A good idea is worthless without adoption and we're glad to hear that <a href="http://www.engadget.com/tag/ZillionTV/">ZillionTV</a> has signed Paramount, which means that all six major studios are on board. Of course we still don't know how much we're actually going to like ZillionTV because although streaming content for free or ad-supported sounds like a new approach, who knows how it'll work. We do think we'd love the choice of either watching ads or paying if that is what's actually going to happen. According to HMM, at least in regards to Paramount, some content will be available for rent or purchase while other content will be ad-supported. If this is going to be the case for all the content, then we're sure the ZillionTV will look great in our attic sitting next to our <a href="http://www.engadget.com/tag/Moviebeam/">Moviebeam</a>.<p>Filed under: <a href="http://www.engadget.com/category/industry/" rel="tag">Industry</a>, <a href="http://www.engadget.com/category/media-streamers/" rel="tag">Media streamers</a>, <a href="http://www.engadget.com/category/internet/" rel="tag">Internet</a></p><p style="padding:5px;background:#ddd;border:1px solid #ccc;clear:both;"><a href="http://www.engadget.com/2009/11/10/zilliontv-signs-the-final-remaining-major-studio/">ZillionTV signs the final remaining major studio</a> originally appeared on <a href="http://www.engadget.com">Engadget</a> on Tue, 10 Nov 2009 13:29:00 EST. Hard to say what this means for the "ISP as distribution partner to ad-supported video service" strategy <a href="http://www.engadget.com/tag/zilliontv">ZillionTV</a> said it would pioneer <a href="http://www.engadget.com/2009/03/04/zilliontv-brings-ad-based-streaming-content-to-the-television/">when originally announced this spring</a>, but today's press release indicates a significant shift in direction. If you've already forgotten about the <a href="http://www.engadget.com/2009/04/28/zilliontvs-zbar-and-zremote-crash-down-in-fccs-database/">FCC-inspected</a> ZBar and ZRemote, this is the company planning to offer video on demand over the internet from its library of film and TV partners Hulu-style, but direct to your television. Now the company will consider selling hardware straight to subscribers of ISPs not down with the plan, aside from sliding directly into televisions and various connected hardware as Netflix, VUDU, Amazon and others already have. At the same time, the planned Q4 nationwide launch has morphed into a vague "second half of 2010" promise, from here we'd guess getting ISPs to sell hardware that competes with their own pay-TV services isn't as easy as ZillionTV anticipated.<p>Filed under: <a href="http://www.engadget.com/category/media-streamers/" rel="tag">Media streamers</a>, <a href="http://www.engadget.com/category/internet/" rel="tag">Internet</a></p><p style="padding:5px;background:#ddd;border:1px solid #ccc;clear:both;"><a href="http://www.engadget.com/2009/09/17/zilliontv-may-go-around-isps-take-ad-supported-streaming-video/">ZillionTV may go around ISPs, take ad-supported streaming video direct to consumers TVs</a> originally appeared on <a href="http://www.engadget.com">Engadget</a> on Thu, 17 Sep 2009 13:48:00 EST. While a nationwide launch of the ad-based <a href="http://www.engadget.com/2009/03/04/zilliontv-brings-ad-based-streaming-content-to-the-television/">ZillionTV streaming service</a> isn't expected until Q4 of this year, it's good to see that things are obviously on track. Just today, both the ZBar and ZRemote (shown after the break) -- two crucial hardware components to the system -- have splashed down in the FCC, giving those who just can't shove enough set-top-boxes under their television hope that one more is destined for US shelves. Granted, an FCC appearance doesn't guarantee an immediate market presence, but obviously the beta testing and collaboration with ISPs has been going well.