-1seg-tv-tuner-in-usb-fashion/">Greenhouse kicks out 1Seg TV tuner in USB fashion</a> originally appeared on <a href="http://www.engadget.com">Engadget</a> on Tue, 28 Nov 2006 19:51:00 EST. We know how you <a href="http://www.engadget.com/search/?q=DMB">DMB</a> and <a href="http://www.engadget.com/search/?q=HDTV">HDTV</a> kids are always fighting over the spare USB ports, peddling your digital wares to confused and media-saturated Korean consumers. It's just not how things were meant to be. <a href="http://www.engadget.com/search/?q=DViCO">DViCO</a> wants us all to get along, and has busted out the FusionHDTV Master DMB/HDTV tuner to promote just such a harmony. We're a bit low on other deets, but based on US specs of DViCO's products, we're guessing the T-DMB and HDTV unit can record one channel while you watch the other, and should include some good MPEG encoding and decoding acceleration. As for price... can you really put a pricetag on sweet, sweet DTV harmony?<br /><br />[Via <a href="http://www.akihabaranews.com/en/news-12705-DMB%20and%20HDTV%20in%20a%20PC%3F.html">Akihabara</a>]<p>Filed under: <a href="http://www.engadget.com/category/hdtv/" rel="tag">HDTV</a>, <a href="http://www.engadget.com/category/homeentertainment/" rel="tag">Home Entertainment</a></p><p style="padding:5px;background:#ddd;border:1px solid #ccc;clear:both;"><a href="http://www.engadget.com/2006/10/30/fusionhdtv5-brings-dmb-and-hd-into-harmonious-usb-union/">FusionHDTV5 brings DMB and HD into harmonious USB union</a> originally appeared on <a href="http://www.engadget.com">Engadget</a> on Mon, 30 Oct 2006 11:27:00 EST.