<br /><br /><a href="https://fjallfoss.fcc.gov/oetcf/eas/reports/ViewExhibitReport.cfm?mode=Exhibits&amp;RequestTimeout=500&amp;calledFromFrame=N&amp;application_id=616752&amp;fcc_id=%27W4I-ZRFDC100-1%27">Read</a> - ZBar filing<br /><a href="https://fjallfoss.fcc.gov/oetcf/eas/reports/ViewExhibitReport.cfm?mode=Exhibits&amp;RequestTimeout=500&amp;calledFromFrame=N&amp;application_id=566928&amp;fcc_id=%27W4I-ZR102-1%27">Read</a> - ZRemote filing<p><a href="http://www.engadget.com/2009/04/28/zilliontvs-zbar-and-zremote-crash-down-in-fccs-database/" rel="bookmark">Continue reading <em>ZillionTV's ZBar and ZRemote crash down in FCC's database</em></a></p><p>Filed under: <a href="http://www.engadget.com/category/media-streamers/" rel="tag">Media streamers</a>, <a href="http://www.engadget.com/category/other-hardware/" rel="tag">Other hardware</a>, <a href="http://www.engadget.com/category/cable/" rel="tag">Cable</a>, <a href="http://www.engadget.com/category/internet/" rel="tag">Internet</a></p><p style="padding:5px;background:#ddd;border:1px solid #ccc;clear:both;"><a href="http://www.engadget.com/2009/04/28/zilliontvs-zbar-and-zremote-crash-down-in-fccs-database/">ZillionTV's ZBar and ZRemote crash down in FCC's database</a> originally appeared on <a href="http://www.engadget.com">Engadget</a> on Tue, 28 Apr 2009 16:33:00 EST. ZillionTV may not have a price, launch date or even confirmed areas of availability yet, but that hasn't stopped the outfit from racking up a deal to stream films from <a href="http://www.engadget.com/tag/weinstein/">The Weinstein Company</a> over its service whenever it launches. For those who've already forgotten, <a href="http://www.engadget.com/2009/03/04/zilliontv-brings-ad-based-streaming-content-to-the-television/">ZillionTV is the streaming to TV service</a> with designs on selling its hardware to customers via their ISPs, then streaming content free with ads as well as providing pay video on-demand. Even without flicks like <em>Zack and Miri Make a Porno</em>, <em>Vicky Cristina Barcelona</em> and <em>The Reader</em>, it already had a competent lineup of content partners, but now ZillionTV is looking even more like a legitimate challenger, if only we had a few more details to go on.<br /><div class="postgallery"><p><strong>Gallery: <a href="http://www.engadget.com/photos/zilliontv-brings-ad-based-streaming-content-to-the-television/">ZillionTV brings ad-based streaming content to the television</a></strong></p><a href="http://www.engadget.com/photos/zilliontv-brings-ad-based-streaming-content-to-the-television/#1401978"><img src="http://www.blogcdn.com/www.engadgethd.com/media/2009/03/zilliontv_1_thumbnail.jpg" alt="" title="" /></a><a href="http://www.engadget.com/photos/zilliontv-brings-ad-based-streaming-content-to-the-television/#1401979"><img src="http://www.blogcdn.com/www.engadgethd.com/media/2009/03/zilliontv_2_thumbnail.jpg" alt="" title="" /></a><a href="http://www.engadget.com/photos/zilliontv-brings-ad-based-streaming-content-to-the-television/#1401980"><img src="http://www.blogcdn.com/www.engadgethd.com/media/2009/03/zilliontv_3_thumbnail.jpg" alt="" title="" /></a><a href="http://www.engadget.com/photos/zilliontv-brings-ad-based-streaming-content-to-the-television/#1401981"><img src="http://www.blogcdn.com/www.engadgethd.com/media/2009/03/zilliontv_4_thumbnail.jpg" alt="" title="" /></a></div><p>Filed under: <a href="http://www.engadget.com/category/industry/" rel="tag">Industry</a>, <a href="http://www.engadget.com/category/media-streamers/" rel="tag">Media streamers</a>, <a href="http://www.engadget.com/category/set-top-boxes/" rel="tag">Set-top boxes</a>, <a href="http://www.engadget.com/category/internet/" rel="tag">Internet</a></p><p style="padding:5px;background:#ddd;border:1px solid #ccc;clear:both;"><a href="http://www.engadget.com/2009/03/30/zilliontv-adds-the-weinstein-company-films-to-its-streaming-libr/">ZillionTV adds The Weinstein Company films to its streaming library</a> originally appeared on <a href="http://www.engadget.com">Engadget</a> on Mon, 30 Mar 2009 08:56:00 EST. Just in case hooking up ZeeVee's <a href="http://www.engadgethd.com/tag/ZvBox/">ZvBox</a> and getting access to all available online media is too difficult, there's ZillionTV. This admittedly interesting startup is looking to pick up where <a href="http://www.engadgethd.com/tag/Hulu/">Hulu</a>, <a href="http://www.engadgethd.com/tag/ZeeVee/">ZeeVee</a>, <a href="http://www.engadgethd.com/tag/Netflix/">Netflix</a> Watch Instantly and all the rest have left off by bringing true on-demand content to one's television (read: not PC or mobile device) for almost nothing. For a one-time fee of "under $100," users will be given a ZBar and a ZRemote, both of which enable interaction with the VUI interface. Put as simply as possible, ZillionTV is hooking up with ISPs, content producers and advertisers in order to bring loads of popular material to the TV sans a subscription, though you will have to watch ads (which are optionally customizable to preferences) in order to play along. The company asserts that SD quality content can be achieved with a 3Mbps connection, while HD material will need upwards of 7Mbps. Currently, a beta program is ongoing, but a nationwide launch is expected by Q4. To be frank, this whole setup is rather complicated, so we'll point you past the break for a more detailed breakdown.<br /><div class="postgallery"><p><strong>Gallery: <a href="http://www.engadget.com/photos/zilliontv-brings-ad-based-streaming-content-to-the-television/">ZillionTV brings ad-based streaming content to the television</a></strong></p><a href="http://www.engadget.com/photos/zilliontv-brings-ad-based-streaming-content-to-the-television/#1401978"><img src="http://www.blogcdn.com/www.engadgethd.com/media/2009/03/zilliontv_1_thumbnail.jpg" alt="" title="" /></a><a href="http://www.engadget.com/photos/zilliontv-brings-ad-based-streaming-content-to-the-television/#1401979"><img src="http://www.blogcdn.com/www.engadgethd.com/media/2009/03/zilliontv_2_thumbnail.jpg" alt="" title="" /></a><a href="http://www.engadget.com/photos/zilliontv-brings-ad-based-streaming-content-to-the-television/#1401980"><img src="http://www.blogcdn.com/www.engadgethd.com/media/2009/03/zilliontv_3_thumbnail.jpg" alt="" title="" /></a><a href="http://www.engadget.com/photos/zilliontv-brings-ad-based-streaming-content-to-the-television/#1401981"><img src="http://www.blogcdn.com/www.engadgethd.com/media/2009/03/zilliontv_4_thumbnail.jpg" alt="" title="" /></a></div><p><a href="http://www.engadget.com/2009/03/04/zilliontv-brings-ad-based-streaming-content-to-the-television/" rel="bookmark">Continue reading <em>ZillionTV brings ad-based streaming content to the television</em></a></p><p>Filed under: <a href="http://www.engadget.com/category/hdtv/" rel="tag">HDTV</a>, <a href="http://www.engadget.com/category/homeentertainment/" rel="tag">Home Entertainment</a></p><p style="padding:5px;background:#ddd;border:1px solid #ccc;clear:both;"><a href="http://www.engadget.com/2009/03/04/zilliontv-brings-ad-based-streaming-content-to-the-television/">ZillionTV brings ad-based streaming content to the television</a> originally appeared on <a href="http://www.engadget.com">Engadget</a> on Wed, 04 Mar 2009 04:03:00 EST. Just in case hooking up ZeeVee's <a href="http://www.engadget.com/tag/ZvBox/">ZvBox</a> and getting access to all available online media is too difficult, there's ZillionTV. This admittedly interesting startup is looking to pick up where <a href="http://www.engadget.com/tag/Hulu/">Hulu</a>, <a href="http://www.engadget.com/tag/ZeeVee/">ZeeVee</a>, <a href="http://www.engadget.com/tag/Netflix/">Netflix</a> Watch Instantly and all the rest have left off by bringing true on-demand content to one's television (read: not PC or mobile device) for almost nothing.
